The Fox Goes Free

Boxgrove, Chichester, <20£
14/12/2018: Came in from a evening meal with a small group of friends staff where polite and the food was lovely
08/12/2018: I've been to this wonderful pub many times before and (with one exception) have happily sung its many praises. But my equally decadent golfing partner and I have established a new and highly enjoyable regime... A pie and pint after the delusions of the game. The anti-dote to the colder weather and our disappointing play. The pies are exceptionally good. During our last two visits we've loved their pork & mustard and chicken & mushroom. Crammed full of succulent meat encased in crispy thin pastry, they are sat on a bed of properly cooked veg and bathed in the most delicious gravy... Sublime! The chips aren't really necessary but I wouldn't dream of wasting them! All washed down with their own bitter or one of the many guest brews they offer... we especially liked this week's Crow, 4.5% and very more-ish! We'll be back soon for more.

The Dean Ale & Cider House

Boxgrove, Chichester, 20-30£
29/01/2019: Went for a long walk on Sunday, stopped in the Dean for a drink , I had the wild mushroom on toast , my daughter had the beef sandwich, it was delicious, very friendly staff ,dogs are allowed in the bar , will definitely go again
27/01/2019: Visited for the first time today, for Sunday lunch. The lady member of staff who looked after us was fantastic and could not do enough to help. If only every pub had such outstanding service. The roasts we ate were perfect, with good veg and crispy roast potatoes - good value too. Some locals were sat at the bar, including a very friendly old chap with the cutest Jack Russell dog whose portrait hangs on a wall. It was a real pleasure to be there, and we will definitely return. Loved it.

The White Horse Restaurant

Boxgrove, Chichester, <20£
12/02/2019: Food always to a high standard. Lovely interior and great location. Friendly staff when found! Noticed that when guests would arrive either for a meal or to sign in for the accommodation staff were not around to welcome them on many occasions. Shame!
04/02/2019: Following a stunning day's walk on The South Downs, we went to The White Horse for dinner. Very classy interior, very spacious and a good choice of different main courses. We both opted for fillet of cod which was delicious. We then had sticky toffee pudding which was equally enjoyable. Overall a lovely meal in great surroundings. Very enjoyable. Definitely going again!

The Star & Garter

Boxgrove, Chichester
01/10/2018: Very disappointed having read the reviews. So called roast potatoes and vegetables had obviously been in the freezer the night before. At least make the effort to present the food as advertised. Pudding wasn't sampled as we didn't want any further disappointment. Not good value at all. To give the pub the benefit of the doubt, I would like to think this was an off day but to be honest I doubt it
25/06/2018: We'd got lost and were very peased to come across this pub - for a much needed drink and to get our bearings again! :-))

Cuillin View Gallery & Coffee Shop

Boxgrove, Chichester
29/09/2018: Stopped by here for a coffee before our trip to Beautiful Loch Coruisk. Not much choice but the coffee was decent enough and we enjoyed the home made scones. Elgol is a wonderful place to visit.
16/09/2017: Happened upon this gem while exploring the coastal towns on no agenda. Owners very friendly and allowed me to break the no-takeaway rule as I brought my own travel mug. Nice to see a stance on reduced trash! Proper espresso based coffee. Stop here and visit a while.

The Fish House

Boxgrove, Chichester
27/08/2015: It's not the Fish House now. it's back to being the White Horse and it's brilliant even though it does cost a bit!
22/07/2015: Bad service unhelpful staff. Long waiting times for food. The rooms are grubby and have really thin walls.

03/03/2018: A great place to learn new art, wonderful food, very good teachers, relaxing atmosphere set in beautiful grounds.
23/09/2016: Me visita West Dean en una base regular con la familia y amigos. Siempre es una alegría estar allí especialmente ver los cambios de las estaciones.
