What an amazingly lucky find! We booked Afternoon Tea here at relatively short notice, after deciding on a trip out to nearby Bressingham Gardens. We used a Buy A Gift Voucher (a Mother’s Day gift), which I’m sometimes hesitant about, but were welcomed by the owners into their beautifully presented ‘pub’. The sandwiches were fresh and appetising, the cakes so tempting. And what we couldn’t finish was boxed up for us to enjoy later at home. The experience couldn’t have been improved upon, in my opinion!

We went to Cafe 1066 to use a voucher for afternoon tea for 2. My daughter decided she would like to join us at short notice. I phoned ahead to warn the owners and they assured me they could add extras to our tea but this would not be covered by our voucher. On the day we were welcomed into this beautiful place and served our afternoon tea in good time. The tea itself was delicious and incredibly generous portions for us. My daughter loved it and the owners waived the fee for the extra bits when it came to payment which we felt was very generous. All in all we would highly recommend.

We had been given some 'buyagift' vouchers for afternoon tea, and were staying in Suffolk, so we found that the nearest place that we could use the vouchers was 1066 at the Chequers. From start to finish, the whole experience was utterly sublime. When we booked, the lady I spoke to could not have been more helpful, and made it feel like I was booking something very special. My wife and 2 friends were booked in for 1.00pm on 26th June 2024. We had spent the morning at the Steam Museum at Bressingham, just a hundred yards down the road, so we were ready for our early tea. For a start, the building is spectacular - half timbered and thatched, and in spite of the very hot weather, it was cool inside, and furnished with antique furniture and tastefully chosen furnishings. We were welcomed with sparkling wine and shown to our large table in the lovely dining room. When we were settled, the sandwiches and cakes arrived. There was a really good selection of sandwiches, beautifully made on fresh, granary bread with cucumber and cream cheese, ham and mustard and smoked salmon. There were also small, savoury tarts to go with them. The scones were warm and very fresh, with clotted cream, jam and butter, followed by a fantastic selection of small and beautifully made cakes. We were given refills of sparkling wine and then our preference of tea or coffee. The whole affair was very leisurely and relaxed, and the hosts could not have been more welcoming and attentive. A truly special experience, which I can not recommend highly enough. As a footnote, my wife and I treated ourselves to afternoon tea at the five star Reid's Palace in Madeira in April 2024. Frankly, the quality of the meal at Reid's fell a long way short of that at 1066 at The Chequers, and I don't say that lightly. Thank you for a truly special experience.

We have just returned from a delicious afternoon tea, it was well worth the journey from our home in North Norfolk. We were given a very friendly welcome, the surroundings are beautiful, and the food on offer was really lovely. My husband particularly enjoyed the meringues, (he ate two) and the warm scones were delightful. I would recommend this venue to everyone.

Visited this charming country pub on a Saturday afternoon. We had booked afternoon tea for my friend's birthday which we thoroughly enjoyed. A glass of prosecco was included and the three tier selection of cakes and sandwiches was very nice. The cakes were delicious as were the warm fruit scones. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff and the surroundings were comfortable and relaxing. The tartlet being warm and a little more variety in the sandwich fillings would have made this a 5 star experience, without question. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.

The place looks lovely from the outside in the frosty weather, sadly the reception was just as frosty! We arrived to be told that we could only have light bar food for a very limited menu and that we could only sit in a very small seating area, which was not big enough for our party The drinks were extremely expensive, nearly £20 for a glass of wine and a Guinness. In addition the lighting flickering could have caused an epileptic fit!! My advice would be to not call it a bar and restaurant because it clearly isn’t!

Went for a Red Letter Day Afternoon Tea, with bubbles 🥂. From the moment we arrived , the lady made us feel very welcome, very attentive and oozed with experience and top rated service. The home baked quiche tart was excellent, lovely crisp pastry, and the sandwich fingers were also if a high quality. As were the home made patisseries. The room was very clean and decorated to a high quality , would definitely go back for another visit , well done, so nice to be served so well .

Despite some other very negative reviews, we were pleased with our afternoon tea experience. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. We were the only guests there and it was really nice to have it to ourselves. The background music was nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our afternoon tea was a gift voucher that we’d booked in advance and it included bottomless bubbles. My wife had 3 glasses of fizz and the English Breakfast tea was really nice too..real tea leaves not tea bags. The sandwiches were tasty and fresh and the savoury tarts were really nice too. The scones themselves were ok, but we figured they had been reheated rather than freshly made. The cakes and other pastries were nice enough although we couldn’t finish them all and we took them away in a box. Overall we rated this as a very pleasant experience.

The venue was lovely, staff lovely. Afternoon tea was a real disappointment, we were given vouchers for a present. Bottomless bubbles after noon tea price paid approximately £60 for 2 people. Food was supermarket bought, Mr Kipling cakes, packet scones no freshly made cakes which were shown on the advertisement, bubbles were not bottomless, just one glass. I have never experienced an afternoon tea out as bad as this. Could have opened a packet and stayed at home.

Afternoon tea. Hazel was lovely. Pub setting pretty and perfectly clean, great decor. Afternoon tea was shop bought from a supermarket and put on a cake stand. Never been anywhere where this has happened. Tarlet and sandwiches homemade but supermarket scones and even Mr Kipling French fancies. So disappointed, having been to Norfolk Mead and Assembly rooms recently I have surprised they can call this an afternoon tea. Cost me about £90 in a voucher. Did not want to make a scene as we were the only ones in the restaurant and it was for my Husbands birthday. Honestly quite shocked. This would have come them about £10 in total for four of us. See photo!!

Lady who took our booking was really polite and helpful and phoned me back to confirm booking. Had two vouchers for an afternoon tea for two, so a party of 4 , lady made sure the vouchers were valid and made sure we were booked in on the same table. The food it’s self was lovely and very well presented on three tier plates. Asked what drink of tea we would like and made fresh and tasted lovely, plus refilled a couple of times. Then glasses of Prosecco were presented to the table at the end. And then put the left over sandwiches and cakes in a nice box to take home. Overall the food was lovely and level of service was impeccable. Highly recommended Will definitely be going again in the future. Thank you.

Visited recently for an Afternoon Tea. From the minute my friend and I stepped out of my car it was apparent that this place is loved! Attention to the grounds is exceptional and is an indication of what to expect indoors. We were greeted by a lovely lady who took us immediately to our table. Once seated it was clear that the same attention to detail we had seen outside does, indeed, extend to the inside. We were asked what tea we would lke, and something happened that I have never had at any other afternoon tea I have had (and i've had a fair few)! We were asked how strong we would like our tea, and the quality of the tea (and strength) upon arrival did not disappoint. The savoury tarts are something to behold and the selection of sandwiches and cakes could even give 5* London restaurants a run for their money. Spotless! Beautifully decorated and the most amazing attention to detail make this place an absolute gem.

If you want to pay £7.50 for two slices of supermarket wholemeal bread with packet beef and a smear of vinegary horseradish, then this is the place for you. And as mentioned in another review, drinks prices (which aren't listed on the menu for you to consider) are extortionate - higher than London prices: £7.50 for a pint of Camden Pale; £9.75 for a Guinness. It's a shame because the decor and ambience is great, well it was until the radio was turned on - we were enjoying the quiet. One slightly haphazard member of staff who insulted my friend because they needed a gluten-free option implying it was a choice! Definitely style over substance! Avoid.

Having had lunch with friends we were very disappointed with the food and couldn't believe the drinks prices. £9.75 for a pint of Guinness and £9.50 for a pint of cider. Sandwiches was uninspired sliced bread with hardly any filling and ploughman's was a chunk of cheese, sliced bread, chutney and rocket, no other salad. Would not go back and would recommend avoiding.
