Gilvenbank Hotel in Fife

Stayed here recently for one night. Room was comfy, nice hot shower, plenty of parking. I didn't eat there so can't comment on the food, but they didn't serve breakfast until 8am which was no good as I had to be away by 6:30am

The room had only just had a refresh so looked good and was very well set out and comfortable 👌 the service was excellent with a friendly smile as you walked in. It only lost 1 star due to evening meal

My sister and i stayed a week ..lovely staff ..nice food ..really nice rooms. There was a little problem with the power in our room which was quickly sorted out..we loved our stay here and would definately stay again xx

The location was good, food and drinks were reasonable and a good price. The room was of a good size, the grouting in the bathroom could have done with clean. The sealant had gone off so when you turned on the shower the water just went all over the floor. The bed definitely needed a new mattress, it was very uncomfortable. Booking in was a bit slap dash, the receptionist had to get help to deal with a multiple booking. It's not a place I would return to.

The team was generally friendly and welcoming, and after a few issues in check-in, we were happy with the location. Food was good and breakfast was well worth it. However, I got the impression it is going through a refurb, so I don't want to be too harsh, but just let down by lots of little things all easy to fix. The biggest annoyance for us was thay we were on a ground floor room with two huge almost full length windows next to the carpark, but as the rooms have no nets or blinds just pull curtains everyone could see us in the room unless you pull the curtains which you don't want to do but you don't exactly want to relax in the room with your pjs on with everyone walking past looking at you or standing outside your window smoking and chatting on phones. As it was June and hot, you want to enjoy the evening not shut the curtains at 7pm so you have some privacy and as we had no fan we wanted a window open just to help with the heat. We had to change in the bathroom, and the bathroom door was faulty, so it didn't shut unless you wedged a door stop to prevent it from opening. The room was never automatically refreshed and no door card to ask for towels so we had to ask for towels and toilet roll twice. Dirty glasses and mugs were ignored, and after 3 days, we took them all back to the bar. Rubbish bin was only removed on day 4. All minor things but easy fixes, which could have made it a high 4 in ratings.

Massive family room, looked newly decorated. Check in was easy, room was clean and everything we needed. Breakfast was outstanding, the staff couldn't be more accommodating, putting us infront of the TV and putting Bluey on for our little boy to keep him entertained! Food was lovely and a great continental option as well. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely quiet place with nice modern rooms

I didn't stay in the hotel, only went for lunch! I'm a very fussy eater and I enjoyed the freshness of the food. The staff were friendly, helpful and polite. There is ample parking. Being away from the hustle and bussle of the town centre the atmosphere felt relaxing and not rushed. Prices are very reasonable. I would highly recommend a visit.

Food was amazing and service 5* what more do you want.

Would like to start of with the staff in the hotel and restaurant were very pleasant the main issue we had was the room and bed , the door wouldn’t close properly and the bed was way past usage we had the most uncomfortable nights sleep ever , was told they’re doing refurbishment in my opinion certain rooms shouldn’t be in use when this badly run down . We were in room 1.

Great place to take the family.

Overnight stay, room was perfectly nice, we were in one of the new rooms looking out onto bushes but sadly fair bit of litter which spoiled area. Had dinner in the restaurant which was lovely. Sadly the hotel let themselves down with a lack of flexibility or accommodation for breakfast. At check in we were told breakfast was from 8am, we needed to be away by then as my husband was running a local half marathon.. The day manager on Sat 11th was helpful and said he was hopeful the night manager could arrange something even if it was a takeaway breakfast for about 7.30-7.45. We enquired with the night manager when he was on duty and it was a straight out no, breakfast is 8am. No attempt to help whatsoever. So no breakfast even though we paid for bed and breakfast. However, to be honest, no conversation could be held over the extremely loud music act in the bar/restaurant. A pity as one person’s attitude let down their team.

Stayed for a long weekend, it was in the process of being renovated didn't cause any problems, bed was absolutely massive and slept like a log we had the supreme deluxe room really big and comfy, some mould in the bathroom crisp crumbs in bedside draw and cobwebs hanging from ceiling but again nothing really to complain about i was more concerned not having any drinking facilities in our room but was eventually rectified. Breakfast served between 8-9 weekend but between 7-8 weekday that's to early for me especially if your on holiday staff pretty good to be honest friendly and polite I think the bar manager was called evlin she was lovely great smile and personality and her little helper who served me and the wife was a little cutie. The only thing I would suggest is changing the direction of the spotlight out front i woke up and thought it was daylight but it was 3 in the morning 😆

Matresses are pop springed but the brekky is half cop Erin and Logan the staff helpful beyond beliefe top people to have working for the company deserve a payrise 100%

Well, I'd give the room a 3 maybe but, when we arrived, it was bloody freezing!! Turned the heater on which felt like a very old person tryin to blow hot air so, we left to go get supper & hoped it would be warm for us coming back... How optimistic we were & how disappointed we wound up🤣 Eventually the room het up The bed itself was 2 singles pressed together, so there was no snuggling to be had thanks to the hard centre, don't know if that's a good thing or not for some people, but I'm a snuggler😜 The beds were comfy enough though, the pillows were good also Some... Questionable stains on our sheets but, had to sleep nonetheless 🤷🏽‍♂️ The bedside cabinets had crumbs inside their drawers... Tasty... Everything else about the room though was... Well, it was a room, did the job. No hangers though for jackets etc, strangely found that odd🤣🤷🏽‍♂️ The bathroom, my God, I thought I let my bathroom get grimey & disgusting sometimes but wow, this bathroom makes mine look like it should be in a magazine of the best bathroom's ever😂😂 The shower though, wish I could give that 5 stars 🤣🤘🏼 The TV has plenty channels😁 And finally, when we arrived, it was supper time so, no one was on the reception at all, understandably, but even when standing at the restaurant door no one would take us on... But they were busy so, I get it But checkin out was quick & easy😁

Booked two rooms as was with family. Rooms were clean and comfortable, with a WC toilet provided in one of the rooms. Those mentioning no hair dryer just didn't look in the rooms thoroughly enough, as my room had a hair dryer in one of the drawers. A kettle, coffee and milk was provided in both rooms. Service was excellent, with staff being friendly. They gave us extra pillows and duvets when kindly requested, and although there were no hot breakfast options on the morning, I can't complain as there was a variety of cereal options, orange and apple juice, butter and jams with tea and coffee readily available. Toast was plentiful with you being able to ask for more if you needed. Couldn't complain about the prices as I got both rooms, breakfast provided in under £200.

A boxing day meal ,a great value festive menu ,helpful staff a really varied menu ,all for £19.95 ,for three courses ,can't praise the hotel enough

A large party attended a party night on Saturday 2nd December. The whole room was so packed that you could not speak to anyone other than the person next to you. The service was very poor and the staff were not properly trained, hardly old enough to be there. The food was only passable, the one item really edible was the turkey. The bar and managerial staff were rude and abrupt. The only good thing about the evening was the DJ and the people we were with. I would definitely not recommend this hotel for a party night.

We were out for a family meal last week...couldnt fault the food the service or the staff...young waitress called sky really stood out too.....was an excellent night 😎💪

Food was good and not expensive. Tables where clean and tidy, when food came to the table was piping hot.

The food was good, the bar was pleasant. The hotel rooms left a lot to be desired - the bathroom needed a deep clean, lots of black mould around bath and shower; 2 (ex shop) coat hangers isn't really sufficient in a double room; duvet barely covered mattress which led to a poor night sleep. Breakfast seemed to be limited choice wise (no fruit, no yoghurt, no porridge???) but as there were no menus available it was hard to say. The staff,for the most part, were friendly.

Rooms were nice and clean - though no hairdryers available even though the website said the rooms did have them. Staff were very friendly, polite and approachable. Very accommodating, breakfast was fantastic and again, staff were super helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely recommend this place and will be going back.

My Family of 16 enjoyed a fantastic High Tea there last Sunday . Starting with toast tea or coffee . For the main meal what a great choice to pick from Roast of the day,Curry ,lasagne burgers and lots more and everyone said was delicious . Next there was a plate of warm scones with butter ,jam and cream and plate of small cakes and plenty to taste a few of you were able to. The while meal was fantastic .well worth a visit.

The place is clean, the staff excellent and the food delicious. The rooms are OK however, the mattress in our room was, putting it mildly, knackered. Come on Gilvenbank Chang those mattresses.

Had my wedding reception here, couldn't fault them in anyway, staff so pleasant and helpful nothing to much for them. Liam and Stuart were fantastic from start to finish with all arrangements , fantastic venue for any occasion, definitely recommend.

Rooms a bit basic and walls very thin but 1st class service from all the staff

stayed for the weekend as a wedding near by. Ruined the weekend. Room was old, floor squeaked every step i took, stains on the wall, taps had silicone rotting away, tiny tele, no natural light as massive brush IN front of the window. Shower was over the bath but no bath matt which resulted member of our party fell and has a massive bruise on bum and arm. Also Saturday there was pumping music from downstairs, looks like the hotel has random party nights and fail to let guests know. Music was banging until at least 12am!! it was horrendous! No apology from the hotel reception either. I can honestly say i would never in a million years stay here again!! :( :( :(

Very pleasant place to stay. Rooms are basic but clean. Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Beds are pretty uncomfortable. But all in all I enjoyed my stay as it was for a wedding.

Walls are paper thin, so be prepared to be woken at 7am as this is when breakfast begins. Very early breakfast time for those on holiday 7am till 8am

Myself and husband stayed on Friday 25th august to see elvis tribute act , the room we had was the honeymoon suite, it was lovely, clean and fresh, the staff at the hotel were lovely nothing was to much trouble wendy on reception was out standing, booked us in and also served us at breakfast which was lovely full continental also full Scottish tea/coffee and toast, if you haven’t been you must try it , even if it’s for lunch, the food is delicious, the range of drinks/ cocktails is really good, we will definitely be back and would highly recommend, thanks to all the staff especially wendy for a lovely day/night 💕

Just went for a few beers with my brother. Staff were friendly and accommodating to the point were we chose to stay until closing time. Nice atmosphere, nice beer, ok prices.😀👍🍺🍺🍺

The look of the hotel is beautiful, but, most of the staff are rude and don’t know what they’re doing. We booked a double room, which was actually 2 single beds pushes together & 1 very flat pillow, when we asked if they had any more we were told they had no extra’s Breakfast was greasy and very salty, the toast came out 40 minutes before the actual food and when we asked for fresh the lady just looked at us, took the toast and walked away - by the time we had fresh toast we’d almost finished our meal When we complained about this - they said they’d already had multiple complaints about her.. Over the weekend they had 2 wedding parties on, the first night was ridiculously loud and we were put right above the party… kept awake till 2am after a 4 hour drive isn’t what we expected. The 2nd night wasn’t as loud but even still we didn’t get to sleep until past midnight, so why not put the party guests above the party? They weren’t very apologetic about it either. Overall wouldn’t stay here again

Stayed the one night at Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes. Room was small, mould on bathroom ceiling, rather dated. This would have been a nice room 20 years ago but it looks tired, no attempts at upkeep whatsoever. Shelf about clothing rail looked as though someone had started to paint it white but didn’t complete it. Door was hard to open due to thick carpet. Beds were so uncomfortable, springy and just not pleasant to sleep in. 3 star scottish tourist board award outside… this is definitely dated! Breakfast service between 9-10, staff were moving tables and chairs at 9.40-9.45 ish. This was really off putting, it is only a 1 hour slot for breakfast, this really could have waited until after 10am when breakfast service was finished. For what i paid for the room ( online booker) £70 it really wasn’t worth it, maybe £40 and that’s me being fair. To the manager- look at the small details, the chair behind reception the chair arms have black tape - this doesn’t look good. Milk for breakfast, keep it chilled with ice or something it was just on the counter top. Check room 12 out, see what you think of the bed, put on the shower,is the shower head well supported?. Look around the bathroom, do you see the mould? Just small things that could be improved for the better.

Spent Mother’s Day here this year,won’t be doing it again! Food was cold,sent 2 dishes back,beef would have soled your shoes,veg undercooked,they even managed to serve a pot of cold tea!! Don’t even know how you do that,definitely not worth the money,no repeat business from us,very disappointing!!!

Popped in on Friday for the steak night deal. Steak was fantastic and cooked to perfection. Wine wasn't bad either 😁 Great value would highly recommend a visit 👌

Overall disappointing, We were seated quickly however, took a while to get drinks order, and when eventually served the glasses were dirty, they were exchanged with still soiled glasses. Food was served around 50-60 after arrival and although there was plenty of it, it was all just a bit bland, I had the madra but absolutely no heat to it.

Staff are friendly, but food and service was not great. -Had to ask two times for a high chair -Had to ask for a spoon for the soup -Macaroni bland -Thai curry salty -Steak pie was mush and came with frozen veg (the wee cylinder carrots), seriously!! If I wanted frozen veg, I would have just microwaved some at home... I get there are resourcing issues across the board right now, but there were only a few tables in. Serving frozen veg with a meal costing nearly £15 is unacceptable.

Enjoyed a birthday party there..it was great fun ..the disco was so much fun .. got everyone on the floor dancing and playing games...the buffet and lovely just what was needed ..hot and cold food ...stayed there overnight..room was nice ..had cereal and coffee in the morning..then had a lovely lunch .. the food is really good value ..would stay there again ...

Stayed here various times over the past twenty years. Clean rooms, great showers, food OK. Reasonable prices. Would recommend.

went to New Year's party and was very disappointed. The meal was awful. The Prosecco which we got at the start of the evening and not to see the bells in, was warm and flatThe waitresses weren't in any form of uniform,unless you count jeans and trainers.A disco and not a band was too loud and didn't really do it for me as I'm not into rave music.Overall I don't think I'll attend another one.

My husband and myself drove 7 miles today for our lunch. We have been many times over the years and selection menu has been reasonable and meals that we got were lovely. However today we noticed the whole restaurant has been revamped and so has the menu. Very limited selection for lunch menu, no choices for vegetarians or vegans. My husband had haggis Bon Bon’s and macaroni cheese, he ate it but wasn’t overly impressed. The only thing I could have was scampi, as I don’t eat red meat or cheese. The choices mainly were burgers, steak pie , mac and cheese. Anyway the Scampi came out, presentation was lovely, but it certainly wasn’t scampi, it was a rolled up kind of fish which was cold in the middle. I said to the waitress that it wasn’t scampi and it was cold, she said she would get another 1, but I declined as again I said it wasn’t scampi and it was scampi I ordered. I settled for a plate of chips, or I thought I was getting a plate of chips, they arrived on the table in a plastic basket, this was also after my husband had finished his meal. The chefs need to make sure then know the food they are serving before it goes on a menu, also need to cater for all dietary requirements.

Recently stayed in this hotel as part of a function. Check-in time was listed as being 2pm, but as of 3:30 we were unable to get to our room as apparently rooms were still being cleaned and new beds were being put in- in advance of the upcoming British Open at St. Andrews. 'Double Bed' in my room was also really two single mattresses pushed together. The rooms themselves are okay but toilet especially could be doing with a refurbishment. Condition of room really wasn't good value for money. Went for a drink in the hotel bar and had to return one pint glass after noticing that there appeared to be bits at the bottom (looked like bread of sorts?). Bar staff very apologetic (cannot fault them at all) and offered a new pint. However, on returning to my seat I noticed that the glass I had been given in fact had mould all over it. To be frank, that is absolutely disgusting. Subsequent glasses throughout the night didn't look especially clean either. Upsides; breakfast food was tasty and prices of drink items were quite reasonable. Will not be back in future and probably wouldn't recommend. Furthermore, promise of 'Free Wifi' in the hotel, no Wifi service available.

Soup was watered down no taste apple crumble had no apples and crumble was dust .mains were amazing was served by a male no finesse just plonked the food and drink down did not feel welcome .no one was serving the bar and there was at least 3 people waiting service let it down badly

We visited the gilvenbank hotel for the first time since the refurbishment for lunch and cocktails and we were so impressed! Food was excellent and cocktails were up there with the best I’ve had. Beautiful restaurant the refurb really has made the biggest difference. Staff were all lovely too served by Hazel who was friendly and attentive and the Bar man was very friendly and helpful too. Would highly recommend and will be back soon!

Although hotel is going through a refrubishment our stay was fabulous and great value for money. Basis rooms clean and comfy. Food was great quality bar food at reasonable prices and the breakfast was unforgettable both for the taste and quantity served

I took my daughter and granddaughter for lunch after lockdown. Menu was very basic. However we decided to go again, thinking the menu would have changed now being in level 0, but it was the same menu. The fish was dry, over cooked, with very little salad. This hotel used to be so busy for lunches, it was really quiet when we went in, which told a story itself. Waiter and waitress were nice and helpful. And the restaurant itself is nice. We have been visiting here regularly for years and I have to say, I’ve never seen it so quiet as it was. My advice to you Gilvenis get your menu changed or you’ll end up loosing more customers.

visit for lunch - food was good as usual and service excellent with friendly staff however a few grumblings - the sweet menu did not have any prices on it biscuits served with coffee were not on a plate they were laid on the table ice cream sundae did not have a plate under the glass therefore when putting the spoon into the glass the ice cream ran down the side of glass onto the table the ladies toilet had a mop and pail lying which was not very clean

Went out yesterday for a family birthday. The food was ok, not amazing though. The menu has been cut down, possibly due to COVID restrictions, not sure. Unfortunately we had to wait 50 mins for our food from ordering. This was 65 mins since we’d...

Well its 6 years since my last review of The Gilvenbank Hotel's restaurant. Cannot fault it. The room is comfortable and spacious. Fast, efficient and friendly service. Traditional pub grub, well cooked and presented. My wife was full of praise for the Irish Stew! Reasonable prices. The Sunday 2 course deal was £25.90 for the two of us and drinks under £9 for a large wine and a brandy & lemonade. Total bill £34.55. Good value.

Hmmm.... The food was good, but the set up was terrible and waiting times were lengthy, the waiters and waitresses worked so hard, which I think could’ve been made easier and more efficient.. So the staff went round each individual putting a hot roll on...

Visited yesterday for an early evening meal. Bit noisy but could not fault the food which was excellent. Very reasonably priced too. We asked that the steak pie be a small portion.Wouldnt like to see full sized portion because small was large.

just back from the glivenbank had a 2 course meal which started very well the haggis pakora and the nachos very nice, but tha'ts where the good stopped. i had the roast beef dinner and my wife had the slow cooked beef, my wifes beef was so dry it was hard to swallow, as for mine well there's not much you can say it was so tough you could'nt cut it never mind try and chew it, this was the worst meal we have had at this establishment but it will now be a long time till we go back because if that's the standard of the food the chef is producing i would stay away.

The crockery is not clean. When I have received milk for tea or coffee it always has bits of goodness knows what in it. My teapot was full of floaters a couple of weeks ago and I don't ever remember receiving a clean cup. This has happened far too many times to be a one-off. Not impressed with the service at all in the bar area.

Went for a lunch it was very good, service was excellent. Good variety of dishes on the menu. This is a nice place for a variety of functions.

Had lunch here for my son,s 40th. The service was extremely bad so so slow. The food is not as good as it used to be it would seem standards are slipping. We will not be returning in a hurry. Plenty other venues to choose from

Extremely disappointed with our food and service. Mistakes from start to finish. Booked for 5 and table set for 4. Kept bringing out food for 4 people and I was constantly having to ask for more. Vegetables were over cooked and soggy. Get your act together Gilvenbank. This was our family Christmas day meal and we left feeling very deflated wishing we had booked somewhere else.

The problem with Glenrothes is it lacks good places to eat and the Gilvenbank is a bit of a “back water” when it comes to a chosen place to eat although it does attract party groups due to its size and menu. Just a few friends looking for a lunch. Usual problem of somewhere to go and it was decided that the Gilvenbank might be an option. It was ok, it was fine, it was reasonable but it lacked that wow factor to demand a return visit. The place lacks atmosphere it is simply to expansive inside. Might as well sat in the car park. The staff were good and the service equally above average. The food was ok too, but the limited menu was quite average. We just felt that this huge dining area lacked any atmosphere whatsoever. I dare say it works well for big groups but there was too much lacking here when it came to a few friends for a chummy lunch. This establishment needs to realize that Glenrothes is a huge pool of would be clients so please offer something a bit more “special” but your pricing is very good.

Family break, stayed for a few nights. Rooms very comfortable and affordable.restaurant meals very good (slow cooked beef beautiful).staff always extremely helpful and polite making our stay even more enjoyable.friday night karaoke a good laugh too thanks to Graham.

Lovely stay staff were so friendly and made our stay very welcoming. Food was beautiful. We will be back

Read the reviews and check out their Facebook page - they bought a thriving hotel and are running it into the ground. Staff are shocking. Real shame as it's a nice wee hotel. Avoid.

We waited 1.5 hours for our food. Yes, you read that right! Shocking service. We waited patiently for nearly an hour for our food as it was busy. Then we grabbed a waitress to ask where our food was. It turns out the waitress who took our order hadn’t put it through. She blamed the computer, but computers don’t make mistakes - they just do what humans tell them to! We then had to re-order all our food again. At this point we cancelled our starters as we were bored waiting. We just ordered main courses which took over 30 mins to appear. Food was ok but nothing special. We were given free desserts by way of apology, but this didn’t make up for the poor service and ruined our family meal. My son also had a drink spilt all over him by a waitress. Safe to say we’ll never go back.

Stopped off for an evening meal at Gilvan Bank Glenrothes. Poor service where no one appeared to be in charge, took a long time to get served even though the dining room was not very busy.The food arrived but was cold and we sent it back, took a long time to come back and the quality was poor. We complained and the barman took a bit off the bill We will not be back, it’s Pub Grub at Hotel prices and not acceptable. Poor show Gilvan Bank, train your staff and get your kitchen in order.

Very disapointed we went for a family meal of 15 for my father in laws birthday the only course we ate together was the starter but only 3 people ordered one. Main meals were wrong and puddings had to be sent back as still frozen in the middle had to go looking for waitresses and had to go to bar to get more drinks. Food and service poor won't be back in a hurry.
