Chef and Manager

Central, Ards
25/11/2018: We enjoyed a very tasty evening meal here. We called in hoping to get a table and were able to enjoy a straightforward dinner. I had a great fillet steak perfectly cooked and my wife had a lamb dish which was equally delicious. Will definitely be back here.
06/11/2018: This is the best kept secret in north down.....Altan the chef and veronica the manager run a great restaurant. The menu is fab.....we've tried everything and everything tastes wonderful....the parfait is silky smooth...the duck delightful.. and the seafood linguine superb.

The Poacher's Pocket

Killinchy, Ards
16/12/2018: Really good quality food served by busy hard working staff. We visited on a Saturday evening without booking and although the place was busy we were quickly found a table. The food was delicious and well presented. The price was a little on the steep side but the food was worth it. A lovely atmosphere and well worth a visit.
16/12/2018: I have been here a few times and it's always a real treat. The food is excellent. Good variety of choices which are always cooked well and superbly presented. Atmosphere is great. It is always always busy but it is well laid out so doesn't feel cramped. Well worth a visit but would consider booking if you do. You won't be disappointed.

Central, Ards
07/11/2018: Great tasty food with complex flavours. Had the sausage roll today but have sampled most of the other dishes. Sausage roll delicious. Coffee is good and served in SMALL cups as all good coffee should be. Can't understand why anyone wants something resembling a bucket of coffee. Haptik, keep doing exactly what you are currently doing - its very good.
22/10/2018: Great place for brunch on a Saturday. I regularly eat here with my partner or my girl friends for a catch up. Coffee is top class and the menu has so much choice, and they alter it with the seasons! Truly perfectionists!

Home Sweet Home

Donaghadee North, Ards
01/11/2018: A little gem in Donaghadee. This is different to most coffee shops, not at all "corporate", but small and homely. Food mainly home made, coffee lovely. They don't serve large lunches, but soup, stew and sausage butties as well as toasted sandwiches. Also the usual tray akes and cakes. The wheaten bread is delicious. Lovely atmosphere in the shop, lots of nice nic-nacs for sale or to browse. Staff very friendly. My only small "moan" would be the slowness of the service, but I suppose the kind of place is for those who have some time to spare. Having said that I would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone.
12/09/2018: Visited this delightful coffee shop today with my wife. The freshly- baked cakes were scrumptious, the coffee was really good and the staff very friendly. We can highly recommend it.

Daft Eddies

Killinchy, Ards
17/12/2018: My husband, mother and auntie were out on Saturday and decided to call in for lunch as it had been a long time since we had eaten here. We weren't disappointed. The welcome we received from all the staff was fantastic and they made us feel like the only people in the restaurant. The food was good but not outstanding however this didn't matter as the staff and views more than make up for it. We will definitely visit again.
08/11/2018: I took my husband here for his birthday at short notice. We were so warmly welcomed, including our golden retriever. The meal was cooked to order with fresh, local ingredients, a good vegetarian selection and very good value for money. It was a cold, grey day so we didn’t get to enjoy the terrace but the view over the water must be very special on a summers day.

The Quays Restaurant

Portavogie, Ards
11/12/2018: Best restaurant in County Down !! Richard and staff brilliant, never fail to make you feel welcome 😁
01/12/2018: The Quays never fails to deliver great food. Every course is cooked to perfection and the service is relaxed but attentive.

North Down House

Comber West, Ards, >100£
11/12/2018: Haven’t been to this restaurant for a long time and when I dined there recently was very impressed.
11/12/2018: This bistro is crying out to be modernised. Not a place for a special night out. The food is ‘just ok’. Service was OK. Won’t rush back.

Comber Tandoori

Comber East, Ards, 20-30£
28/10/2018: When having a takeaway in Comber, there simple is no comparison. The meals are always plentiful and taste great at a reasonable price.
02/10/2018: We would call in quite regularly to this lovely little restaurant. The food is always good and it is always reasonably priced. Never fails to deliver.

Pier 36

Donaghadee North, Ards
17/12/2018: Dinner just ok,could have been hotter. Very pleasant staff. Make you very welcome. So nic vas they were I just couldn't complain.
16/12/2018: Went on Friday evening & Food was terrible! The Pate came with two big slices of bread. The chicken dish was over cooked, covered with a bit of greenery & an accompanying small pot of spicy wedge type potatoes. All unattractive & tasteless. The Xmas pudding & custard tasted of vegetable broth (very bizarre & certainly a new experience.) The person next to me couldn’t eat the creme brûlée, it wobbled like a jelly & was also inedible! This place needs a chef!!

Salthouse Restaurant

Portaferry, Ards
29/10/2018: Ate here on a Saturday evening with our 3 teens. Food was lovely, we had mussels, seafood pie, sea bass and “beef and bird”. All good. Desserts were great as was my Irish coffee. Staff were really friendly and there’s a great view of the lough from the upstairs restaurant.
26/10/2018: Strongly recommend the seafood chowder! Amazing combination & texture! Well done chef! <3 Staff was also great & very polite!

Sugarcane Cafe Bistro

Comber East, Ards, <20£
27/11/2018: Visited Sugarcane for an evening meal last Friday with my parents and son. Absolutely first class experience. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable & helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The food itself was superb. Mushroom soup, Bread selection, Salmon, Carbonara, Chicken Goujons & Chicken Stack all excellent. Compliments to the chefs! Will definitely be back & recommend to all!!
23/11/2018: We came here today for lunch, had two lovely Ulster frys, served by very friendly and attentive waiter, Chris.Lovely place, great view of the square, loved it

The Old Post Office

Lisbane, Ards
16/12/2018: The newly branded OPO has had some positive tweaks & changes; larger traybakes, some new pastries and sandwich cakes. But the old stalwart of lasagne really misses the mark. I hesitated when I'd seen it but realised the mistake when I was gnawing it...hopefully there will be a tweak. There's barely any sauce. Hopefully they can tweak it. The salads are still fantastic.
14/12/2018: Lovely spot for lunch. We took our Mum here today for her 94th birthday. She is a wheelchair user, so the easy access and disabled toilet facilities are ideal. Surroundings are really lovely and cosy, with generous portions of excellent wholesome food. Also the staff were extremely helpful to us. We will definitely be back.

Saltwater Brig

Kircubbin, Ards, 20-30£
19/11/2018: My husband and I arrived yesterday at 4pm. We hadn't booked but were given a table very quickly. We have been here many times and enjoyed our meals but yesterday we asked for turkey and ham with gravy seperate. When the meal arrived the plate was covered with gravy. We said to waitress and we were offered more gravy-not what we wanted. When the waitress came to take our plates away she saw all the ham still on the plate and wanted to know did we want to take it home. I told her the reason we left the ham a was that it was burnt. She nodded and took the plates away. I appreciate it was busy and we have had good food in the past.
14/11/2018: Lovely food st good prices and wheelchair access too. Friendly staff! Seemed a popular place with the locals too and if you are staying at strangford Bay lodge, let the staff know and you get 20 percent discount!

Harbour and Company

Donaghadee North, Ards
05/11/2018: Always a favourite spot for us - warm, friendly welcome, great food, attentive staff. Plus that view from the huge picture window - guests over from Manchester were amazed !
20/10/2018: My wife and I come here usually on a Saturday for lunch. Upstairs is roped off, so we have no choice but to eat downstairs in the bar area, which is ok, but as usual, the TV's are set to sport, the local bookie junkies are shouting at the three screens, the TV volumes are above speaking volumes, so it is difficult to have a conversation. I don't know why we bother, but the food is generally good. Today we had Tapas of Bbq ribs, chicken wings and crab claws, a main of pizza. The food was spot on, the atmosphere wasn't, unless you like screaming football fans shouting in the background. A few things to fix which I have raised. Fix the date on the receipt, it shows June. Fix the left hand tap in the Gents loo, it runs constantly, I've raIsed it a few times with the staff, but if you're happy to heat the constantly running warm water, and pay for it, then knock yourself out. That's why I scored a 2.
