Roots & Seeds Cafe Bistro in Fife

Walked in just for a cake and a coffee, immediately approached for our order without even having sat down, told they were closing soon. The place smelt terrible, like dirty toilets. We ordered 2 cakes which were sickly and the smell of the plsce didn't put us in the mood for eating.

After a quick consultation of online reviews we visited ‘Roots and Seeds’ for lunch. What a thoroughly delightful experience! A pleasantly unpretentious and relaxing ambience, attentive and welcoming staff, a unique and diverse menu, and most importantly very well cooked and interesting food. The generous bowlful of soup of the day (carrot and cumin?) with seeded sourdough was delicious, the homemade and substantial root vegetable quiche equally tasty and the surprising offering of catfish empanadas were great. The decaffeinated oat milk coffee was no disappointment; all in all ‘R & S’ provided a dining experience to remember for all the right reasons. All of the above for only thirty pounds; try finding that in Edinburgh during the Festival! We really look forward to eating there again. Thanks.

I was hoping for a place to sit down and de-stress as I had been walking all day, the car was in the garage, and i was due to go on holiday, very much needed something to eat. Place was full but was told i could "sit there but for one hour". I was approached for my order when I hadnt even read the menu, approached when I wasn't halfway through the menu. The prices did look very expensive. And then I was approached maybe a third or fourth time - i hadnt sat down for five minutes at this point. So I said I would do them a favour and just leave. And their response? "Okay bye" Maybe it was because I was on my own and didnt look like I would spend much money so they were deliberately trying to get rid of me? Who knows? I don't think they did peppermint tea, but couldnt catch what they had instead because the waitress turned her head while she was talking.

We were recommended this little cafe by a lovely assistant in. BOOTS. She was not wrong. Lovely staff and delicious soup. We had leek and potato soup, which was certainly homemade. Our smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches were the best. The best in Kirkaldy!!

Stumbled upon this lovely place on a cold and rainy afternoon in Kirkcaldy. We had our dog with us and we were all welcomed by friendly staff and sat down to have some lovely food and delicious coffee. I chose the Cullen Skink which was freshly cooked and utter perfection. Our dog was given a bowl of chopped sausages. We bought two pastel de natas to take away and eat later, they were scrumptious. We will definitely all return when we are next in the area.

We were walking the Fife Coastal trail with our pooch. Kirkcaldy was an obvious stop for lunch, so we looked up dog friendly cafes/restaurants in town. This place caught my eye on google/TripAdvisor as we approached town. What a find!! Dog friendly, warm welcome, cosy and bustling. All good signs. The soup and a sandwich was just the job on the menu, although, having seen the dirty fries now I live with yearning! The soup was celeriac and apple, now, on first thought, that didn't seem to appealing. My want for soup overruled my head however. Boy was I glad it did!! The goats cheese toasted sandwich and the soup were well presented and to die for. Top marks. It's rare a bowl of soup comes out piping hot and it certainly was. Just the job after a damp hike on the trail. We grabbed some of their apparently infamous Portuguese Custard Tartlets to go for later in the day for good measure! We devoured those on the bus back to our digs at the end of the day and did they bring a smile to our faces!! Well done, fantastic establishment,wonderful food, great service. 10/10. 🥇 I'll be back for the loaded fries!! (Nachos I bet are brilliant too!)

Lovely food, nice wee bistro, staff are all great, I had Greek salad, the others had fish cakes all very tasty, I particularly recommend the Portuguese custard tarts as well and apparently the coffee bon bon is lovely too

I love this place. I am gluten and dairy intolerant and this place serves up simply the best oat milk latte and gluten free breakfast options and delivers every time. Hooked and keep going back again and again.

Centrally located on the High Street. A warm welcome and casual decor with period photographs on the walls. Interesting menu ranging from Soup of the Day to specials on the Board. Well presented tasty food and good sized cups and mugs for tea and coffee

Can't recommend highly enough, food was fantastic and staff were super too, we went in for lunch and got the chicken Cuban (Pepito), be warned you don't want need any dinner! If you're in the area phone them and book in.

Amazing find in Kirkcaldy. Warm welcome even with our 2 large labradors that spread themselves out on the floor. They were catered for immediately with water and a bowl of sausage each. Food perfect, hot and fresh. Staff friendly throughout.

Visited today we both had the chicken pepito baguette which was amazing. Freshly made very filled sandwich served with chips and side salad. All piping hot and freshly cooked apart from the salad that was cold…. Coffee was great as was the service and our wee dog was welcomed and was offered a sausage for her trouble.

Once again the absolute best of customer service and food. You are treated as a guest and not just a customer. The full breakfast is, as always, amazing. I seriously cannot put into words how much we have enjoyed this again.

Our food was incredible. Healthy, very well presented, quick to arrive, delicious and the coffee is spectacular. We are going to make it our new regular haunt.
