The Greyhound Free House & Grill

Sonning Common, South Oxfordshire, 20-30£
21/06/2018: 48 years of marriage merits celebration and we chose the Greyhound to do so. Antony Worrall is the Head Chef and so you might expect high prices but we found excellence at a reasonable price instead. The pub and restaurant are interestingly quirky and on a fine evening we sat outside in the country quiet having a drink while looking at the menu.
21/06/2018: My husband and I have just had an excellent lunch at the Greyhound. The menu is so interesting, with delicious options for all tastes and preferences. The staff are wonderfully efficient and friendly, and the location... just beautiful!

Le Manoir Aux Quat' Saisons

Great Milton, South Oxfordshire, >100£
20/06/2018: Words can't say how much we enjoyed this place so I am not going to attempt to..... Apparently the computer says I have to make more of an effort (minimum of 100 characters) so hopefully this extra piece has satisfied it.
19/06/2018: Мне очень понравилось это зовидение,вежливый персонал,хорошая кухня,классный интерьер,мне понравилось это зоведение я бы порекомендовал бы всем!

The Home Sweet Home

Cholsey and Wallingford South, South Oxfordshire
21/06/2018: Always a warm welcome and tasty food
15/06/2018: We hadn't booked but the very helpful staff managed to find us a table even though it was very busy. Beautiful bar with a lovely feel, we went straight to the table though as we were squeezed in having not booked. The menu was really excellent and far above what you would perhaps expect from a small country pub, I have great joy in saying the menu was not all show - they food was brilliant, we loved everything and left the plates clean!

Didcot All Saints, South Oxfordshire
20/06/2018: Very clean and modern place. The staff really friendly and always make you feel welcome. Food is really nice and tasty never over or under cooked just right I will always go back there
20/06/2018: Over the 20 years I have lived in this area I have visited many restaurants and a good many of those were Indian restaurants, frequently with my business visitors, and friends from the Indian subcontinent. Most were acceptable (only one required a hospital visit!), some were good, but none came anywhere close to the Kolkata in Didcot. Not only was the food excellent, portions generous but the staff - Ali in particular - went the extra mile in so many ways and he proved a charming and diligent host. I will certainly be returning the next time I seek Indian-style food, and especially if I have a guest from the Indian sub-continent. Tonight I was accompanied by a Pakistani visitor who lost no time in declaring this to be the best Indian restaurant we had visited during his stays in the area. Ali ensured that the dietary requirements were met and answered every concern of our (far from easy-going) guest. Five stars and five again for effort! Highly recommended.

The Baskerville

Shiplake, South Oxfordshire
19/06/2018: We found this place by accident on a little road trip, it just looked nice from the outside and the name attracted us. The inside is beautiful, just a normal gastropub but one with style and a lovely calmness about it. Our first thought was that the menu was a little out of our price range, however we found the open sandwiches to be a pleasing choice. Excellent choice on the menu, and likewise on the bar. Would definitely return if passing this way!
10/06/2018: We went to The Baskerville last night as part of a group of eight. It really is a great place to eat in a relaxed well run gastro pub that knows how to look after their guests.

Shaun Dickens at The Boathouse

Henley South, South Oxfordshire, 30-45£
19/06/2018: It was our first anniversary and we requested a «special table» at 2pm. We have called at 12.30 to find out if they could possibly move us to 1.30 as we are always nearby. The answer was - we can not guarantee you a table. When we arrived at 2, we were given a choice of all available tables- the restaurant had so many tables unoccupied apart from the river view. Of course, not for us. The service was not good-we had to wave for attention several times as waiter never looked at our side- and that’s when only two tables were taken. Really sad that our anniversary lunch was not special. The bill came with 6£ for a beer when the Menu states 5.50£. We decided not to argue because of 1£ overcharge. Still not nice. When we were leaving - nobody cared to say good bye or thank you even with 10% tips that we left regardless of the bad experience. I can not recommend or no interest to return.
19/06/2018: We had lunch for father's day at the boat house. The food was excellent, the staff attentive but not intrusive. They treated our children like young adults and seemed genuinely happy to have them there.

Orwells at Shiplake

Shiplake, South Oxfordshire, 60-100£
20/06/2018: We went for the fixed price lunch menu which was fantastic and will be back for a taster menu.
15/06/2018: Just got home after a superb evening at Orwells. The service, atmosphere and above all the high quality and exciting courses blew us away! We've been to a number of award-winning restaurants, yet Orwells beat them all today. I enjoyed lobster fishcakes followed by incredibly delicious chef's special spider fillet of beef, then the delicious chef's dessert of light fluffy sponge, special ice cream, and crunchy Treakle.

The Red Lion

Watlington, South Oxfordshire, 30-45£
18/06/2018: Great food, great atmosphere and great service.
12/06/2018: We had heard Olivier ran a great restaurant so we booked and weren't disappointed! Very friendly service from Christoph. Delicious food. I particularly liked the mussels cooked in ginger and coconut milk. AR

The Half Moon

Watlington, South Oxfordshire
14/06/2018: My husband and I got a take away pizza. He paid extra for the stretched pizza and I had the normal base. When we opened our boxes the pizza was tiny in the box with such a light base. Mine was like a children’s portion,...
12/06/2018: Delicious variety of pizza and salads , lovely red wine, great service from friendly staff. Very pleased we stopped here and will come again. Thank you. X

Wallingford North, South Oxfordshire
19/06/2018: We had varying starters and mains - All were excellent. The staff were superb - we booked late and so glad we were able to get in.
12/06/2018: This is lovely little authentic Italian. We visited a few Monday's ago for my birthday. It was very very busy with only the owner and a young girl working. We are quite chilled and happy to pay cards in between courses so didn't really notice any slow down of service. The restaurant was full by 730pm. The food is always very good, cooked and preseneted well. Particular favourites are the Aranchini starter and the calzone pizzas.

The Crooked Billet

Chiltern Woods, South Oxfordshire, >100£
19/06/2018: We arrived before service time and were made very welcome. We had some drinks and relaxed in the homely surroundings. We ordered some mixed bread and what a delight they were. Fresh and flavoursome. Our mains were very good. Sea bass for one, with avocado and heritage tomatoes and venison for the other with haggis and poached pear. Both full of flavour. The staff were great. So glad we had gone back after some time away from there.
18/06/2018: Perfectly cooked food, brilliant service, garden is fantastic to sit in on a hot sunny day, I will return.

The Mole Inn

Garsington, South Oxfordshire, 30-45£
19/06/2018: A warm greeting and shown immediately to our table. A very relaxed and rustic atmosphere. A good varied menu and wine list. Very polite, friendly and attentive staff. My wife and I have visited The Mole several times and never had a bad experience or a bad meal.
¡Volveremos!

Luscombes Restaurant

Chiltern Woods, South Oxfordshire
15/06/2018: Went to Luscombe's last night with a small group of friends. Service was lovely, very friendly and although we were tucked away upstairs we were never forgotten. The food was spectacular and cooked absolutely to order. There is only a small menu so it doesn not take too long to make up your mind. I had the Rib Eye Steak which came with a little pot of sauce on the side, beautiful chips and grilled veg. My starter of Watermelon salad was perfect and very refreshing. The dessert however was a thing of beauty - Raspberry Souffle mmmmmm....Yum! Will definitely be back and take my family.
05/06/2018: We found this place by accident last September when we were visiting friends, so when we visited the same friends this was a good place to go, as it had been so good last time. On a fine day we were offered a table inside or inside, we opted to go in (it was cooler). There was a choice of fixed price menu or a la carte, but as the fixed price was cheaper and all the dishes looked attractive we all went for it. Most of us went for the beetroot salad with cheese which was splendid, in most salads which feature multi-coloured beets they all taste the same but here they were assorted flavours and textures, just fabulous. Another starter was a pulled pork croquette which was crunchy on the outside and soft and meaty on the inside. I had fish and chips and the chips had gone down a bit from the last visit when they were "the best ever" but were now merely superb (but no complaints!), Dessert was an intense and incredibly light (hot) raspberry soufflé with ice cream, great finish.

The Highwayman

Chiltern Woods, South Oxfordshire
29/04/2018: Visited yesterday for Mum’s birthday and had a truly wonderful time. I had the risotto which I cannot recommend highly enough - absolutely amazing! Beautiful building, lovely staff, definitely coming back! Thank you for such a wonderful meal
20/04/2018: Attended for a wake. Good service, excellent buffet and generally a nice gastritis pub! Close to Reading but a nice semi rural location.

The Three Tuns

Henley North, South Oxfordshire, 30-45£
10/06/2018: This pub has gone down hill , new management needed urgently Beer is poor what they have on tap In the heart of Henley nice beer garden
09/06/2018: We are avid fans of Pie. Consider us the unofficial Pie Patrol. We try the pie at every opportunity throughout the UK. By far the prize for a pie with chicken as the centerpiece goes to the Three Tuns. I literally dream about my next opportunity to find myself in Henley so I can stop in to get another helping of their Welsh style chicken pie. I have tried the steak and ale pie and it was very good. The flavoring sits heavy on the ale side. I liked it but the chicken is exceptional.
