Pizza Calzone

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell, <20£
23/12/2018: We had an unplanned lunch here today. I am Italian and I cannot recommend this place enough. The pizzas are great and so is the rest of the menu with extremely generous portions. The staff is very friendly and efficient and we were treated to an espresso and a tiramisu’ as a Christmas gift! We will definitely be regular visitors.
17/12/2018: I highly recommend the spaghetti volgone! The staff are very friendly and I have never had a bad meal here. Try the special of the day which is usually fresh fish. I am sold on the volgone though - love it!!

The Crown & Tuns Puddingface Country Kitchen

Deddington, Cherwell, <20£
03/01/2019: Went on New years day. Had not been for a couple of years. What have I been missing!
03/01/2019: After a lovely walk surrounding Deddington we had lunch at this welcoming pub.

Denis Restaurant

Bicester Town, Cherwell, <20£
29/12/2018: Wow .....what can I say, the food exceeded expectations and the service was second to none. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. Six of us ate , six of us left completely satisfied. I will definitely return next time I am in Bicester.
12/12/2018: Just spent a wonderful evening at Denis's restaurant in Bicester for our team Christmas night out. There were 22 of us. The food was amazing and we chose the Christmas set menu. All 3 courses were presented beautifully. The meze starter was lovely with a variety of flavours and textures typical of Turkish food. The main course was hot and portions plentiful - mostly chicken on a nest of potato or the mixed grill. Everyone enjoyed it. Service was quick and polite. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a twist on a traditional Christmas dinner. Superb!!

Little Amsterdam

Banbury Easington, Cherwell, <20£
04/01/2019: Lovely little gem of a cafe with a very relaxed, homely feel. Dutch food isn’t very exotic so don’t go here expecting fancy fine dining, but it is authentic Dutch and the sharing pancakes we had were tasty. We were a bit disappointed with the ‘shop’ hence 4 stars instead of 5, as it was just 5/6 items all of which you can get in most English supermarkets these days and we’d hoped for a bit more but still a nice touch as we did buy something to take home. A great find and well worth a visit!
02/01/2019: The cafe was cozy and nicely decorated but we felt it was overpriced and adults & kids did not enjoy the food.

Purple Mango

Banbury Hardwick, Cherwell
04/01/2019: Dinner for 3; starters were good, in fact very good. Two of three mains, however, were disappointing. I did not really eat mine it was that poor.
03/01/2019: Love Purple Mango - the food is the best Indian in Banbury, lovely and clean restaurant and the service is great! Especially recommend Thursday Night’s.

The Trigger Pond

Caversfield, Cherwell, <20£
11/12/2018: Great service , portion price and the flavours are out of this world. We had the hanging chicken which is so unique ! Garlic butter dripping down to the chips at the bottom what could be better. All 4 ordered the same !! Value for money and such a great little venue
09/12/2018: I was passing thorough Bucknell one Sunday recently at lunch time and decided to stop at the Trigger Pond. I haven’t eaten there for perhaps 8 years so I was curious to see what it was like. The car park was full to overflowing and the pub was very busy so I didn’t have high hopes of being seated. The staff were very helpful and seated me at the bar - moving a bar stool out so that I had space. I ordered the roast chicken, which was excellent and came with all the trimmings. I ordered cauliflower cheese as an extra, which was a good decision as it was great. I finished with a good macchiato - the roast was just too substantial for me to manage pudding. The staff were friendly, despite being so busy and I am glad I stopped. I’ll be back.

The Duck on the Pond

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell
07/01/2019: visited after a long morning of Christmas shopping and it was just the place to re charge our failing energy levels. The food is very good indeed all freshly prepared and the staff were very pleasant and helpful a great place to visit for lunch.
05/01/2019: Went for lunch on a Saturday. Was very quiet but had to wait a very long time to order and for food to arrive. It seemed chaotic as if nobody knew what was going on. The food itself was passable but expensive for what it was. 18 pound you don't expect your meat to be dry. Won't be going back here.

The Bell Inn

Adderbury, Cherwell
02/01/2019: A very warm and welcoming country pub, with a comprehensive menu catering for all tastes (including veg & vegan). Specialising in local produce, the food was well cooked and beautifully presented, and the prices didn't hurt the pocket! With ample parking and a well-kept garden this pub comes highly recommended. PS This pub has Cask Marque accreditation, and deservedly so- the range of Hook Norton ales are extremely well kept here.
05/11/2018: Having avoided this pub previously as it didn’t serve food, we were delighted to see that this was no longer the case under the new management so decided to try it for a snack lunch.

The Oxford Arms

Kirtlington, Cherwell, >100£
14/12/2018: The Oxford Arms is such a lovely place to visit with friends. The food is superb & the place itself always looks beautiful with fresh flowers & table decorations. Oxana & Bryn the owners clearly work very hard to make it a very inviting place to eat & drink. We love it.
10/12/2018: We had a lovely Sunday lunch in great surroundings and atmosphere, very good menu choice and very attentive staff. Perfect, we will return.

The Chequers Inn

Bicester Town, Cherwell
28/12/2018: Went for lunch recently and I had a chilli con carne which was scrummy. I then had the most amazing homemade dessert! Chocolate and hazelnut brownie. Presentation was also amazing, it was honestly the best brownie I have ever had! Staff are all really friendly. However, my only slight criticism would be the older women although she was lovely she kept wondering around the restaurant/bar area constantly...made us feel slightly uncomfortable. However, I will definitely be returning and recommending and can't wait to go again!
16/12/2018: Because of living in various areas and unable to meet up all together on Christmas Day, we have for the past nine years, chosen to gather together for a pre - Christmas Lunch and hand - over presents etc. for the day itself and this has always worked extremely well, both for the social and geographical elements of it. all but one of those gatherings have been at this location - last year we did not attend . Change of Patrons during that time and we immediately noticed the change of attitude, service, choice of menu etc, etc. all positive improvements, since our last visit in 2016. Also, we found the pricing structure very acceptable, the small Function Room adequate and convenient for our needs - all good stuff ! Thanks to you all at The Chequers, have a busy Christmas and God Willing, we will all return next year !

Copper Kitchen

Bicester Town, Cherwell, <20£
24/12/2018: The Copper Kitchen accommodated 27 of us on Saturday 22nd December for a Christmas get together. Before the evening, we visited to ask if it was possible to provide a Vegan meal, which was agreed. The chef took time to prepare a separate meal and inform what each course would be. The food, atmosphere and staff attention was fab! Would highly recommend on all levels. We did wait slightly longer for the food, but it was a large party, all the food was prepared fresh and this allowed a good amount of time for socialising.
20/12/2018: We booked a table for 4 with some friends after eating here several weeks ago and having a good experience.

Reg's Cafe

Banbury Grimsbury and Castle, Cherwell, <20£
01/01/2019: Had always been intrigued about this place and its glowing reviews, so decided to give it a whirl at the dog end of the year. On arrival I found a full car park and a bright, cosy eatery with a real sense of bustle. Steaming mugs of coffee and plates piled with toast were being brought to everyone around me, all of whom were munching contentedly. I opted for the classic breakfast, and on incicating that I didn't want beans was immediately asked if I wanted mushrooms or hash browns instead. I had tasty bacon, an egg and a good meaty sausage, plus the hash browns. With coffee and two rounds of toast included for £4.95, and very friendly service I can see why it has such a loyal clientele. Perhaps it can become a monthly or quarterly treat as I try to embark on a healthier regime?
01/01/2019: Excellent food and great for weekend kids breakfast treat before taking them to the football at Banbury United

The Muddy Duck

Fringford, Cherwell
03/01/2019: Booked for lunch to celebrate my Dads 60th Birthday and the food & service was excellent! I had my 2 young children with me, there is no childrens menu but as soon as we sat down we were given childrens options and they very quickly brought out their meals first. Food was fab as usual ( I had steak) and the atmosphere was comfortable and family friendly.
31/12/2018: Food presented nicely but far from warm. Had to send my husbands fish stew back to the kitchen as so cold. Heard other tables complaining of the same issue. Disappointing and don't think we would be back in a hurry.

The Milk Shed

Kirtlington, Cherwell
27/12/2018: Great location and very friendly. Food was very good, although choices for vegetarians are very limited. Nice salads.
19/12/2018: Nice simple meal, quite expensive for what we had but pleasant enough. Some nice variations on simple dishes for brunch

The Baguette Box

Bicester Town, Cherwell
25/11/2018: Outstanding service, with plenty of Food to choose from. Cakes are great too. Lovely little place for lunch .
20/10/2018: Very friendly and welcoming. Especially accommodating for food allergies and will definitely come again. So much more than the normal high street chains!
