The Burntisland Sands Hotel in Fife

Booked dinner here and timed it perfectly as they have just launched a new menu ! There are still some of the popular old favourites, but some exciting new additions. Well worth the visit - I had cauliflower pakora with mango chutney to start and followed this with beef enchiladas- absolutely delicious ! I have to say , I was tempted by the mackerel pate , the Korean pork bun and the Scottish rarebit - but they’ll have to wait for the next visit .

My husband and I took his Mum here for lunch yesterday and it was delicious as always. It was very busy but the staff were excellent under pressure. The garlic mushrooms starter was amazing as were the haddock and the lasagne. Looking forward to our next visit.

Excellent service here, particularly from the young girl with the blonde hair. It was very busy and she was clearly over worked but still managed to serve us with a smile and meet all our needs and all the demands of my awkward husband and my hard to handle children. I will definitely return. The steak pie was also good. I'd recommend this. Also the pavlova for dessert was delicious.

Food was very good! Top quality ingredients lovely meal. The young man that served us was brilliant! Definitely be back!

First time we have stayed here. Nice friendly welcome on arrival. Dinner was fantastic. Room was nice and clean. Very comfy bed. We will definitely stay again.

Went to the Sands tonight for their specials Tapas night. Food is usually amazing but tonight was even more so! Brilliant choices, value and quality! 8 adults sat down to an amazing meal . Every course was brilliant but the tortilla was my favourite. If this special continues it’s a must to try!

We have recently visited this establishment on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. The buffalo chicken wings are up there as some of the best we have ever tasted. We draw out our lunches so much to take our time to really enjoy the delicious, fresh food on offer. Always new specials on offer at reasonable prices. A big thank you and congratulations to the owners, management and the hard working staff. We will be back again and again.

We have been here a few times for brunch and lunch and the menu selection is pretty decent and good quality food, best place to go in Burntisland.

Terrible Staff. Service was terrible and didn't get what I asked for. The owner has a very good friend that comes here and shouting of his head saying we are best friends making a right fool of him self, and his spite flying all over people's food. Do not recommend this place.

This was our second visit in two weeks and we again had an outside booth. Staff organised the lighting and heating for us and it was perfect. Food was exactly what we wanted, well presented and served. Young serving staff were being well trained and polite.

Popped in after a day out visiting St Andrews on way back home. Food had stopped being served at 3pm. We arrived at 3.15 and the lovely polite lady behind the bar said she would ask the chef if still ok to get food. Being a chef I thought the answer would be a big no, but true to his profession he stayed open to do us food that was very good. Credit to you all 👍

Stayed for one night with my family. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind, the food was good and the hotel had a lovely quaint atmosphere. My mother and granny were very happy, had a great experience here.

I was there on a very windy afternoon and found the indoor bar quite cozy. It seemed to be a family-run place and was both efficient and friendly. They cheerfully went above and beyond by mailing a special water bottle that I accidentally left there. I live in the US and had already left Burntisland, so returning to get it was not an option for me. That simple act of kindness speaks volumes about the character of the place and its people. The drinks were also quite good 😊.

Disappointing. The dishes we ordered arrived in a few minutes. I did wonder if the ‘traditional steak and ale’ pie had been filled with tinned stewed steak, it had a wafer thin layer of puff pastry on top. The chips were ok but there was not many and there wasn’t a lot of the frozen mixed veg either. My friends haddock and chips was ok. Pavlova turned out to be two small ready made meringues accompanied by cream and a few berries with a squirt of raspberry sauce. Ok but we hoped for the genuine article! And I could be wrong but I think the prices on their website are out of date.

Very good burger, onion rings and chips and excellent service with a smile. My wife's chicken with haggis was good too. Enjoyable atmosphere too.

Great veggie sandwich, friendly staff, cleanliness, busy, good music. It has outdoor seatings and playground. We will like go back again.

What an amazing return to the pub! Wow,what a great spot for catching up with pals and family.Views good,food good,staff amazing. Cormac looked after us all day and is a great new addition to the already amazing team !

Surprised my mum with an afternoon tea from Sands after hearing such great reviews about them. I definitely wasn’t disappointed! The sandwiches were really fresh and the cakes & scones were delicious. My mum loved it! Would definitely order again and recommend to others.

We visited the Sands for lunch on a recommendation. Social distancing was being well observed however one waitress wore her mask under her nose for the entire time we were there. The food was excellent and the service friendly. My husband has been shielding so he was a bit concerned by the waitress flouting the rules. Under normal circumstances its a lovely place for lunch but not at the moment if youre being carfeul.

We arrived on Thursday 22nd October , we had a few drinks in the beer garden. We then had our meal which was excellent good sized portions. A few more drinks then up to our room which was very cozy and clean. In the morning we went for breakfast full Scottish absolutely no complaints. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, we would recommend this hotel to our friends.

Waited over an hour for a lunch to come at a fairly quite time. No explanation or apology. Food when it did come was pretty average. New outdoor space is just a large tent in the carpark with a lot of tables squeezed in. Wont be back.

Recommended by friends so the two of us stopped for Sunday lunch on way to Kirkcaldy. The restaurant is NOT in Burntisland High Street but it's very near the beach - a good location if you want to make an afternoon of it. Service was exceptionally and inexplicably slow...... We waited more than 30 minutes after our first course (chicken liver pate - OK but unexceptional) before asking at the bar what had happened with our main course. Reply (somewhat disinterested) was "I'll just check with the kitchen. I suspect it is the trout."There was no shortage of staff working the floor and serving at the bar - nor was the restaurant busy. The restaurant is light and breezy with good spacing between tables and various levels and rooms to sit including an outside space. Staff were friendly but somewhat inattentive/uncaring which is a shame. The food is unexceptional in terms of what is on offer - gastro pub style (no scampi) with a daily special fish dish or Sunday roast. We had chicken liver pate to start - an edible somewhat small portion served in a weird thin laboratory-style Kilner jar.The special fish dish on this Sunday was "Trout with brown butter" which was delicious with grilled long-stem broccoli, baby sweet corns and broiled baby potatoes. Fish and chips - our other main course - was hot but average although the chips were generous, well-cut and tasty.We had pints from the bar - there was a red ale on tap (the only guest tap) and the usual selection of other standard drinks.Service was so inexplicably slow we didn't have time to have coffee/tea so can't comment.This is a restaurant that has the potential to up its game - with friendly and sufficient staff let down by a mediocre menu and poorer than average concern for customer care.

I took my dad here for lunch and staff were extremely helpful regarding wheelchair access. Lunch was delicious and my dad said they were the best chips he'd ever tasted. An accolade indeed from 95 year old!

Nice decor, friendly staff. Easy to park and space for kids to play. Sanitising in place and good array of food.

Don't be out off by the outside appearance of this hotel, the inside is roomy and bright. Stopped here for lunch and it was so busy but the staff found us a table. Food was really good. Nice fish and chips and the soup and lasagne were delicious. Service was first class, the staff were so friendly and courteous.

We booked in for a meal on our last night in Burntisland. The hotel is big & airy inside and very nice. The meal of Steak & Ale Pie with vegetables & chips and the Catch of the Day which was Haddock & Prawns on rice was very nice. We also had a couple of drinks each.

First meal out after six months of cooking at home and it did not disappoint. We opted to sit outdoors and the weather was kind to us. Friendly engaging service from all of the staff and the food was great. The sirloin steak was just perfect - medium rare and so easy to cut and enjoy. Excellent blue cheese sauce, thick but fluffy chips, big crunchy battered onion rings and the tomato and mushrooms to seal the deal. Also shared chicken wings as a starter - when they say buffalo hot sauce, they really mean hot. Very spicy but very tasty providing you can handle the hit from the chilli. Jason and the team at Sands did a lot for the community throughout lockdown, so it’s brilliant to see them getting so much custom now. Very pleased to support them tonight too and hope to be more frequent visitors in future.

Had family dinner here and really enjoyed it. We all had just 1 course but it was very good service and food. We sat inside but no problems with distancing etc

Three of us had a lovely lunch today. We sat inside and I was most impressed in how the staff dealt with ordering, bringing out the food, in fact all areas of service in this difficult time of restrictions. It was so good to be out and about and relax here..we will be back

We had the afternoon tea platter which was delivered to the house at the promised time.Great selection of sandwiches ( I chose to cut the crusts off - personal taste). Good selection cakes - nice bite sized morsels. A scone per person - I warmed them up before eating but the were lovely and fresh - they came with jam and butter so I bought some clotted cream for the 'cream tea' feel.Would recomend

Just picked up our Afternoon Tea platter. Great selection of sandwiches scones and jam, and cake tasters, Tremendous value for money, and staff were first class in exercising social distancing with hand sanitiser gel available in the reception area.Will treat ourselves to a meal out here after lockdown.

We got an afternoon tea from here last week and it was fantastic. Quality fillings in the sandwiches and tasty cakes. Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little treat.

Testament to this hotel / restaurant in these ‘scary corona times ‘ the place was very busy. We had a fantastic meal. A great sirloin steak and a monkfish dish off the specials menu - the place was buzzing - impressed to note all the restaurant staff were wearing plastic gloves - very reassuring they are taking the current situation seriously - welcoming friendly service - as usual

Waiting time unacceptable however may have been worth the wait if the food had bee good but oh no it was disgusting% the hot starter was cold- main course vile% the deserts felt as if they had just come out of the freezer..... the plates were freezing as were the deserts% inedible . On a good point the coffee and tablet was good

What a fantastic day we had at The Sands. Arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon and never left until 11 at night. The food was absolutely amazing. I ate from the Xmas menu and it was cooked to perfection. The salmon starter was fantastic and the turkey dinner was the best I’ve ever tasted. I had to cancel my Xmas pudding for strawberry mousse as I was hoping it would be smaller portion. It was delicious. We stayed in the main dining room and enjoy the evening disco. The DJ was very entertaining and included our party in on most of the games. Thanks also to the friendly girls that shared our evening. Jason and Vicky are fabulous hosts. Nothing was a problem to them. I wish you all the very best and I hope you get all the credit you deserve for all your hard work. Can’t wait to see you again. Thanks Dolina

Place is noisy and tables are very close together. Food was not hot and the vegetables were hard. If I had closed my eyes and ate the food I would not have known what I was eating. It all tasted the same and not good. Service was chaotic and haphazard. Very disappointing.

The food, drinks and service were excellent, as this was the first time we had been there and were not disappointed with the whole meal Definitely worth return visits.

Food was okay. Shame about the dour faced elderly waitress who made us feel she was certainly putting herself out by serving us. My dad is slightly deaf and wears hearing aids. She was losing her patience with him until I explained that he couldn’t hear her. Whenever we asked her for anything it appeared to annoy her. Won’t be bothering with the Sands restaurant again.

Food was really quite good. I was pleasantly surprised. Meal with friends on a Tuesday night so that might explain two staff trying to do everything so I had to wait at the bar for drinks while waitress cleared tables. However the staff were really nice and good fun. I would certainly look forward to going again.

We visited last week to celebrate our daughters 18th Birthday with a lunch for family and friends. We had the small dining room to ourselves which was great. Food was excellent as always & the red wine kept flowing. The staff were fantastic & couldn’t do enough for us.

We booked this at the last minute after a day on the beach and glad we did. The food was lovely and the children's meals were much better quality than most places we have visited.

Seven of us ate at The Sands, food was delicious, service perfect and surroundings had a good vibe, would absolutely recommend popping in & we will all definitely be back.

We came across on the internet that the restaurant at this hotel offer a Seafood Buffet Dinner every month, on the first Friday of the month. It was located very close to the beach and the hotel had its own car park.

Ordered breaded fish and chips which came fish over done and mushy peas were cold.nobody came to ask us whether everything was ok.

First time we visited couldn’t fault the food! But visiting again yesterday for a 2nd time was horrendous, there was a black hair in my macaroni, and in my partners food there was also another black hair, absolutely vile!!! I won’t be back and I suggest you get your kitchen staff to wear hair nets. I know for a fact we wouldn’t of been the only customers to have hair in our food yesterday... and that’s for sure.

Was visiting family... room was lovely, i had such a great sleep, had a full Scottish breakfast and it was fantastic..I needed a taxi but couldn’t get one so a staff member taken me to station even taken my suitcase for me to platform. Such lovely people. Thank you so much

Great food and great choice of drinks. Staff are very attentive. Can get very busy at times. Making great efforts to put on interesting events like seafood nights, gin tasting and beer festivals.

Burntisland is devoid of anywhere for evening meals....pizza or ice cream as an evening option not the best.. And that's it for the High Street. Went to this venue and as ravenous was lured by the authentic curry claim.. So ordered the chicken curry... Which arrived in under 5 mins.. So obviously a micro wave job.. On arrival, no steaming dish and the balti type container was cold to the touch, and sure enough the meat was tepid and drowned in an almost inedible salty muck! To be fair the waitress asked how bit was and after owning up I was given a 50% discount on the food order.. But you only get one chance to make a good first impression, and this was awful... Won't be back.

Stayed here for one night on the Fife Coastal Path. Arriving early for check-in my room wasn’t ready, but I was made welcome and invited to have a drink in the bar (despite being sweaty in running kit). Friendly locals engaged in a bit of chat.

This is my local but I'm so so glad it is!! The food is fabulous and the service and atmosphere great. Lots to choose from and great for adults and kids alike. Love it!

We have visited this pub on a few occasions now as a family and most recently for their special Father's Day "Gentleman's Afternoon Tea".

I was visiting Burntisland with my son and decided to pop in for a quick bite to eat. It was around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. Most of the tables were taken, but the staff managed to squeeze us in. Food was good, I had a burger and my son had the tomato pasta.The place was a lot smaller than I was expecting, but was clean and the staff friendly. Food took a little while to arrive, but luckily we were not in a rush and the restaurant was busy afterall. Would visit again if we are in the area.

We ate here twice on a recent holiday. The staff found us a table at short notice on both occasions although they were quite busy. The food was very good and served with smiles and friendly chit chat. We would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for somewhere to eat in Burntisland.

Very average food at not so average prices, my business partner had chicken curry which he described as crap. I had the steak pie which wasn’t the worst but I’ve had better.

I was really looking forward to visiting this place after all the good reviews I read but it was very disappointing.

I attended a Speakers club dinner held at the Sands Hotel the meal was superb I had starters of Crab and prawn salad with curried mayo with mango and chili salad, followed by Slow roasted pork belly creamed celeriac baby carrots with burnt apple and cyder reduction finishing with Pot au chocolate with carnalised banana and expresso icecream totally delicious.

Really good well cooked pub grub for lunch. Large portions; friendly service; clean and smart small hotel. Worth a visit. Plenty of parking.

Decided to try The Sands as we had heard great reports under new management.

I recently stayed in room 3 of the Burntisland Sands hotel while visiting friends in the area. The Burntisland Sands is a combination of pub, restaurant, and small hotel of 4-5 rooms on the upper level. Room 3 faced the rear of the building and faces the Firth of Forth. Room 3 is perfect for one person (cozy for two people) with a full/queen sized bed (double), a small wardrobe and a clothes dresser. The en suite bathroom was small (by American standards) but contains a full sized soaking tub and European shower (see picture). Both the room and bathroom were clean and had an electric kettle for hot drinks.

Not been in since new management took over, the food is average pub grub, convenient for locals to pop in as not anywhere else near by, we did enjoy our meals. Prices are of average with other places.

Burntisland SWI held their Christmas Party in The Sands for the third year in a row. As usual the food was delicious. Some of our group opted for smaller portions, but everyone enjoyed what they had. On a personal note, this was my 3rd meal in The Sands in as many weeks. It is definitely my place of choice for a lovely meal in Burntisland.

Our group of 4 had two Sunday roasts, a burger and fish and chips. Very well presented, tasty and reasonably priced. Highly recommended!

I visited this gem of a place for the first time (27.10.18) with a bunch of friends (12 in total) from Edinburgh and can honestly say we were not disappointed. We were made very welcome by the owners and we were all looked after by all the staff who were fantastic (special shout out to Gerry and June) The food was excellent, very tasty and great portions (compliments to the chefs.)

Visited this little place as part of a group. Service was great considering there was 12 of us we all ate at the same time! Food was delicious. Prices very reasonable. Everyone was very friendly. Will definitely be back. Thank you!

Visited here whilst visiting family back in June and wow wow wow this places sucks.

We drove into the car park during the summer and left due to a group of youths standing outside smoking. We since heard the food was good so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed the service and food were very good and they offered a decent alcohol free beer for the drivers All in all good value for money with a good choice of mains for vegetarians. Definitely will be back.

Not been here for a while because the menu had become very uninspiring. The recent changes have changed the "feel" of the restaurant. The menu is very limited and needs enhancing. We managed to find something this time, which was delicious, but I doubt we'll be back any time soon.

The B&B; couldn’t be better!!! The hosts are very approachable and friendly. The room is clean and very comfy bed, a plus are the views. Even if the pub is under the rooms, it’s quiet. Food is very good, good choices for breakfast.

I booked this hotel based on its website and reviews. It has not disappointed. The welcome was friendly and the room comfortable. I arrived on Sunday at the end of a family fun day. The place was busy but I was able to have a great meal.

My husband and I come to Sands quite regularly with family and friends and are never disappointed.We always have good food and great service.

We dropped in here last week for dinner. The place was busy and the waitress clearly struggled to cope. We both had a main course special; very reasonably priced, nice sized portions and very tasty too. The down side was we had to wait 35 minutes for the mains to arrive. We queried the waitress who assured us the delay was because all meals are freshly cooked! We did not order suites. Cause of the slow service.

The staff was very friendly and the food was wonderful. We are from the United States, and I had not had steak and whiskey pie before. It was amazing....a very light and airy crust over steak and whiskey tender comfort food. Would go back on a heartbeat!

Hadn't been to hotel for a very long time,wanted to celebrate our daughters exam results,phoned day before to book a table ,after arriving ,waited over 15 mins past our time. Once shown to our table,30 minutes later ,waitress took our order,place was very busy understandably,then the long waite for the starter. Chicken pate,the lid of the jar had rust marks on it and the jar was chipped. Took absolutely forever for main meal,my husband ordered the fish,explained he didn't want salad or any garnish ,PLAIN, not to be ,mushy peas added,asked to to sort it out,they did,obviously took the fish of one plate to another,as it still had mushy peas under the fish.They took the fish of the bill.

Taken over recently and had a revamp. Now have a children’s menu and a children’s corner which is great for entertaining the little ones whilst waiting. Food was quick, hot and a good choice.

Popped in for lunch and enjoyed a very friendly welcome. Staff chatty and pleasant. Nice variety on the menu of which we enjoyed the haggis, neeps & mash. The ham and cheese board was a huge hit and thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely be visiting again, soon😊.

A combination of a warm friendly welcome, prompt service and good quality food resulted in a very enjoyable lunch.

After reading quite good reviews for food at this hotel we felt rather disappointed after our visit last Saturday - we were put out in a back room that felt like an over flow room - it was extremely warm ... two of us ordered the haddock chips and mushy peas with tartare - when it came thee were garden peas (not mushy peas - which I love with fish & chips) and no tartare - we asked for tartare sauce and by the time they bought it my meal was half finished .... my partner had vegetable fajitas which were not very nice at all ... no sizzling - just bits of vegetables with Jarred spice sprinkled over them !! Service was very abrupt too ... wouldn’t go back :-(

Our v extended family often visit for a drink whenever passing through, however this time a few of us stayed on to eat , and very glad we did, I Was informed by a few that this was the best steak they had ever had !!! And their plates we practically licked clean :-) great night and the rest of the family will be around soon

Had a lovely meal with my dad, starters were amazing..have the haggis and black pudding bon bons..what a treat! Caesar salad was perfect as was my dads Pavlova...it was huge. Great menu. Staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely be back soon 😅🍺

We visited on a couple of days during a stay at Pettycur Bay. The food is great and we can particularly recommend the Thursday night steak deal, perfectly cooked and very good value. Friendly service and within a quick walk from the caravan park. These 'numpties' will certainly return.

Restaurant located it seemed in the hotel bar area, only spotted a few tables, but busy enough, decent atmosphere. Staff were pleasant, and friendly. Food was a decent, hot, presentable, but I would say the overall value for money wasn't good. We paid a lot for our meals, in relation to the portion sizes, I think we could have got more for our money.

I eat and drink here often. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. I enjoy sitting in the bar area for the atmosphere and I like how they’ve started hosting events like gin tastings and live music. My friend is vegan and she was impressed with the new menu options. My food is always well presented and tastes great. My go-to is the chicken burger and will always go for cocktail of the month. Would recommend.

My aunt, Mum and I enjoyed a lovely lunch today. Made very welcome by our waiter Daniel. Lovely selection on the menu with specials on the board. We shared bruschetta as a starter which was so fresh and delicious. We then had mains of chicken and leek pie, hake with Thai veg and mac cheese with added chorizo and jalapeños. All of the dishes were beautifully presented and delicious we thoroughly enjoyed them well done to Peter the chef we’ll definitely be back.

Popped in to escape the rain while out on a walk and 3 hours later........... Great friendly folk fantastic food and good located beer garden. A bit like the old days where you went in to a pub and everyone spoke to each other. Great selection of drinks and a great menu. Tip try the mussels, and also the sharing meat and cheese platter not to be missed, but beware you need to be starving cos portions are huge
