The Chestnut Inn in Ards

We were staying just down the road and came a couple of evenings for a drink. Tiny bar frequented by a handful of regulars, all of whom were exceptionally friendly and made us feel really welcome. Thank you Tom, Pat and Eddie for your hospitality and company. This was the highlight of our trip to Northern Ireland.

Excellent service and food was well worth it, everyone had a fabulous meal and plenty of everything.... Gavin is a really great chef, just need to advertise more and have the place really buzzing 👍👌

Called in and enjoyed 2 lovely steak meals for £20. Well worth a visit. Friendly staff and very clean inside.

Actually we found the place accidentally. And it was the best what could have happened on sunny Sunday afternoon. Food spoiling your tastebuds, friendly staff. Overall great experience! I highly recommend it to all foodies

This place is a little bit like from fairytale. Placed in the middle of meadows farms and sky and nowhere at the same time. There is a magician in this realm. He will serve you the most delicious meats and fish and at the end your buds will be spoiled with deserts you’ll have to come back for in and on. Absolutely miraculous stay.

First time visit on Saturday last despite living no more than 3 miles distant. Superb with a decent menu together with a reasonably varied vegetarian menu capable of servicing the local and not so local community. There were 3 in our party and all were more than satisfied with what we ate. Will definitely be back maybe for the Sunday lunch as the menu for this looks good and reasonably priced.

Called here for a Saturday evening meal. Two starters, two main course, two desserts and two drinks and it came to less than £45. Excellent value and the food was very good. Good vegetarian menu too. Starters of vegetable soup and goats cheese salad - generous helpings and very tasty. Wild mushroom tagliatelle was very good as was the chicken. Both very well presented too. Deep filled apple pie and ice cream and orange and chocolate cheese cake with ice cream finished the meal off well. With a pint of Guinness and a lemonade included, it was a great price too. Nice view over the fields at the back of the restaurant with the sun in the sky made for a really nice evening. Will definitely return.

After Sunday shopping we called for lunch it was beautiful and lots of it. Staff were fab will definitely go back!!!

Found this place by accident while searching on here for somewhere I hadn't tried before. The reviews sounded good & we weren't disappointed! Went for 3 courses, all were perfectly cooked & helpings were great. Not pretentious, just honest hearty food. Good value too. Handy location next to Ballygowan & not far from Balloo House. Thoroughly recommend. Service was very warm & welcoming and efficient. Will be back. Give it a try!

My husband and I visited this restaurant which is quite close to home, for the first time for Sunday lunch! We were not disappointed! The starters were delicious - mushrooms served very hot on an interesting plate resembling a garden! The prawns were lovely with Marie Rose sauce and green salad leaves. Excellent! The main courses were very generous. Beautifully cooked salmon with a delicious crust and pork fillet stack with peppercorn sauce and sweet potato crisps. These were accompanied with green vegetables which had a nice bite and two types of potato. We could not resist a desert and had pavlova and sticky toffee pudding both of which again were lovely. The coffee was newly ground and tasted just right! The bill for such a feast was not hard to pay! People of this area- try The Chestnut. The staff are very friendly and helpful. You will have a lovely meal and leave satisfied!

I have been on numerous occasions over the past year, having found the restaurant whilst out on a Sunday drive. It is now a firm favourite and regular haunt for us. I regulary go for the steak and never disapoints..Good wine selection very reasonably price (same wine twice price in City centre). The menu has a good selection, traditional in style but with a twist, presention has a flair that surprises me in the country location. Thoroughly recommend consistantly consistant.

Second visit to this restaurant and well pleased on both occasions. The food is well presented and the portions are more than ample!! Reasonable wine selection (albeit no sparkling wine on our last visit) - very well priced for what you get with excellent service by a very attentive waitress. The only downside is the lack of atmosphere created by No patrons!! - Honestly you are missing out on a real gem!! - Much better than the baloo/lisbane establishments which are in close proximity - Would I recommend - Yes!! will we return Yes!! (if I can get a table after this review) - try it for yourself and tell me if Iam wrong!!

Have been twice in the last month and received really good food each time. Choices ranged from sea bass, steak, chicken slices, lamb shank and starters of mushrooms, ribs. On both occasions everyone was very impressed and the vegetarian in our party on the first visit said it was the best veggie meal she had tasted in a long time. The only down side is that it is not very busy - no one else in the restaurant on the first occasion and a few more including a large party on the second occasion. I don't understand why it is not busier. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars is that the chips could have been slightly better cooked.

Top class for food, could not fault it in anyway. Relaxed friendly atmosphere, good selection on children's menu. The steak is very good. You won't be disappointed.

Booked here with my family and friends of 8 people and the children food was fantastic and so was the service was so please and so was my family and friends kids ate all up which is not often and where given colouring books by our lovely waitress, great portions at great value and just a real nice experience will be back for sure get the Sunday lunch was first class crumble was yum yum

On a country drive we came across this place that people had told me about but never been ,As soon as me and my wife walked in we were greeted by a friendly waitress and showed us to our seats that day was cold outside so she sat us by the warm log burning fire in the bistro which was so nice but the restaurant looked busy anyway. we had a bottle of wine which was served up real nice and taste amazing beside the fire ,I ordered the pate and the steak as I was recommended by a friend and my wife ordered the mussels and the salmon ,well i have never tasted food like it the pate was fresh and plenty of flavor and the steak well i must say the best of the best i have ever had melt in your mouth juicy and delicious my wife's mussels where huge and tasted so fresh in a creamy sauce and her salmon was fresh and broke of in lovely pieces perfectly cooked,I will definitely be back so if you want a great meal at a great price in a lovely place come here i highly recommend it
