Been meaning to visit for a while after rave reviews from friends and social media. Lastnight we were not disappointed! Superb food! Easily the best hot dog I've ever had! Flavour combinations of food are delicious and the coating on the cauliflower wings and Mother Clucker burger is awsome! Drinks menu was a nice surprise......enjoyed a classic fave cocktail and my first ale, after some advice from the friendly waiting staff! Will for sure be back! Awsome to have this on our doorstep!

I stayed a night in this hotel - which I have stayed at before, several years ago. I came for a weekend event which I was hosting down the road - work related. On this occasion they were hosting an event in the function room the night I was there. This large space is directly next to the 4 bedrooms. The male owner showed me to my room. It was cold so I asked him to warm it up, which he did. The room was basic and oit dated, but after a long drive I was relieved to have my own space. I invested in this hotel because I needed a peacefull space before an early start to work the next dsy. This room was anything but peacefull. The raucous party in the function room went on into the early hours of the morning. It honestly sounded like the party was happening in my bedroom! I was so surprised that nobody thought to even warn me/let me know in advance about this event and really tried to block it out with earplugs. But it was too loud! I very reluctantly went down to the bar to ask if I could change rooms to a quieter space. I was literally in my Pj's feeling vulnerable. A surly woman with heavy black makeup on - one of the manager's I believe was unsympathetic & honestly unkind. She was actually nasty about it. She told me I was stupid for booking somewhere on a Friday night! I was so shocked and saddened. Another younger man was kinder and had compassion. He asked if I wanted to travel 20 minutes to another hotel - a sister hotel. The idea of packing up all my belongings at 10pm at night was not appealing as I had a very early start in the morning. I ended up riding it out. In the morning I discovered that my electric shower didn't work. There was no one around at this time to ask for help with this. They leave the hotel completely un-manned overnight. No staff at all. As I was packing my belongings into my car the owner pulled into the car park. I recognised him. I told him of my experience in a very kind, grounded manner. I was expecting an apology of sorts. What I got was a man who argued with me about everything I had experienced. He made it personal and like the woman behind the bar there was an air of nastiness and threat in his nature. This was the worst part of the whole experience- the response from the owner. I left this hotel feeling sad & shocked and a frightened by this man. I write this, not as a personal vendetta agaist The Sands hotel. That is not in my nature at all. It is so that other travellers, particularly solo womfn do not experience such an unfriendly, unsympathetic and overall unpleasant experience as I did. Really it's not worth it. I asked to have a refund. I paid £85 for this experience. So far none of my money has been refunded. I really gope The Sands is able to look closely at how they treat their customers and perhaps embrace a more respectful, compassionate and kind attitude towards them going forward.
