Pizza Calzone

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell, <20£
04/09/2018: I love Italian food and often crave pizza. My husband and I moved to Banbury 2years ago and didn’t see this gem until recently. I am a vegetarian and my husband is a meat lover so Italian food is a perfect blend. Well,,, oh my goodness it was totally amazing,, we had a mozzarella garlic bread to start and it was divine. I had the vegetarian calzone and my husband ordered chicken melanazie. Everything was delicious. Served hot and totally freshly cooked! It was so gorgeous. We enjoyed every mouthful... totally. The size of my calzone was too much for me but I am going to eat it tonight and can’t wait!! The service was so lovely, so friendly and happy to look after us. We were served by Ishmail and Jay. They were brilliant. Funny. Attentive and happy that we enjoyed our experience. This is definitely our new restaurant of choice. YUM.
04/09/2018: We visited Banbury today and after a good walk around the town decided on Pizza Calzone for lunch

The Crown & Tuns Puddingface Country Kitchen

Deddington, Cherwell, <20£
28/08/2018: Great food as usual (one of our favourite spots for a slap up delicious meal), terrific service from Vicky and colleagues. Worth arriving early for evening food as there is no pre-booking and it can get busy quickly (you can book at lunchtime though) Nice beer, comfy surroundings with some nice practical touches (kitchen roll dispensers dotted around!), friendly, un-fusssy local pub type atmosphere - what you see is what you get and what you get is a seriously nice pie. Great gravy, chips and veg if you want that too and the deserts (if you have room!) are scrummy. Good coffee too if that's all you can manage after the very generous portions. No starters, no silly menu (apart from dessert choices) - it's all written clearly on the blackboard and the selection of fillings is wide. This is about the 4th time we've been in the last 18 months and it has remained consistently good and a very enjoyable place to scoff very tasty pie based nosh. Options other than Pie are limited, but this is what they do and they do it very well and I like the focus on doing one main thing to a very high quality. Will be visiting again at some point.
27/08/2018: Bank Holiday Monday and didn’t want to cook, let alone go back to work the following day. The cuisine here is not haute but by gum it is good. Wholesome, flavoursome pies (there were well over a dozen different recipes to choose from on the night we were there) served with spuds (your choice how...) and fresh veg. Grand old English cooking. Attentive, interested staff and a friendly atmosphere about the whole place. Recommended!!

Purple Mango

Banbury Hardwick, Cherwell
28/08/2018: We had a family meal there and from arrival to leaving the staff were polite and attentive.
27/08/2018: Staff were welcoming and very friendly. Great atmosphere, food was of great value and well presented and the service was fantastic, our server Emran was more then helpful and happy to help. Will definitely revisit ☺

Little Amsterdam

Banbury Easington, Cherwell, <20£
27/08/2018: My partner and I have been here many times, this place features brilliant service and delicious food. A very varied menu offering a brunch with a difference!
22/08/2018: We are frequent visitors to this restaurant and we are never disappointed. The staff are lovely and really helpful and the food is delicious! I would recommend to everyone

Denis Restaurant

Bicester Town, Cherwell, <20£
20/08/2018: We had a lovely meal here last Friday evening, the warm bread, dips, salads and grilled meats were delicious, the decor was bright and the restaurant was spotless. My only criticism is that the fresh fruit salad needs reinventing, a small portion of tiny pieces of chopped apple and banana doesn't really constitute a fruit salad! Other than that it was great and we will definitely visit again
15/08/2018: This was a really enjoyable meal. Great food . Excellent service. Will definitely visit again if ever in Bicester. Highly recommended

The Duck on the Pond

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell
28/08/2018: I was pleasantly surprised by the options offered for Vegtarians on the menu - I ordered the sweet potato burger and it was absolutely fantastic! Having tried many different veggie burgers this must have been the best one I’ve had so far. Great food, speedy and friendly service & lovely location. Will be back!
28/08/2018: Dont know how they can justify prices. Typical of Oxfordshire. In Lancashire I pay about 35% less for the same quality. Cant justify the cost even for a special occasion. Better value available in several Banbury pubs in town.

The Trigger Pond

Caversfield, Cherwell, <20£
18/08/2018: Great buzz and great food. They even moved the flowers outside as my sister is allergic. Good value for money. Plenty of vegetarian options, would thourghly recommend.
13/08/2018: Met up with friends for a Sunday lunch here. Its a nice pub and the food is OK. Was very noisy so hard to chat but the place was full. The food was OK, Yorkshire puddings were not crispy but soggy, not pleasant, but apart from that all good and decent portions too.

The Chequers Inn

Bicester Town, Cherwell
29/08/2018: Booked a table for a party of 10 a few days before and fortunate to get this as it was B/Hol w/end. Advised that table needed to be vacated for a 2 p.m. booking which wasn't a problem as I had booked for noon. The main reason I chose this venue was that it was very conveniently located not far from the motorway and roughly equidistant between various starting points for family members concerned. It also looked appealing with its thatched roof and traditional decor. We were greeted by the manageress and service staff in a friendly, welcoming manner and our drinks order was promptly taken. Everyone was very pleased with the quality of the food ordered(carvery, steak pie and fish and chips). There was no rush at any point and the service was of a high standard throughout our visit. I would happily return if this was to prove to be a convenient location for future family meetups. Thanks very much for a lovely lunch and attentive service
29/08/2018: Had 2 dinners there when staying at The Manor just up the road. The Chequers is a great country Pub. Good beer good food great staff.Easy to park and great beer garden for a summer evening pint. Nothing else to touch it for miles around. I checked..

Reg's Cafe

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell, <20£
28/08/2018: Great builders cafe for breakie or lunch and welcomes office workers too. Fabulous value too and very clean. Parking outside
07/08/2018: Best breakfast I’ve had, locally sourced and freshly cooked. Team there are so friendly and it has a real home feel. Can’t wait to visit again

The Milk Shed

Kirtlington, Cherwell
17/08/2018: Although the location is on a small industrial estate once you get inside the Milk shed you forget where you are. The decor is rustic but homely. The menu is varied and something for everyone. I had the scrambled eggs with streaky bacon on sourdough toast. The eggs were some of the best I have had. Great for brunch or lunch and they even sell their own made ice cream. I did not sample any but I know people who have and they really rate it.
05/08/2018: We live fairly locally so have only ever dropped in for a coffee on a bike ride. Today, we decided to cycle there for breakfast. The coffee, service and atmosphere have always been good. Add to that the lovely, simple breakfast we had today and you get five stars.(btw, when I say ‘simple’ we had scrambled egg with tomato on toast. Every element was superb,). Thoroughly recommended.

The Muddy Duck

Fringford, Cherwell
19/08/2018: This is the first time that I have ever written a review! I have wanted to visit the Muddy Duck for a while due to great reviews and recommendations from friends. It was our 31st Wedding anniversary and having a chance to go on our own without the family it seemed like a great idea! So .... our waitress was faultless. I don't remember her name but she was a young Kiera Knightly look alike and was very welcoming saying she was pleased we were with her and her last table booked in for Saturday lunch yesterday. Starter of heirloom tomatoes was delicious but then the meal took a nose dive. We waited and waited .... our waitress then very kindly told us we wouldn't have to wait much longer ... we both ordered steak as it seemed as if they specialised with their Salt Chamber. Both were so over cooked so I question if the MD can cook a steak to order. I also questioned whether my pepper sauce was even pepper sauce! But then I found two peppercorns in the bottom! My husband had Stilton sauce and he said that was delicious. To sum up I was incredibly disappointed but perhaps we just chose the wrong thing from the menu but menu indications suggested steaks would be a great option. I don't want to give up on the Muudy Duck but I certainly considered it pricey for the quality of meal we received. We eat out a lot and are happy to pay a high price if our meals live up to expectations. Sadly this didn't. Jane and Geoff Tandy
18/08/2018: I visited the Muddy Duck with friends for a joint birthday dinner - what a brilliant place!

The Oxford Arms

Kirtlington, Cherwell, >100£
18/08/2018: We visited The Oxford Arms for the first time for lunch with friends & will definitely return.
18/08/2018: A nice friendly atmosphere, good food at a reasonable price point. I especially enjoyed the Confit Duck with Toulouse Sausage and Haricot beans. A good selection of real ales and a fairly priced wine list. We thought the service although willing to be slightly amateurish. Would happily eat there again.

Horse and Groom

Bloxham and Bodicote, Cherwell
11/08/2018: Had a lunch with friends after rambling from Adderbury. Great customer service. Lovely food and great beer, although would be good to have more local ales.
10/06/2018: Great atmosphere and good food and attentive service. Highly recommend for a welcoming traditional pub, dogs welcome too!

New Mogul Indian Cuisine

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell, 20-30£
19/07/2018: Fantastic food as always. Excellent staff and service. One of my favourite places to eat. Well done.
29/06/2018: This place is so friendly and welcoming. The staff are so kind and helpful and really looked after us.

The Saye and Sele Arms

Sibford, Cherwell
16/08/2018: Popped into The Saye and Sele Arms with a friend after a visit to Broughton Castle. Had an amazingly warm welcome from Dan and Liz who run the pub, Dan is also an amazing Chef. Had Whitebait for starters which was delicious, Chicken and Bacon Pie which honestly had the most filling I have ever seen in a meat pie, with a delicious creamy sauce, along with Broccoli, Carrots, Red Cabbage and Chips. All was delicious followed by meringue stack and a fruit compote which was a perfect ending to the meal, along with a Latte Coffee. Ow and just to mention a pint of Doombar which was lovely. Couldn't recommend this pub enough, very cosy and welcoming bar.
13/08/2018: The Saye and Sele Arms on the fringe of Brouighton Castle is owned by the Fiennes family with Lord and Lady Saye and Sele still going strong. The moated castle is full of centuries of history and right next door is this charming pub. You can eat in the bar, restaurant or out among the trees in the lovely garden. We chose a quiet garden spot for our lunchtime visit. A great choice of menu and we all tried something different but ended up trying items from each others' plates which is a good sign.
