The Sandwich Station

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, <20£
13/06/2019: Visited The Sandwich Station while exploring the northern part of the island. Had delicious Arran Blue Cheese sourdough sandwich. All sandwiches are freshly made to order and use locally sourced ingredients. Excellent choice of imaginative fillings. Sitting outside is not a problem in fine weather. Keep up the good work!
13/06/2019: This is no ordinary sandwich place, and the sandwiches are simply superb. Once me and my group of French walkers discovered this existed, it became an obligatory port of call every day. The choice of breads and fillings was original and, being locally sourced and carefully chosen, ensured that each sandwich was a memorable taste experience. Being opposite the ferry ensures that there is a regular stream of visitors for coffee. The staff were very friendly and, all in all, this was one of the many highlights of our stay.

Stags Pavilion

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
01/08/2017: This little tucked-away restaurant is not to be missed if one visits Arran. Reservations are a must and should be made several days in advance, especially during the busy summer months. I ate here with my mother, my sister who has celiac disease and my 13-year-old niece. All of us ate well, even my niece who is a finicky eater. Kids menu was expansive and suited many palates and kids and regular menu had large portions at reasonable prices. The staff were well able to accommodate my sister's special dietary needs and she ate well here, more than in other fancier restaurants we visited on our tour of Europe. I ate Arran lamb, which was tasty, and my mother ordered several platters for the table, all of which were delicious. We were very stuffed when we left, too stuffed for dessert, which I regret missing out on. I really enjoyed my meal at this restaurant, and although the interior is small, it didn't feel crowded or stuffy. . It was just wonderful to eat my delicious dinner while gazing out at the Scottish hills covered in mist and fog. Loved it, would go back for sure.
01/10/2016: Stayed at Butts Lodge 150 yards away and this and only local pub are the only places that serve evening meals. This does not have a drinks licence but you can take your own and they supply the glasses without any charge. Great selection of food, decent prices and superb service.

braidwoods

Dalry and West Kilbride, North Ayrshire
02/06/2019: Have wanted to eat here for quite a few years but as there’s not much around it, it’s been difficult.
31/05/2019: We thoroughly enjoyed our Dinner last evening, especially the consideration shown to my daughter who has several (annoying!) food allergies.

Little Rock

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
02/06/2019: Best place we tried for breakfast on Arran. Like everything on Arran, expensive but, not as much as other places. Went back a couple of times. Only complaint is the late opening time on Sunday which seems a bit strange for somewhere offering breakfast and didn’t fit with ferry times. Would have given 4.5 if could.
30/05/2019: No matter how quiet or busy the little rock is we have always received a warm friendly welcome and excellent service. The food likewise is consistently good in portion size, quality and value. Highly recommended.

The Old Pier Tearoom

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
31/05/2019: We saw that the cafe sold gluten free cakes so went in and sat down. There were 2 gf cakes that were not stored separately from other cakes (one of which was directly underneath other cakes). Then we watched them cut several slices of cake, including gf, with the same knife. They told us that they had separate knives and that they were boiled between use. What we saw was one knife being sprayed on the coffee machine. Against our better judgement, and because the weather was bad, we had already ordered. Someone else ate it and it wasn't that great anyway. Wouldn't recommend.
30/05/2019: Decided to visit this tearoom while visiting arran due to the reviews we had read on TripAdvisor. The reviews were not wrong and everything we ordered was delicious. Highly recommended.

GRO Coffee

Irvine West, North Ayrshire
04/06/2019: Just caught the weather perfectly and walked the dogs along Irvine Beech, then headed to Gro Coffee just about five minutes from the beach car park. We chose to sit in the garden with the dogs, but you have to ask the staff to unlock the red gate at the side of the garden. There is an assortment of seating and a small play area for children. Dogs are to be kept on leads. There is an excellent choice of breakfasts from a large organic one at roughly £10 to eggs Benedict at just under £8. The coffee is nice and I had the Black Eggs: two poached eggs on Stornaway black pudding sitting on a very thick piece of lovely sourdough bread. Covered with béarnaise sauce and garnished with roasted vine baby tomatoes. Everything was well cooked and nicely presented. If there was a criticism I would suggest that they halved the bread and put an egg/black pudding slice on each half and then cover with sauce. This would increase the amount of sauce slightly and make the bread easier to eat. On the advice of my companion I went into the main restaurant to look at the cakes and pastries, they looked amazing and extremely big! The service was attentive and very polite and there was water bowls for the dogs. All in all a very acceptable was to break ones fast.
30/05/2019: I visited this place last Monday , There were almost as more dogs in it than people . In an eating establishment I believe dogs shouldn’t be allowed . I love dogs as well . We found the service very poor , slow and I witnessed one of the staff a male with a beard being downright rude to a customer. The same staff later more or less shoved by me . As I moved there was no thank you for moving etc . Overpriced , poor quality and rude staff won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

31/05/2019: Another visit to our favourite, great selection of homemade cakes...!! Friendly and welcoming staff...always a must when visiting Arran

Motherland Spice

Saltcoats and Stevenston, North Ayrshire
04/06/2019: The food is very very nice. Piping hot and made fresh to order with the table buffet. The service was very attentive and professional as well as friendly. The only real down side is that the place could do with a freshen up and a lick of paint, just starting to look a bit tired and shabby.
30/05/2019: i find it hard to believe that we have not visited this restaurant earier. We have lived in Saltcoats for 6 years but this was our first time at Motherland Spice. My husband said it was the best Nepali/Indian mel he had ever had and that includes meals in Nepal. Very friendly and comfortable. We will be back (in less than six years).

27/05/2019: I was introduced to Arran Gin here - thank-you, it was a taste sensation. The food is tapas style. Really tasty.
19/05/2019: Really looked forward to eating hear, choose 3 selections and sadly 2 were of poor quality, they sound really yummy, but sadly tasteless. However my friend also choose 3 different dishes and liked all 3. Manager friendly polite and served us well.

Cafe Thyme

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, 20-30£
04/06/2019: Our lunch stop turned into a tea & cake stop, all of which were lovely, but... the food menu is really restricted with fish & chips as almost the only 'regular' choice.
02/06/2019: We dropped in by coincidence and had a jasmin tea and a ginger/lemon grass tea.

The Tearoom

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire
30/05/2019: Took the family here for a lunch. The lentil soup was the best on the island so tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meals and was so good we booked to go back the next day. Highly recommend.
17/05/2019: The Sunday roast, of which there were two choices, were only £6.95 for a small portion (which is suffice) or £8.50 for a large portion (which is huge) and included five varieties of vegetables, potatoes, tender meat, Yorkshire pudding and accompanying sauces and gravy.

Brambles Seafood + Grill

Ardrossan and Arran, North Ayrshire, 30-45£
19/05/2019: The staff are lovely friendly professional people who make this place, however the food is not tasty, I wished I had not paid for dinner b & b. There are 3 restaurants to choose from sadly food not wonderfull in any. I would loike to say we had ribeye on last night and it was really delicious, phew thank goodness.
15/04/2019: We had dinner at Brambles and everything was top quality. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We also had breakfast and again everything was delicious. I highly recommend eating there when in Brodick.
