After trawling the high street looking for an appealing dog-friendly cafe (one ‘dog friendly’ cafe would only allow us to sit in their soulless courtyard garden through a shop where dogs were not welcome!!) we came across Koffee and Cake. As we entered, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The choice of cakes is terrific AND they had a great choice of Gluten-free cakes for one of our friends who is a coeliac. The coffee is excellent too! As the name suggests, they do only serve coffee and cake but it was well worth stopping by and I’d definitely recommend it.

It was lovely food! Was even better that it is a small business. Only thing I would say, is my biscoff cookie dough was a little dry and I couldn’t really taste any biscoff sauce.. but other than that is was delicious, and portions were generous!

Not a good experience this time. Painfully slow service and the wild mushroom vegan main dish was a plie of tasteless slop. When asked what we thought of the food we gave a truthful answer but they clearly didn't want to hear it. Well, nobody else has ever complained about it, was their answer. We've been to the Anchor many times before and, to be fair, this was the first VERY poor experience there.

After looking for a dog friendly cafe with friends, we entered the shop only to be told quite emphatically that dogs were NOT allowed in the shop and that if we wanted to use the cafe we’d have to sit in the garden. After unlocking a back door, we were ushered into a most unwelcoming and uninspiring courtyard garden which was bleak and soulless. Having been made most unwelcome, we decided this was not the place for us and left. (Note to the establishment - if you are going to advertise as being dog friendly, perhaps your shop staff need to be more accommodating to allowing dogs through the shop to get to the garden).
