Some bizarre and unfounded reviews on here… Honestly always fantastic coffee and a great addition to the high street. I’ve always found the staff to be great and very friendly. Great sweet treats as well. Does on occasion get busy at peak times but what do you expect as it’s great food and drink all around. Another bonus for being dog friendly. Keep doing what you’re doing guys!

Excellent coffee in a light and airy, dog-friendly atmosphere! Upbeat and professional staff. The reason behind my 3-star review is the same issue I presented to the cashier when paying: a 'card only' payment policy send a terribly negative and exclusionary social message. I am lucky enough to have a bank account with access to a contactless card and online payment system, but adopting a 'no cash' policy sends the message that those who might not have access to the banking system are fully unwelcome at this establishment. Elderly patrons who pay with cash, those with autism or numeracy disabilities, people on a fixed income who live on cash based payments, or newly arrived immigrant populations without access to the banking system are therefore barred and willfully excluded from 17 Grams based on this policy! Your messaging needs to be reevaluated on the basis of social equity and fairness to the local community. Since I'm visiting a friend in Portslade, I visited several other shops on Boundary Road the same day (including the pet store, hardware shop, and another coffee shop across the road) all of which accept cash payments... so the 'safety and security' justification for not accepting cash falls totally flat: Not one other business I encountered is doing it. Please consider the extremely negative social message this sends those who might be less able to enjoy the luxury of access to traditional banking.... you are purposefully excluding and discriminating against a large part of your local market share in Portslade. Thank you!

Wouldn’t serve me at 7:53 despite two staff being present the machine being on and the doors being wide open. Obviously they don’t want to stay in business. If they were sensible they could have served me and put the transaction through the till 7 minutes later. Edit; The reason I left a bad review is you didn’t ask me to wait you told me the machine wasn’t switched on (lie) you are in hospitality so maybe try at least to be hospitable to your guests. I wouldn’t have had an issue waiting if you had communicated properly.

Pleasant little cafe for a breakfast stop. Had the normal breakfast and enjoyed the thick cut bacon and good quality sausage. The menu did say it came with winter pesto but it was a bit of a shame that it had managed to get on every single piece of food on the plate as would have preferred it on the side. Besides that the food and coffee was good, reasonable enough price and the staff were pleasant and accommodating.

Lovely coffee and lovely staff. When i was choosing some beans to take home, the woman working there was very helpful. On a different day when I ordered some batch brew the man was really keen and lovely and was giving me advice on where to find good aeropress recipes. When im next passing by I will definitely be picking up some more beans.

Such a fab cafe!!! Came to Brighton for the marathon weekend and we all wish we had a cafe like this on our doorstep at home! Coffee was gorgeous and the breakfasts were all great, one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in ages!! Staff were lovely and a really nice environment.

Terrible experience here. I ordered an oat latte, was give one with cows milk and when the girl who made it realized she made a mistake the ‘owner’ said he’d have to charge me for another one, even though the mistake was theirs. So dismissive of my rights as a customer and just plain rude (possibly racist)

Ordered coffee only to be told it was card only. I asked if this was displayed on the door. To which the rude assistant replied no. To which I replied I'll go somewhere else. Which I did and enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee paid for in cash.

This cute coffee shop has stolen my heart. The coffee is always served with precision and a touch of love. The presentation is top-notch, making each cup a delightful experience. The menu is a winner with fantastic lunch options. And let's talk about those cakes – utterly delicious! But my recent discovery and new obsession are the banana pancakes. They are a taste bud sensation – you've got to try them! The cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and consistently superb quality have turned 17 Grams into my haven for catching up with friends. If you're a coffee enthusiast or just looking for a fantastic place to unwind, this is it. Can't recommend it enough! ☕🍰🍌

Nice coffee and cake and always crowded. As the central serving island is large & has offerings on every surface there is nowhere to stand and drink coffee when all the seats are taken. I know it's always busy but needing to ask to have the table cleaned shouldn't be the case, let's hope that was an exception. Update: Really delightful staff today & so helpful. Update 2 : Still the biz! Update 3: It still is! (Ps - the coffee's great) Update 4 : still good

Had the BEST fry up ever at 17 grams today. To good to even be called a fry up. Such care was taken with everything on the plate. It goes without saying that the coffees damm delicious too!

Cute cafe selling plant based breakfast, chai tea, have oat milk, maca latte, freshly ground coffee etc. Quiet, chilled music, modern decor with two cute olive trees. Great service.

Incredibly delicious coffee, fantastic sausage roll (made on location!), and wonderful, friendly and helpful baristas. Completely felt at home on my first visit and will definitely be back next time I'm down that way 😊🤗 Batch brew is complex and scrummy, espresso full bodied and flavourful 🤌

Really friendly staff brought us lovely coffee and pastries in just a few minutes. The place is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. It's fairly cosy but they've certainly made great use of the space they have. Prices are totally fair for the excellent quality. Nothing not to love for a Saturday morning pit stop! We didn't have hot food this time but we saw some being delivered that looked and smelled delicious - definitely looking forward to trying that soon!

The team here are fantastic and so is the working environment. Like an idiot whilst working i forgot completely about my coffee and it went cold. I had asked for it to be simply nuked in a microwave or hot air added for me, and the staff kindly agreed to make me a fresh one which they didn't need to do. They've got over and above. Really appreciate it and the stress free working environment. Thank you!

Lovely cappuccino and croissant

Had the best banana pancakes of my life at 17GRAMS. Everyone was lovely, the vibe was great. Next time I’m in Hove I’ll be making a bee-line to this lovely place.

I don't normally leave reviews but this had to be an exception. I had the most delicious brunch here, with a nod to Mexican flavours and would highly recommend. I often find brunch options quite boring and samey but I'd definitely come back here for breaky. Excellent coffee and friendly staff too.

I love this place and we come here almost every time we come to Brighton. Such a friendly, welcoming team and the most delicious food menu (great veggie options) and coffee. The veggie breakfast and iced chai latte is my go-to (the iced mocha is also 👌🏻)

I may arrive in wrong time as the place was busy and all I ask was flat white coffee to take away, first I been paid and been told to wait out till my coffer be ready...I was waiting almost 30 minutes for Very average coffee.... First and last time Sorry guy's I followed recommendations and wanted to give it a go... Best of luck!

Great coffee and brunch place. There are lots of really interesting options for brunch, good size portions and good quality ingredients and cooking. Impressive for this area especially.

Delicious freshly roasted specialty coffee

I only had cash on me, but very disapointed to find out that they dont except legal tender. This just does not make any sence.

This place is wonderful. Sweet pink haired lady took great care of us both times and everyone else on staff was also very kind. Highly recommend the veggie English breakfast - super tasty miso portobello and even tastier homemade baked beans.

My husband and I happened upon this place. We're new to Portslade. Lydia's kindness and attentive hospitality is what makes us frequent this cafe. Such a great atmosphere. Coffee is also good.

I had a lovely vegan (not sausage) roll and oat milk flat white to go. Great friendly atmosphere and hard working yet calm staff.

Coffee and a pain-au-chocolat, what better way to start the day, and to have it this nicely presented with a smile is aways welcome to, a very nice snug location for a divine coffee.

Best coffee at Portslade... needs a wait tho...

We called in here on a damp dreary day over xmas, with the intention of grabbing a coffee only. However the cake display 'shouted out' to us and we added cake to the coffee. Delicious. It was quiet, being early morning and during holiday period but the place had a great little buzz and atmosphere with staff and customers. If we should find ourselves in this neck of the woods again we'll detour here before heading home. It may have been damp and dreary, but our spirits were lifted after our visit.

Great coffee , great staff. Never had a bad coffee from here and the prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of coffee you get. They are pretty particular about how they make it, even weighing the ground coffee to ensure it is spot on before making it. Staff always friendly and chatty. I've never tried the pastries etc but they certainly look appealing and they have just started doing soup for the winter.

I came in via a recommendation from a friend, and I was not disappointed. Lovely service with a nice clean shop floor. They just re opened the kitchen and I got the breakfast burrito and it was absolutely delicious. The quality the coffee as-well was really good, and they swap out there roasts regularly. I would highly recommend this coffee shop :)

I just been this coffee shop, they asking all card payment, and I didn’t bring my credit card with me, they refused service, what’s stupid system!only for £5 pounds coffee…. Good luck with your business!

Staff are nice. Blend coffee is nice too. Good vibe and recommend to try the brownie. They also sell some Hario products and different beans of her brand or other guest brands.

I've walked past 17 Grams almost every day for ages but today was my first visit. Very nice. Quick friendly service and a great selection of vegan cakes. I'll certainly go back. Highly recommended!

No cash accepted which i find very strange. The coffee is really nice but by law you are not allowed to enforce no cash policy's when cash is a tangible asset. Good luck in the future.

Probably one of the best (decaf) coffees I've had in a long time and super hot too. Why is it so hard to get hot coffee? Yeah, health & blah blah. Love all the 17 grams places 👌

Open airy spacious cafe with delicious vegan menu, Lovely coffee children and dog friendly, Relaxing atmosphere, staff are brilliant, Well laid out. Modern decor, a good meeting place for friends & family, outside smoking area, Breath of fresh air for Portslade. No need to travel to town. The newest and best cafe right on our doorstep. Even have Baby cappuccino’s for kids. So enjoyable Well worth the visit

Honestly it's a bit dirty My second time recently where there was food crumbs on an already pretty grubby looking sofa, and thetr were dogs sat on the other sofa. I like dog friendly cafes, but the dog should be well behaved, on a lead and on the floor not the furniture or within reach of tables or food. Very disappointing because the coffee and the food are great. Shame

Was much nicer in the other premises,walls ade bare, feels rushed and un finished!
