Ox & Anchor in Fife

Been meaning to visit for a while after rave reviews from friends and social media. Lastnight we were not disappointed! Superb food! Easily the best hot dog I've ever had! Flavour combinations of food are delicious and the coating on the cauliflower wings and Mother Clucker burger is awsome! Drinks menu was a nice surprise......enjoyed a classic fave cocktail and my first ale, after some advice from the friendly waiting staff! Will for sure be back! Awsome to have this on our doorstep!

Great venue and lovely food, you cannot book in advance so get down early.

We enjoyed our dinner very much. Staff friendly and we had a laugh together.

Popped in and got seated straight away. Lovely range of burgers, loaded fries and fish/chips. Food was well presented and tasted delicious. Excellent value. Well worth a visit.

Small restaurant- bit quirky inside but love food. Chip portions are generous and should be shared between 2.

What a find! The food and service here are brilliant. We were staying in the area on holiday and had walked past and looked at the menu and thought we’d give it a try. So glad we did. It was that good we went back the next day for round two! Between us on the two visits we had the Bad Mother Clucker burger, the Classic Ox burger, the dirty Scotsman burger, the BBQ cauliflower wings, prawns, corn and loaded fries . Everything was delicious (including the beer!). It’s walk in, kid friendly and dog friendly and the staff were so lovely. The interior is quirky and interesting (look out for the little origami animals) and the music they play fits the setting perfectly (they were even playing Beluga Lagoon!). We will definitely be visiting again when we’re back in the area.

Fantasy casual dinner, great service and delicious food. Would never usually choose a burger place to eat but husband was deciding and it was cracking. Buttermilk chicken burger and The Scotsman Smash burger with a side of loaded fries both delicious. The Fruity IPA is also great. Only slight let down - Blue Cheese Dressing was lacking blue cheese! Service was lovely - just a nice evening - Thank You!

What’s not to like. Fabulous Burgers

We popped in for a late lunch on Sunday and were very impressed with the food and drinks. I had the loaded mac n cheese with fries and it was delicious and food came very quickly. If you're not a dog lover it's best checking through the window first as lots of dogs on our visit.

Absolutely fantastic Resturant, we arrived quite close to closing time and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. Service was brilliant and good absolutely top notch. This is the kind of place that’s well worth a special drive to visit.

Fantastic meal here! Staff were friendly, food was delicious with a menu of burgers, dogs, wings and fries with a great selection of craft beer. Prices were much than reasonable.

Whilst a modestly small venue, the atmosphere and dishes on offer had something for everyone. Travelling up to see my brother, I've been scarce and we said we would have one treat meal in the week and boy did we choose well. The Ox and Anchor had such a nice touch to it that was modern and distinguishable. I absolutely loved the names of the meals on the menu - give that person a raise! 👏 The caffeinated cocktail (according to my brother) didn't taste strong enough for what he ordered according to him, but I was more than happy with my meal, with starters and with drinks on offer. The Dirty Scotsman I believe it was called was absolutely delicious. Recommend a small party as they did well to accommodate all of us at lunch time and maybe give them a decent heads up for 8 pluses. Staff were lovely, toilet very clean and all friendly for the kiddies as well. Thank you all. Our treat meal was fantastic and stuck out as a great memory in Anstruther.

Went last summer for lunch while on holiday and really enjoyed it, so decided to visit again this year for dinner. I don’t recall any dogs in the restaurant last year but this year there was a big “dog friendly” sign outside. Slightly apprehensive, we peered in and as there was a table around the corner away from all the dogs we decided to go ahead. Big mistake! No sooner had our food arrived but a party of six with a very large, very hairy, very smelly dog sat at the table next to ours. The stench was so bad that you couldn’t enjoy the food as everything tasted of smelly dog. I felt so sorry for the wait staff trying to serve the table with this monster sprawled across the floor. A bowl of water was provided and the dog proceeded to spray water all over the floor – a major slip hazard. Then another couple arrived with 2 dogs that proceeded to snarl and bark the whole time. An absolutely awful experience. Such a shame.

So disappointed after following them since opening that their “walk ins” only policy was actually untrue. Empty tables when we arrived but “held” (in other words reserved) for others. Well then it’s not walk ins only then is it. Passed by multiple occasions in the past week so see lots of empty tables but sadly won’t return if they chose who to keep tables for. Plenty of other choices nearby

Great food with friendly, efficient service. They don't take bookings and we popped in. They didn't have a table but took our details and told us they would have one in half an hour, which they did. We went due to reading reviews and the fact that they are dog friendly. Reviews were spot on. I had wanted to try their Lobfather special but sadly they had sold out. No problem though as I had a Piggy Dug - delicious. Husband had a Classic Ox which he loved. One portion of fries between us was plenty. I like that they have an ever changing list of specials for people to try. Nice glass of wine and pint of local lager. Good value for money. We will return next time we are in Fife.

Only us in and I Don't know why! It was delicious. I had chicken tenders and the loaded fries with haggis and husband had the fish burger. All really fresh and tasty. Saved queuing for fish and chips!!

We visited on a Fri night hoping for a table as they don’t take bookings. Lovely staff member took our number and said she would call us when a table came up. We got a call about 30mins later. Lovely warm welcome had lobster roll special, burger, wings and fries all yummy. Prices are very reasonable and food is very good. Definitely worth a visit.

Popped in for a bite to eat after a long day on St Andrews beach. It was almost 8pm and it was no trouble. Had the classic ox burger and house fries. The family also ate. Burgers were delicious. Portions were good and pricing very fair considering the prices some places charge for similar. Staff were also great. Will definitely go back. Thanks

I've been meaning to visit here for ages. Formerly, these awesome folk had a food truck in Pittenweem, but so pleased, they now have a restaurant in Anstruther. I had veggie spring rolls to start with a pretty epic soya sauce dip to accompany it. I then had a burger with haggis, which was pretty outstanding, and shared fries. My girlfriend had the Fish Burger and also loved it. Honestly, it's such an awesome wee place and also a great beer selection, too. Awesome place, great food, and superb service. I definitely will be back.

My kids loved this place. It’s a pretty simple menu, burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries, but they are all done really well. We had the Scotsman dog (with haggis, shallots and pepper sauce), a plain cheese burger, chicken and corn loaded fries, haggis loaded fries and some chicken wings to share. Portion sizes were great, would flag that the burger comes without fries, so maybe be aware if a bigger appetite. That said, it was great value. The draft beer from a local Dundee brewery was very good as well. Clean restaurant, efficient service. Have already been told we are going back on our next visit!

We chanced on this lovely restaurant and are delighted that we did. We hadn’t booked, but got a table for four. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the service was great and the food delicious. Food and drink were well priced and we would certainly recommend a visit.

We had walked from Pittenweem and noticed this restaurant in a nice location facing the sea. Luckily it was very dog friendly providing treats and water for Lottie. The food was really good, I had Chicken Wings and Mary had Pulled Pork, There was a good choice of beers. The staff were great, very friendly and the food was served quickly. We will return the next time we are in the area. Excellent choice.

The Dirty Scotsman Burger is far and away the best burger I have ever tasted. Great atmosphere- loved the neon signage, very retro (try to spot the origami). Service friendly and prompt. Food freshly made from scratch; we cant wait to go back. Don't look anywhere else for food.

We turned up close to the end of lunch service with no reservation, were given a very warm welcome and a table for four straight away. The food was excellent as was the service, really great to have some unusual options on the specials menu, not run of the mill pub food. Fabulous- we will be back next time we are in Anstruther.

The best burger I've eaten in a very long time! I got the Dirty Scotsman Burger and my wife got the Notorious P.I.G. “burger” ordered. Plus a portion of homemade fries. We were both very enthusiastic about the burgers and the fries were also delicious. The atmosphere is invitingly modern and the music was to our liking. We would eat there again at any time.

Me and my wife had the best by far burger and chips. I had loaded chips with prawns wow highly recommend this place to all. Brilliant staff and brilliant food.

If you want an alternative to trad. fish and chips, this restaurant is worth a visit. I had pulled pork with red cabbage, combined with delicious BBQ sauce on chips. Partner had deep fried prawns, with chips and other sauces. Fair prices, informal atmosphere, fast service. We wish this new business well!

Wow! Hakes on a Plane and The Notorious P.I.G! Stunning quality. Didn’t resort to tonnes of salt to achieve full flavours. Wonderful service and great music too.

Popped in for a bite to eat. The girl was so helpful. I had a vegan mushroom dish. The fries were awful, overcooked I felt as tho they had been cooked more than once. AND NO MUSHROOMS on my dish

Beautiful little find... the staff were great and the food was even better!! We had a great little laugh at the names of the dishes for example their special Hokey Cokey Artichokey. We will definitely be back! The prices were extremely reasonable too.

If I win the lottery, I'm offering to pay the chefs to move to my home town. I've had posh burgers in Glasgow, Edinburgh and further afield. The food here outclassed them all. You go in and the space is pretty basic but really nicely done out, a bit like Fanny Trollopes in Glasgow. You can see the kitchen in the back. It's a very casual (lovely) atmosphere but the hard work shines through in the lovely service and the quality of the food. I had the Notorious P.I.G. burger (everything including slow cooked pork). My better half had the buttermilk chicken burger and we shared a portion of the dirty Scotsman loaded fries (and by dirty, they mean filthy, outrageously good fries with haggis, pepper sauce - whisky? cheese and crispy fried onions). The flavours are incredible. Really good food, and lots of thought has been put into it. So pleased to see a local place charge so little too, makes it open to all but it can't be easy. We love this place!

Fantastic meal, the beef and bone marrow special burger was amazing.

Have have been wanting to try this place since it opened, eventually we had our chance yesterday. Having no booking option we were worried that it might be an issue grabbing a table, no issues what so ever. The staff actually took time to explain the specials why having a laugh and joke with us. Although I'm not an IPA lover we picked the cider options, different but enjoyable. The food itself was absolutely bangin and presentation was up there with the likes of Bucksbar and Bloc. The burgers and loaded fries along with the hash brown specials were dam right epic. The interior and set up is well thought out and the air brushed wall mural is something you don't see often, good to see a new venture thinking outside the box. Even "The Bog" has a touch of class about it. We'll definitely be back when we visit Anstruther again so keep doing what you're doing guys.

This is the second time I've eaten here, excellent welcome and friendly staff. The menu choice is varied but basically high quality street food with regular specials too. Simple decor and straightforward service. I chose the special which was chicken kievs which comprised of 2 fried Kiev balls, served on mash with peas, amazing green sauce and crispy onions. My partner had the loaded fries with haggis, peppercorn sauce, cheese and crispy onions too. Both dishes were fab and my kievs were of a quality I'd expect in a high end restaurant. We had a soft drink and a beer and with a tip this was £30 which I think was good value for what we ate. I'll definitely be back for a third meal just I shame I'm 50 miles away.

Called in first time in anstruther Walked past the fish shops please do the same … this place is a gem . Had the best smashed burger Had fries with prawns to share ..omg the flavours awakened the taste buds . Just delicious snd so reasonably priced. Special board as well as menu These boys know how to cook !! Cannot wait to come back

Can't fault this wee place, well seasoned meat, tasty burger and some of the best chips going. Good selection of drinks too.

Fine friendly service. Delicious smashed burger with pulled pork. Dirty chips with large juicy well cooked prawns - so delicious we ordered more! The chicken wings were beautifully crunchy with fantastic home-made barbecue sauce. Perfect alternative to Anstruther's fish & chips. My dog liked the treat too.

Fantastic smash burgers! Amazing buttermilk fried prawns. All washed down with a great cocktail and craft beer selection. A definite 'must visit' if in the East Neuk.

Best burgers Ive ever tasted. Good quality local ingredients and always consistantly fantastic every time I go. The specials are changed every week and all the ones Ive tasted are great. Decent portions too. I wide variety of beers to choose from as well, again all fairly local stuff. Friendly, relaxed front of house staff. Lovely people. Head chef reminded me of Gandalf but a little more grey.

Really tasty food, so nice to have something like this in Anstruther at last. Everything on the menu sounds so good, we’ll be back soon to work our way through it. Mike front of house was brilliant, and so kind to our two girls. And the prices are really reasonable.

Had a really amazing meal here. Ordered two burgers and dirty chips. All were off the scale good. Gutted we`re going home tmrw, would have loved a return visit. The Flying Scotsman Burger is by far the greatest burger you will ever taste in your entire life. Phenomenal.

We went here for lunch I had burger and chips and my wife had prawns the food was awesome the burger was one of the best iv had in a longtime and the prawns were really fresh. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful Well worth a visit if u are in the area
