Ox & Anchor in Fife

If I win the lottery, I'm offering to pay the chefs to move to my home town. I've had posh burgers in Glasgow, Edinburgh and further afield. The food here outclassed them all. You go in and the space is pretty basic but really nicely done out, a bit like Fanny Trollopes in Glasgow. You can see the kitchen in the back. It's a very casual (lovely) atmosphere but the hard work shines through in the lovely service and the quality of the food. I had the Notorious P.I.G. burger (everything including slow cooked pork). My better half had the buttermilk chicken burger and we shared a portion of the dirty Scotsman loaded fries (and by dirty, they mean filthy, outrageously good fries with haggis, pepper sauce - whisky? cheese and crispy fried onions). The flavours are incredible. Really good food, and lots of thought has been put into it. So pleased to see a local place charge so little too, makes it open to all but it can't be easy. We love this place!

Have have been wanting to try this place since it opened, eventually we had our chance yesterday. Having no booking option we were worried that it might be an issue grabbing a table, no issues what so ever. The staff actually took time to explain the specials why having a laugh and joke with us. Although I'm not an IPA lover we picked the cider options, different but enjoyable. The food itself was absolutely bangin and presentation was up there with the likes of Bucksbar and Bloc. The burgers and loaded fries along with the hash brown specials were dam right epic. The interior and set up is well thought out and the air brushed wall mural is something you don't see often, good to see a new venture thinking outside the box. Even "The Bog" has a touch of class about it. We'll definitely be back when we visit Anstruther again so keep doing what you're doing guys.

This is the second time I've eaten here, excellent welcome and friendly staff. The menu choice is varied but basically high quality street food with regular specials too. Simple decor and straightforward service. I chose the special which was chicken kievs which comprised of 2 fried Kiev balls, served on mash with peas, amazing green sauce and crispy onions. My partner had the loaded fries with haggis, peppercorn sauce, cheese and crispy onions too. Both dishes were fab and my kievs were of a quality I'd expect in a high end restaurant. We had a soft drink and a beer and with a tip this was £30 which I think was good value for what we ate. I'll definitely be back for a third meal just I shame I'm 50 miles away.

Called in first time in anstruther Walked past the fish shops please do the same … this place is a gem . Had the best smashed burger Had fries with prawns to share ..omg the flavours awakened the taste buds . Just delicious snd so reasonably priced. Special board as well as menu These boys know how to cook !! Cannot wait to come back

I honestly am blown away with the quality of the food in this place. I have never ever tasted better burger and the chips complete with prawns and chili were to die for .

Can't fault this wee place, well seasoned meat, tasty burger and some of the best chips going. Good selection of drinks too.

Fine friendly service. Delicious smashed burger with pulled pork. Dirty chips with large juicy well cooked prawns - so delicious we ordered more! The chicken wings were beautifully crunchy with fantastic home-made barbecue sauce. Perfect alternative to Anstruther's fish & chips. My dog liked the treat too.

As always amazing food from the Ox and Anchor. Quality of the food, service, cleanliness and atmosphere is outstanding. Never been disappointed any time we have eaten here.

A casual lunch out which was fantastic. Great food in sensible portions all really flavoursome Friendly service where nothing is too much trouble and all very relaxed. The dog loved it too ! Great to see the youngsters making such a success of this

Fantastic smash burgers! Amazing buttermilk fried prawns. All washed down with a great cocktail and craft beer selection. A definite 'must visit' if in the East Neuk.

Best burgers Ive ever tasted. Good quality local ingredients and always consistantly fantastic every time I go. The specials are changed every week and all the ones Ive tasted are great. Decent portions too. I wide variety of beers to choose from as well, again all fairly local stuff. Friendly, relaxed front of house staff. Lovely people. Head chef reminded me of Gandalf but a little more grey.

We have sat in a couple of times and order takeaway here regularly. We love it! It's lovely fresh and tasty food which is something a bit different from everything else I'm Anstruther.

Love going to the Ox and Anchor. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. A great place to go with friends and have fantastic food , lots of choices on the menu. Definitely recommend.

Really tasty food, so nice to have something like this in Anstruther at last. Everything on the menu sounds so good, we’ll be back soon to work our way through it. Mike front of house was brilliant, and so kind to our two girls. And the prices are really reasonable.

Had a really amazing meal here. Ordered two burgers and dirty chips. All were off the scale good. Gutted we`re going home tmrw, would have loved a return visit. Everything on the menu sounds delicious, would love to work our way through the whole menu. Will defo be back when we next visit Anstruther.

The Flying Scotsman Burger is by far the greatest burger you will ever taste in your entire life. Phenomenal.

best food in Anstruther, lived here for 8 years eating at the same 3 restaurants all the time, didn’t realise how desperately this town needed a new restaurant. Food was amazing, very clean and staff were very friendly.

We went here for lunch I had burger and chips and my wife had prawns the food was awesome the burger was one of the best iv had in a longtime and the prawns were really fresh. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful Well worth a visit if u are in the area

Food is fab! Couldn’t fault the burgers & fries that we had. Service was quick but we were given food for another table. Once queried, it was removed and given to the correct diners but this was after our friends had picked up the bun to check the burger! The front of house staff are friendly enough but lack personality. Where’s the banter??! No meet & greet and you can’t book a table unless you are a party of 6 or more so our party of 4 had a bit of a wait for a table and there’s nowhere to stand and wait as the place is quiet small. I couldn’t find a telephone number online to call & asked staff for their number and was told there isn’t one! We will return but it’ll be for a takeaway.

How to enjoy a burger and not have it feel loaded with calories and carbs. Very good local eatery!

We had a great lunch, the seafood special, the veggie burger and some chips. The loaded chips were brilliant which made us order more. We enjoyed the service and the ambience as well. Would defo visit again.

Very poor experiende at Ox & Anchor on Shore street. We ordered the seafood curry, "special"!!, and it had almost raw potatoes and tasted as if it was microwaved supermarket food! The Fish Burger was also more batter than fish. Would never recommend to anyone, regret going there.

Food and drinks were delicious. Our first visit but will be back soon. I would really recommend The Ox and Anchor.

Staff were very polite. There was 5 of us and they pulled two tables together to allow us all to sit together.we didn't wait too long to receive our order. food was real nice.

What an experience! This is pure old fashioned, cooked to perfection soul food. Blown away by the quality of food, service and ambience. We'll most definitely be back 😎😋🍔

Was in here today with my husband and two sons. We all tried various things on the menu and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Lovely clean tables, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Will definitely be going in again next week while here on holiday. Toilets very clean and nice high pan, does make a big difference when you have arthritis. Special mention must go to chicken. So juicy and tender. Best I've had in over 60 years. Well done and thanks for locating in Anstruther to give visitors even more choice.
