Very friendly staff and great decor. Ordered the jerk chicken, but was disappointed, the chicken was dry and I was pretty sure it had just been microwaved. But, for the price it wasn't too bad.

Can’t recommend simmer down more highly if i could give 10 stars I would. We went there in a group of 11 and had a banquet the food was amazing and I don’t think I’ve ever been anywhere where the owners and staff take so much pleasure in making sure you have a great night ( If you haven’t been to simmer down then you should be asking your self why not )

Excellent - as a fan of 2Tone the vibe was great; had the Caribbean breakfast which was really tasty and cheap.

Tried their Caribbean breakfast and it was delicious! Staff were really helpful and charming, advising what to try as there were a few things I'd never tried before. Very reasonably priced. Sat on the table just outside and it was such a friendly place that we were chatting to lots of people. We loved it!

Average coffee, OK service.. Tables dirty, outdoor covered area that needs a deep deep clean.. Why?? When it's not been open, it should be spotless

Myself and 5 friends recently went for a meal at the Simmer Down. I planned this in advance with Angela and Alph due to the restrictions on numbers etc. Angela gave us a 3 course menu choice to cover all our dietry requirements which we picked in advance, and gave her our orders. On the evening we had our own little seating area and food and drink were bought to us. Each course was freshly cooked and was extremely tasty, and we had an extra couple of sides of sweet potato and plantain thrown in too.Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, the food was great, the atmosphere was brilliant and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting freshly cooked, home made Carribean food...And I have to mention the rum punch...it is far too addictive, once you've had one, you can't stop!

Food authentic and very good. Service was great and the rum punch was lovely and ALOT of rum in it. This is one of Cov's hidden gems. We will definitely be back

I've been in the restaurant when it was open, but today everyone...I ordered delivery and I fell in love.Order: Saltfish and Ackee,dumplings,plaintain,jerk sausage,rice and peas.Nowhere else in Coventry will you get a decent amount of saltfish and ackee. You get a healthy amount, and honey it was immaculate.Dumplings, fried and fluffy.Plaintains like a sweet kiss.Jerk sausage got that decent chew on it, better than your thickest,sexiest cumberland!Rice and peas...is rice and peas lmao, they did what they had too.Only this can keep me going during a pandemic, now its available for delivery!?Amazing.And they gave me two lindt lads?For free?Order for delivery for an affair that won't get you in trouble...and tell your friends because this place can satisfy everyone.I'll be back again when you open, til then I'll be waiting at my door.

Visited today with friends. Was made to feel very welcome. I asked for a vegetarian dish and the chef said leave it with me and she delivered on her promise. Only I would of perhaps of like it to of been more spicy but I take the blame for that because I should of asked. Also had fried dumplings which were light and fluffy and the best I've had

Hada full English breakfast this morning at the T tone Cafe , it is by far the best breakfast i have had , tea, two toast and two bacon,two sausage,two egg, beans toms and black pudding all for five pounds .cooked to perfection . I sat outside in the fresh air wonderful,and great service also.can't wait till i'm there again . Thankyou guys .Chris.

Part of the two tone village complex which includes a cafe memorabilia shop two tone clothing shop bar/ live music venue room.the restaurant specialises in good quality Caribbean food open Fri Sat evening's but booking for 4 or more can be taken for the rest of the week.

Very warm welcome and a laid back friendly atmosphere, just as we have experienced in that lovely Caribbean island. The young lady who served us passed on our particular requests to the chef and the food arrived just as we had ordered. Delicious. No problem...! Loved the two-tone tributes and history displayed in the decor. One of Coventry's greatest exports. Will definitely come again. Thankyou for a very pleasant homely evening.

Popped in here when we visited the music museum. Great food, decent prices, and lots of memorabilia. Our friends had the jerk chicken and rate it as the best they have had.

As the sign says this is not fast food it is good food as fast as we can make it. It is really good food with a really friendly atmosphere.

Went on a groupon with my wife, what can I say. Amazing service, lovely food. No rip off prices. Just a really good night, went next door for a night cap at knights, same service and warm welcoming smiles. If you live in Coventry, get up there and support local businesses that deserve your time. I was bought a groupon voucher for here for my birthday in August so used it this weekend. Wasn’t sure exactly what to expect but had read the reviews and knew the food was going to be good .

As a large party, we had the buffet option. Lots of different foods to taste, the curried mutton was delicious, as was the simmer down mince, ackee and salt fish. Plenty of food for all, friendly staff, amazing ginger cake for dessert. The rum Cocktails were popular. A fantastic evening meal

Quality food - I wasn’t expecting that much in terms of quality or even quantity and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Love the location of the venue within the ‘village’ a hidden gem I feel!!!

What can be better than enjoying amazing Jamaican food; served by thoughtful and warm staff; ska and rock steady playing in the background; surrounded by nostalgic 2-Tone artwork? I think it's the best cafe I've ever been to. I highly recommend it after your trip to the Coventry Music Museum.

Had a surprise birthday party on Saturday at Simmer Down restaurant. The food, service and welcome we had was brilliant. Simmer Down is not just a restaurant it is a true experience of Caribbean food, hospitality and culture. The best way I would describe Simmer Down is it is like going for a meal at your Auntie's house in Jamaica.

I was in Coventry as I figured it was about time I had a look at the Music Museum, and remembered a good breakfast last time I visited the 2 Tone Café. I was certainly not disappointed.

Visit the Cafe whenever I get chance and love the mutton curry, rice and peas. Old school, traditional food and real character.

Just had the most enjoyable evening at the Simmer Down restaurant, the food was beautiful and the service perfect. Listened to wonderful music and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The staff were lovely, friendly, attentive and delivered our food and drinks with a wonderful smile. Really think if you are in the area you should give this restaurant a try, wish we had been before, but will certainly be going again. Two tone cafe was amazing, full of memorabilia. really nice staff too. well worth a visit, the whole experience of the Ska village is an experience never to be forgotton, so much so that we will be back, we live in Teesside about 3 hours away. we visited Coventry for a long weekend and its an amazing place full of history, not surprised it won the city of culture.

Absolutely and I truly mean absolutely gorgeous food. Very reasonable prices, atmosphere was lovely and the music mixture they played was just wicked. (You need to sell this mix on CD ) Felt like I was back in Jamaica only the food served here is better than I've been served in Jamaica. The service was so friendly and I can't recommend this place highly enough. First time visitors last night and definitely planning on making it our regular place to eat out.

Right from the off the staff were friendly and helpful with a minor adjustment (to our taste) on the menu accommodated without a qualm. All four of us have visited the Caribbean and so have some insight into the food. We all chose something different from the menu and were all delighted with the food we had ordered. The food is predominately Jamaican which we discussed with one of the chef's and co-owners later in the evening and this illustrated their passion for their restaurant. We will be back

Whether it's just a good filter coffee or their classic "Tea Tone" Tea, a light snack, a "full English, or some of their amazing Caribbean cuisine, Alph and Angela Knight have something to put the smile on your taste buds.

Excellent Jamaican food at a very reasonable price

This appears to be two places in one - the Two Tone Café during the day time, and the Simmer Down Restaurant in the evening, with separate opening times. I went at lunch, so this review only reflects the Café side.

I’ve eaten here many times, on this visit, through ice and snow, best food, warming surrounding, and the very best of staff, owner and fellow customers, value, without question or rival, a real treat xx

Lovely little café offering all you need for a lunch or simply a relaxing drink and snack. plenty of choice on the menu and excellent service. The café itself is simple but full of memorabilia of the 2 tone style of music over the years. Well worth a visit for that experience.

Went here with friends for a post Christmas get together, following a recommendation. It was very quiet, we were the only booking that evening, however, we chatted and had a lovely evening together. Our food was freshly prepared and tasted delicious. The service (as would be expected for such a small group) was excellent. The staff were very friendly. I would like to return at a busier time of year. Loved the background music also.

Went for a buffet meal 20/08/17 to celebrate my sisters birthday, there were seven of us, the meal was absolutely fantastic, second to nun, the place was nice abs cosey , staff could not be nicer, real propper carribean cooking. The portions were spot on. I traveled all tge way from Wolverhampton to get to this venue, and you know, it was more than worth our while.. well dont to the team at simmer down , keep up the good work ..

Slightly let down by decor, you don't notice when in a crowd or having fun, but for slow cooked melt in the mouth mutton with great taste and a very reasonable price you can't go wrong with this place. The lady cooking the food is very hospitable. Loved the music choice too.

Popped in for lunch whilst visiting the museum. Was impressed with the range of food on the menu but plumped for mutton curry, rice and peas with a Red Stripe. My wife had the all day breakfast which was nice but I made the best choice, was absolutely lovely. Can recommend this place is a wonderful little cafe, especially if you're a bit of an old Rude Boy with a liking for Caribbean Food

I have called my reason for the visit business. I was attending the wonderful Coventry music museum for the Delia Derbyshire day.This is a wonderful 2 Tone themed Caribbean cafe also serving English food.My first & lasting impression is that is is clean & well thought out & cared for.remarkably no smell of cooking which is often a feature of this type of cafe.I let the Caribbean side down by having a full English breakfast. This was all freshly cooked, I did have to wait but that is good. The food arrived well cooked, and with ample portions.The staff were welcoming, and really very pleasant.As I often say in reviews, it is the overall experience & not one individual item that makes or breaks a place.This cafe - Fantabulosa!Lord Brian Leathley - Andrew

This was my first time at Simmer Down celebrating a friend's "special" birthday and also my first time trying Caribbean food. This family run restaurant exceeded all expectations. Tucked away in a quiet corner it provided a warm welcome and exceptional Caribbean home cooking. This ranged from Ackee & Saltfish in yorkshire puddings, fritters, mince shots, curried mutton, oxtail curry, jerk chicken with an outstanding sweet chilli sauce which are just to name a few as well as a vegetarian option which was also available. Adjacent to the restaurant is a bar with a dance floor and seating area if you feel like dancing the night away. The service just like the food was outstanding and the owners were very welcoming. Like me if you have never tried Caribbean food before I would highly recommend that you give this restaurant a try as your first choice as you will not be disappointed.

Researched this restaurant on trip advisor when visiting Coventry with friends. Well worth the trip. Tricky to find so ask. Food was fabulous, mixed platter starter for 4 was a great introduction to Caribbean flavours. All main meals were delicious, oxtail and broad bean stew and brown chicken stew. Roast beef In a rum sauce was a revelation. As it was St Patrick's day I had a Guinness punch cocktail and wasn't disappointed. Headed across the lane to the bar after food where the great hospitality continued. If you are going to Coventry do yourself a favour and head down to the Simmer Down!

Had lunch in the cafe. It was a Monday and the restaurant wasn't open. Had the jerk chicken burger and fries. Excellent and very reasonably priced. Had to wait for someone so was there for a couple of hours and had a couple mugs of coffee. Only £1.10 mug!!! To top it off the venue is decorated with images from the Two Tone era with memorabilia for some of the best music you can listen too.

Went here on Saturday evening, very friendly people can't do enough for you, even opened restaurant early and took my order half a hour early so we could get off to see Nevell stapples. Food is out of this world and beer is good too, thanks for all you did Anthony bellars

Our second visit to Simmer Down Restaurant and it certainly won't be our last. Puzzled that we were the only ones in on Friday night as the quality of the food is superb. Maybe it's the homely, no frills decor but to me it adds to the atmosphere. The owners and waitress are so friendly and the food is full of flavour, cooked with love and pride. Reasonable prices both for the food and drinks. Only £1 for a coke and £12 for a decent bottle of red. Can't wait to visit the cafe part in the day some time.

Quirky little part of Coventry celebrating Two Tone. Clean and bright restaurant. Friendly and attentive staff. I got the feeling that the people who owned the restaurant loved the restaurant and that what we got was good home cooking. A wide menu with halal options, vegetarian options and even a gluten free dessert.Good size portions. We enjoyed being with people who loved what they were doing. We will go again and take friends with us next time.

Had a lovely Jacket potato with curry they also did full English and Carabian all at reasonable prices.
