A very nice gallery. Be aware that despite historical reviews it no longer operates a cafe. Some really great local art, jewellery and small souvenir items.

A really lovely gallery as are the owners, Mairi and James. Nothing better than a local family run art gallery. I just had a very sentimental painting framed by James and I couldn’t be happier with it, the frame really tops the already brilliant painting off. Thanks James and Mairi.

The four of us found this gem of a place by accident, near the end of a very rainy day as they were just about ready to close thank heavens we did! The friendliness of all the staff was amazing, you could tell that it was a family run business. The coffee / tea and cheese scones were to die for! Having not been in B-of-G for a couple of years, the existence of 1896 was met with some anticipation. And, wow, what a superb addition to the area. Interesting and bright gallery upstairs with worthwhile exhibits. However, the consumable exhibits downstairs were if greater interest to us. It seems the baking is shared between the family members. The knack seems to be genetic. Both the tiffin and cheese scone that we shared was top notch. Staff were clearly local and were wonderfully welcoming with the young lads having a great, wry sense of humour. Absolute pleasure of an experience.
