Lovely little local pub. We visited for an evening meal on Sunday just after the music finished. Great atmosphere.. food was good quality and good sized portions. Bar staff really friendly.

Soup was amazing, efficient and friendly service and they work so hard to ensure everyone can fit in. Dog friendly and tasty home cooked food. Such a lovely stop if you are doing the Ambleside to Threlkeld railway walk. It’s just along the road and then up a little hill into the village.

would normally send a review to trip advisor, however, since I received an email from you directly asking to leave a review, I thought it better to give the review direct to you. We stayed for 3 nights, in room 3 at the sister inn Salutation Arms Appreciate that the building is very old, but the access to the entrance of the building is not good, especially for older people. The two steps down were difficult to use, especially when carrying cases, and with a dog. The stairs upto the bedrooms were steep. The state of the carpet was terrible, stained very badly, obviously from the footfall using it. The fact that it was light in colour didn’t help. The room was large no complaints there, but there were a lot of chips in the painting, and again, the light coloured carpet had stains on it. The en suite, if you can call it that, was the smallest I have ever seen. You could sit on the loo, brush your teeth at the sink, and wash your feet in the shower all at the same time. For the size of the room, the en suite could have been a lot bigger. We ate in the Sally bar the first night, and the meal was very good, the barman was very friendly. Breakfast was at the Farrier, and the cooked breakfast that morning, tasted as if it had been left under a hot plate and was dried up. Dinner that night wasn’t the best either, my husband had the garlic mushrooms and it was like a soup. The lasagne wasn’t the best either. The next two mornings breakfast , the coffee was cold, and we had to ask for a replacement hot pot of coffee. Staff were all friendly and pleasant, however didn’t ask during the meal if everything was ok, even when collecting plates, which is unusual. On checking out, we weren’t even asked if we had enjoyed our stay, again, very unusual. I don’t normally have any issues with where we stay, and would write a good review, but unfortunately The Horse and Farrier, Salutation Inn, just didn’t tick the boxes for us. Update-I am still waiting on a reply to my review from marketing at the horse and Farrier
