Got a takeaway. Pizza’s were lovely but mozzarella caroza to start was a rip off at £7 for 2 scraggy bits of cheese that were tiny. Food was nice though I just won’t have starters again.

The food was bland, the sauce was watery, the massive tubes of pasta looked clumsy and did not pair well with the sauces. It was a complete wash. Spent £40 to have three bites and have to throw it in the bin. Very disappointing indeed.

Visited for the first time recently. Food was perfect and the atmosphere was great. Service was a little slow between courses and slightly disjointed when asking for menus etc. We will definitely be back.

We’ve been to this place several times throughout lockdown and I have to say that every time, we have received fantastic food and great service under really challenging circumstances!! The Sunday Lunch is a fond favourite and the pizzas and burgers offer good value for money. Would really recommend this place for a family meal or an evening with friends!

Anniversary meal this evening. Eat out to help out night so we had fairly low expectations.... The food was outstanding! The service was amazing. The atmosphere was vibrant! Most importantly we felt very safe. It was clear that the restaurant implemented measures to ensure the establishment was COVID compliant! To offer such good quality food and 5* service under such difficult circumstances is amazing! We were also pleasantly surprised with the price. We had 3 delicious courses, 3 beers and a bottle of quality red wine all for £72 (we did receive £20 discount due to eat out to help out) but we would have been happy pay £100 + for the the food alone! We will definitely be going back there very soon

I visited here last night with a friend. First night out in a long time and we was not let down. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly with fantastic service. Great value for money. Can’t wait to go back.

Had a fabulous meal with great social distancing rules. Booked via website and waited to confirm were gathered all detailsMade to feel so welcome when arrived, rules were explained as was routes through restaurant. Very friendly staff and engaging. Orders were quick and efficient.I had the goats cheese starter, nicely balanced with honey and balsamic. Had seafood risotto, no scallops but that was made up with such a tasty risotto full of Salmon, prawns and mussels. Had a side of Parmesan and rocket. Had the berry cheesecake which was a real palette cleanser. Wish they had been air con on such a hot day but I can’t fault the service, ambience, drinks or the taste and quality of the food.Support the local food businesses, this in my opinion deserves support and to be busy

No been here for a few years so myself and the other half decided to give it a go. We arrived and for a Sunday lunch they wasn’t exactly busy. 3 tabes were taken to the far left of the restaurant. We was shown to our table having pre booked and we was put on the table feet away from the other 3 tables right next to the kitchen...... i mean don't these people understand they need to be social distancing!!!! It’s not as if they don't have room. The rest of the restaurant was empty yet 4 family’s are crammed into the corner feet apart right next to the kitchen! I don't like eating off others peoples knee at the best of times but especially not in a pandemic!!!! Then the starter came and if I’m being honest it was nice. We had a garlic bread and the dough was good. Then the mains came. The girlfriend had a pasta and myself a calzone. My food was ok at best, Edible but a bit bland and for a diavlo wasn’t exactly spicy. Then we get to the other half’s pasta. Her review of it was “I've had better at home” was bland but then as she’s eating she finds a present from the kitchen in the food. Not a hair but a used staple!!!! We informed the waitress who immediately took the pasta dish with staple and marched straight into the kitchen. She then emerged saying she doesn’t know how the staple got there and there isn’t anything around where it could have come from. From this response it sounded like she was accusing us of putting the staple in there.. as i have stated before we was situated right in the corner next to the kitchen. If you have ever been to 22 The Square you’ll know it is an open kitchen so from the tables In that area you can see straight in. I’m rather surprised she had no clue where the staple came from as in the kitchen high up on a shelf is stacks and stacks of files. I’m not exactly Sherlock Holmes but I’m pretty sure i could have a good guess where the mysterious staple came from. Anyway wouldn’t recommend. Had a very poor experience and wont be back again.

I booked a table via a whatts app group the restaurant uses. I initially had no response regarding my booking but had loads of messages about pizza offers & Sunday specials. So I messaged again to see if the had made my booking. This time they said they had. When I arrived at the restaurant they had no booking my name wasn’t on the list. But they did fit us in. The didn’t take any details from me, so did not adhere to track and trace. The restaurant lacks any real decor, it’s plain & not welcoming. & I was cold. We ordered a garlic pizza bread to start, it was ok, acceptable. But lacking in flavour. & acceptably priced. For my main I ordered a fish stew at £25. I thought wow for £25 it will be filled with lots of fish & big prawns, chunky veg etc. For £25 (this isn’t Leeds, it’s Halifax so for £25 this must be amazing) It wasn’t even a stew. It was a piece of pan fried Hake on a bed of prawns. (A few small prawns)Now I must say the flavour was beautiful, & the fish & prawns were cooked perfectly. But they weren’t even king prawns. Go to riccis in Halifax, Bellinis in brighouse, Bardalino’s in hipperholme, Mama Napoli in Hipperholme. You can get a trio of fish, or a piece of fish with king prawns & sides for between £17-£20. This was small prawns, no sides & £25!!!!!! I think £5 over priced. I showed the picture to a few people over the subsequent days, asked them how much most people said £18. My mum wanted and ice cream for pudding didn’t order it as it was £6. Who charges £6 for ice cream. You don’t make it, you scoop & serve. I had tiramisu, that was £6. Acceptable price. & it was nice. We were asked to leave after 1hour 15mins. So basically it you want to be rushed out & overcharge this is the place to come. If you want delicious food, at a fair price & an acceptable time to dine. Go to Riccis place, Cafe Bardalino, Bellinis Restaurant etc etc. Not here.

We ordered a take out this evening. Service over the phone was friendly & helpful. Collection easy. & most importantly the food was delicious. We had been craving a good quality restaurant meal. & that is exactly what we got. Good portion sizes too.

Tough times for all businesses at the moment and this is a small thing but had takeaway from here on Sunday and it was amazing! Pizza is stunning burgers are too and not what this place do usually but in the circumstances they have devised a great menu and offer delivery and or safe collection Well done to raj and his team of chefs and staff , hope we are back to the restaurant soon but honestly the takeaway is as good

For a restaurant in a slightly out of the way location, this place punches well above it's weight. Very good quality food, with ample portions and excellent service. Would be a good place for a party or special occasion, or just for couples. Can't wait for next trip up north. Thank you all. Sadly we were unimpressed by the whole experience last night. Firstly we booked a table for seven adults several weeks ago expressing a preference for a table in the downstairs dining room. When we arrived we were taken upstairs and led to our table in a room with no other guests all evening. Atmosphere was zero, no mood lighting or music. The table had not been dressed and there was no water or glasses on the table. The waitress finally took our drinks order and left menus after what seemed an age but probably about 20 mins. why we were not given menus when we were seated is strange. Again we were left for a long time, a head kept popping round a corner and dissappearing again before we could get their attention. We realised that although we had all been ready to order they would not come to take our order if any menus were open at the table?We eventually ordered and waited again my starter was deep fried mozzerella in a napoli sauce, the sauce was excactly as Heinz tomato soup and the mozzerella was in the form of two small pieces, at around £6.00 this was poor and tasteless. three of us ate this, the other starters were average.Main course for me was the calzone carne, presented in a pool of the same tatsteless Heinz tomato soup. My son ordered a fillet steak spicy pizza which was so spicy it could not be eaten, We all had a go but failed, it tasted like the meat had been marinated in thre hotest marinade ever and the jalepenos were also too hot, it also tasted like it had been put swamped with chilli oil.no one finished there meals,Overall the meal was over priced, average and service was very slow.No tip left for the first time in my life.

I went for a surprise party, there was a group of about 40 ish people. The friend who organised it was invited to sit down and plan a menu. She was told they can make anything we needed and cater for special diets, she chose to have a 3 course meal. She decided on a choice of 5 starters, 4 main dishes and 4 desserts. There were a few who needed to eat specific diets and they catered for all. Me, no salt. I was told they could make me anything but I decided to choose something similar to the menu that they would be able to do, no salt. (Just so I wasn’t too different to everyone else) I had, Soup, Sirloin of beef and fruit to finish. Everything was wonderful and a special mention to my main dish, I had sirloin, Yorkshire puddings, fresh vegetables, roast potato and gravy, all no salt at all but so very tasty. Some people were not keen on the Cheesecake, it was ‘White Chocolate & Praline cheesecake with a dark chocolate sauce’. They said it was too sweet but they also misread it and thought it was ‘White Chocolate Cheesecake with a dark chocolate sauce’ (No Praline). A lot of restaurants struggle with a big party, not this restaurant. The food was piping hot and fresh, no one waited long for their food at all. The member of staff that brought the Birthday lady in said to her that they apologised that at the moment it is quiet downstairs but she would be eating upstairs as the ground floor had a big party coming in later. When she came upstairs it was most definitely a surprise for her. The room itself is a really good size for our party and certainly would fit more, it has its own bar, it was clean and fresh and the staff were so helpful, plentiful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I have never been here before, do NOT confuse it with ‘22 Bar and Smokehouse’ as I did to start with. It is on the same road but two very different places. A huge thank you to all the staff, you made it a special day. P.S. I clicked below on the food choices of Mid range or fine dining. I would say it is actually both, depending on what setting you have.

We have visited this restaurant many times before. The food is excellent and the staff are very friendly.What made our visit today different was we had a Vegan with us. 22The sq are certainly trying and succeeding to accommodate people with differing tastes.They are hoping to increase the menu in the future we’ll done we will be back soon

This is a fab little place. The staff are so helpful. We had my 94 year old grandad who just wanted tomato soup. It wasn't on the menu that night but they made him some. I am vegan and my food was lovely they made me arrancini and a fab pizza. A few had the steak which was cooked perfectly and the pastas were so nice with good sized portions. Will definately come again xx

I had been to this restaurants sister place in Crosshills and had been so impressed I decided that after cooking Christmas lunch for the last 30 years, I would pay for my family to have a Christmas lunch out.

Food was very good waiters I found very abrupt and felt rushed through the meal. We sat just inside the doorway which we found very draughty each time the door opened.

Our first visit here, definitely wont be our last. The food is fantastic, great portions, one of the best steaks I've ever had, the garlic butter sauce is an absolute must, sweet potato fries, crispy and full of flavour. Garlic mushrooms starter was also excellent. I'm struggling to think what to choose on our next visit. The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, no rush. This is one restaurant I can’t over compliment. The food, the staff and the owners, who make you feel personally welcome and appreciated, at every visit, is still an understatement of the nights we spend there as a family. Flawless.

Visited as a group of 2 on a Tuesday evening.

Booked a table for 30 months in advance, submitted menu choices well in advance, still a complete shambles from start to finish. Booked for 7.30. Still no food to be seen by 9pm. It turns out they hadn't received starter choices, just mains, but at no point were we told that & asked to place our starter orders there & then, so nobody had a clue what was happening. Some garlic bread appeared, but I had one piece, thinking I had a starter & main to eat yet. Starters never did happen. They put some salami & bread out to sweeten us but lots of people didn't like it. Had to ask twice for plates to eat it from.

I came here this week for a friends catch up. Our food was excellent and service even better. Our waitress Poppy was a delight and nothing was too much bother for her. Service with a smile! Only downside was the cocktail bar shut at ten, which made the evening come to an end too quickly. I would definitely reccomend and we will be visiting again soon.

4 of us visited 22 The Square last weekend. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. They went through each thing on the menu to tell us what could and couldn't be made gluten free.

The evening special 2 for £22 is good value and well cooked and presented. Considering it was a Tuesday evening the place was packed both down stairs and up stairs. They are doing something right.

We love going to 22, it’s always a pleasant visit. We have been as a couple, with family and for a party and never had a bad mean. The staff are great and the food is always good. Highly recommended

Can not rate this place highly enough. Service and food was excellent. I had the fillet steak cooked blue. It just melted in your mouth. I have not found anywhere that does steak so well. My wife had the fish risotto which was also superb. Have yet to be disappointed with this venue. Ticks all the boxes

From start to finish: fabulous. We celebrated a family birthday here and Aaron helped us plan a perfect menu for the occasion. We booked a table for two as our Wedding Anniversary meal for the Soul Night that took place on 16th August.

Been here a couple of times for a meal and we're always happy with the service and the quality of food. The price is also very fair and consistent. The only time we had a grievance was when we ordered a pizza to go and to my surprise when collecting it I saw they was a deal on pizzas for the diners which was not offered to us when we ordered :( but highly recommend for a date night or a family get together.

Visited tonight with my sister in law here from the states with very exact dietary requirements. Chef came up with the most amazing vegetable risotto and we were very impressed, e excellent food and service thankyou

At the 22 the square tonight felt so welcome the owner was so chatty and welcoming sat down to a gorgeous pornstar martini half the price of them elsewhere to follow with creamy garlic mushroom and mozzarella in Tomato sauce to start beautiful .... then asked for a Long Island ice tea and was told about a Japanese Ice tea so defo thought I’ll try that it was strong and lovely we followed up with the most beautiful and tasty fillet steak cooked to perfection wil defo be returning and you should all try it fab place we’ll recommend

It was my 34th wedding anniversary and my fabulous hubby booked a table at my favourite restaurant. Never disappointed, the food was out of this world and the service as always second to none. Highly recommended and excellent value for money. If you have not tried it you need to. You will not be disappointed!

Great service, great food, great prices. Got 2 for £22 which we didn’t expect which consisted of 2 courses for 2 people for £22 during week. Great value as favourite like mozzarella Carozza, dough balls, pizza, spag bol and lasagne were included. Also surprised my partner with a sambucca and sung happy birthday to her.

Visited Halifax over the weekend and before leaving we popped into 22 for lunch. We had the 2 for £22 option and we were thoroughly impressed, we were welcomed and served by a lovely and professional gentlemen and the food arrived quickly we had the carrot and red pepper soup to start and it was delicious and then followed by a gorgeous chiraz and lasagne and the pollo millanese. Both meals were beautiful and the whole experience was delightful, will 100% be coming back and would recommend to friends and family

The environment was cold including the heating, the manager pushed us to buy extra drinks but other than that the food was nice! Still very Italian

A delightful Italian restaurant which provides a true taste of authentic Italian meals, freshly cooked by experienced chefs. The staff were friendly, welcoming, courteous and very professional. The excellent early bird menu is also available at present during the lunchtime sitting; lots of choice at reasonable prices.

The best steak I have eaten in a very long time!

Excellent menu, but when the food came I have to admit to being a little disappointed, I really don't know why, it was tasty and well cooked, service was efficient if a little clinical, I just wasn't as enamoured as I thought I would be.

We had to go because my girlfriend felt a bit poorly but one of the waitresses noticed and sent her manager over. The staff were excellent and food phenomenal when we ate it. We will be returning and eating in on a day she feels better.

This was my first time at 22 The Square after hearing lots of good reports. We went for Mother's Day with family. Service was excellent as was the food. The restaurant was full as it was Mother's Day but it was very well staffed so we had no delays.

This was a great place for a get together of friends and family. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and welcoming. We would all definitely recommend this restaurant for everyone who loves good food, a friendly atmosphere and excellent service.

Went out last night as an early mother’s day meal to find out that our table was being set as we entered even though we were five minutes late. It was really over booked and obviously understaffed. We had to wait half an hour for one starter and a garlic bread and a further 15 minutes for this to be taken away. It felt like they were trying to fit far to many people in for the amount of staff they had in. Definitely won’t be returning on a Saturday for sure.

We regularly visit 22 the square, really delicious food, good service and a nice atmosphere. We haven’t tried the steakhouse yet but had steaks from the square and they are delicious. My only fault is that the food is very expensive and slightly overpriced if you ask me, especially when you compare it to the likes of bibi’s in Leeds which it is very similar to. This puts us off going more often and I know others that say the exact same.

We had a lovely meal here to celebrate a birthday. Nice menu and good selection on the specials board. Food tasty and well presented. They also have a good wine list. Service very good. Love that you can see the chefs at work in the kitchen.

eleven of us turned up for 4 pm sitting ,We have been before and the staff are always on the ball , we ordered starters and they were o k ,For the the main meal my wife and i ordered Roast Sirloin , when it arrived the sirlion had too big layers of fat and as an ex /retired Butcher i am sure that this piece of meat came from a piece of rib eye through to the shoulder by the make up of the fat ,so either the chef/cook is not too good at buying meat , or the supplier is ripping them off , i also had a small piece of blade end bone in mine , i have to admit , i did not complain as i did not want to upset my sister , Next was the desserts , both my nephews ordered sticky toffeee pud ,and this was a let down as it was only luke warm , again we did not complain , for fear of upsettin my sister , If there is a next time iwill be complaing

We booked a table for 2 with short notice at this restaurant. We were there on time and only had to wait a couple of minutes at the bar, no problem. The service was excellent as was the food. I'd read that the portions were small but this was incorrect. I had loads on my plate. I had a Lobster and crab cocktail to start and then Chicken, chorizo and king prawn risotto with a rocket salad. It was all delicious. My only negative was that as it was a very cold night, there was a bit of a draught from the door as people left but I was told I could reserve a particular table for the next time. All in all, it's a fabulous place for a special meal.

Now don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t say this is your fine dining Italian experience, and I wouldn’t say no to fine dining. However I think this place is just right dress up dress down if you want relaxed atmosphere staff not to in your face and always hovering at your table which I find it a bug bear at times I like to be left to enjoy my meal which you can do here chat relax enjoy time with friends staff there when you need them I loved all my starters and loved my drinks! Slight downfall I’d say was my steak but probably due to the cut I chose which was quite fatty however my other half had another kind of steak and when I tried his it was delicious would recommend would be a enjoyable relaxed night out with you nearest and dearest !

We visited for my sisters birthday meal, the restaurant opened early to accommodate the time we wanted.

Not been here for a while so was nice to pay a return visit. I didn’t feel the menu choices had changed much since last time but still had a variety to choose from. I ordered pasta with a beef ragu which was tasty but was mostly pasta in a sauce with a couple of pieces of beef I wasn’t blown away. On the whole we enjoyed the food but if I had to choose I prefer the food at the smokehouse their other restaurant.

Booked the restaurant for a family meal for 20. Excellent service, bringing the meal forward to accommodate the family wishes. Food was excellent and service was speedy and efficient. A separate dining area made the meal special. Aaron was a great help in organising beforehand and on the day.

We visited this restaurant last for the first time and the last time. We were sat upstairs next to the bar so I hope from this review the owners know who I am talking about. The food was good but the service was terrible. We were a party of 10 for my sons birthday. There were not enough menus so we had to share so that takes time to choose your choices.

Me and my partner are regular customers to 22 the square. We visit as a couple and also as a family. The service is always brilliant and the staff are very attentive. The food caters for a range of tastes including a good children’s menu which is great value for money! We would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a tastie meal! Thank you!

We have been coming here for almost a year and I’m so pleased we found it. The food is beautiful, always cooked to your liking and they take notice that my husband detests cheese which means he is never worried it will end up on his plate. The early bird menu is fantastic, so many choices and they don’t scrimp on portions like some places. My favourite starter is the pate, it’s delicious, far nicer than any other Italian that’s we go to and the pate to toast ratio is spot on. My husband tried the fish cakes this week and said they were to die for. I always have pollo crema for main, it’s always perfectly cooked with plenty of sauce. We brought some friends this time and as one of them is a cook, I was slightly worried but she loved it. She said the soup was the best she had ever had and the steak was perfect;y cooked and tasty. We probably,y haven’t been enough to get to know the staff yet but I intend to remedy that next year.

We had booked a table but was surprised at how quiet it was for a Friday night. When we went in we were greeted straight away, we ordered drinks at the bar while the waiter checked on the table. He returned quickly and were seated straight away and the drinks quickly followed.

We reserved a table well in advance & my understanding of this is that an appointed table should have had a reservation card on it but we were told that we would have to wait or go upstairs which we decided to do which was a big mistake !! .... it was like a glorified cafe & the staff were not in the least bit friendly , we were never asked if we enjoyed our meal which personally to me it was nothing to write home about !! ... when we left there were 4 members of staff from the kitchen in the car park all on there mobiles & smoking .... I'm a smoker but this looked totally out of order !!!

We are regular visitors of 22 the square, we absolutely love it here. Raj is so welcoming and the food is incredible. Our kids deemed theirs the best Sticky toffee pudding in the world.. ❤️ As always we will be back.

Brought my partner here for a birthday meal, I’ve always wanted to try it every time we drove past! We were greeted on arrival and taken care of straight away. The service was exceptional, they did everything down to putting black pepper on your meal for you and pulling the chairs out for you!

This is an excellent restaurant.The food served is extremely tasty never had a bad visit.Service is very good .Prices for drinks are very expensive.But for a treat or special night out it's worth a visit.

I came here with my parents and my fiancé. We’ve been once before to check it out before my dad came back from working away so this being our second visit we knew what to expect.

The food is always nice and the menu is a good size with vegetarian options and specials. It is more expensive than chain Italians but has a much nicer feel and the quality of food reflects this. Saying that, they do the 2 people, 2 courses menu for £22 earlier on in the evening with is great value. The staff are always friendly and welcoming.

I am so happy we have found this lovely restaurant. The decor is class, every member of staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. Nothing is too much trouble and the service was amazing. The food - oh my gosh - the food. It was that delicious that I can't even put into words how much I enjoyed it. I have visited heaven tonight. Me and my sister will be returning in the future with our husband's and we are really looking forward to spending our Christmas day here. Thank you everyone.

After hearing plenty of good reviews we decided to try it out and were really happy with the food. Staff were friendly and there is a really nice atmosphere.

I went with my mum, sister and niece, we arrived front of house was very friendly, there was a coat stand which we appreciated as we had been rained on, the restaurant was lovely and warm. We walked to our table to be greeted by an open pass and all the chefs were friendly and smiling. Me and my sister ordered the 2 course for 2 for £22 which for 22 on the square was a great menu, plenty of options it was hard to decide. I had mozerella for starter and ribeye with peppercorn sauce. The ribeye was cooked to perfection it melted in my mouth, by far the best restaurant steak I have ever had. My mum ate from the specials board and she loved it scallops and homemade fish cakes. Everything was homemade my niece had a beautiful homemade pizza, we had cocktails too the bar menu had a great choice, I’m trying the jug of sangria next time I go. The manager said hello to us and was very warm and friendly. The waitresses made sure we didn’t want for nothing all in all a great experience and we will be back so thank you. We have also decided to book for Christmas Day too once again another great menu. Exciting times ahead, should mention also free parking around the back. Definitely worth a visit, we loved it

Lovley food and service was busy but tendered to everyones needs clean. Toilets in darkness menscout of service so men women sharing didnt like that. bit pricey

I seriously cannot fault this place. We have visited this restaurant many times and it never disappoints. The staff are so welcoming and there’s never a hurry to get you out the door. Had the fillet steak and it is the best steak I’ve ever had. Great atmosphere, nothing is ever too much trouble and the food is exceptional. Well done team 22

A 7pm booking on a saturday night. A booking for 6 all ariving at different times. From the moment we walked in and explained we were a little early all the staff were so nice. We all ordered different starters which all arrived at the same time. The goats cheese on bread with honey drizzle. Mmmmmm. My main was the meatballs and spaghetti which was stunning. Although i didnt have a sweet (i never order a sweet) the remainder of our party cleaned and nearly licked their plates. The food is gorgeous and fresh that , if youre sat in the right seat, you can see being made. In summary fantastic place, food and service that we will definately visit again.

Just got to love this restaurant. Have attended on a few occasions and it never lets you down. The setting and service is excellent. Staff are really friendly. The food , no matter what you have is superb. Tonight I had a blue fillet steak which I have to say was probably the best I have eaten anywhere. It was so good I did not want it to end. My wife had Lemon Sole of the Specials board and that also was excellent. If your looking for excellent food in nice surroundings, this place will not disappoint.

Wasn't expecting much, but wow!!! Service great, food even better, atmosphere was cool, Excellent little find!! Definitely will be back!!

We feel fortunate to have accidentally found this restaurant. Our 2 meals were superb. The kitchen is open so you can see the chefs at work. The ingredients were clearly top quality and perfectly combined to make flavoursome meals. I had the very tasty spicy meatballs with spaghetti and my friend had a risotto which she thoroughly enjoyed. We shared a delightful tiramisu. The portion size was good and the price very reasonable. Well done guys
