Hoddington Arms

Upton Grey and The Candovers, Basingstoke and Deane, >100£
16/12/2018: As a group of 5 ladies celebrating our birthdays in December, we met for lunch at the Hoddington Arms. It is a very welcoming pub with a good choice of starters, mains and puddings. Each course was nicely presented and served by efficient waiting staff. All of us were pleased with our choices, especially those of us who chose the salmon main course.
14/12/2018: Went here for my birthday with the family, and loved it. The food was excellent and for a pretty decent price, definitely want to go again as it was lovely!

The Wellington Arms

Baughurst and Tadley North, Basingstoke and Deane, 30-45£
17/12/2018: My friends from France who were staying with me in Tadley were very impressed with the Wellington Arms. Surprisingly on the Tuesday night that we visited there were two other French families eating there.
01/12/2018: Went as a foursome (self, wife, son and daughter-in-law) and we all enjoyed our meals. I can't remember what everyone had but my wife had twice cooked cheese souffle starter and I had the mussels. Both were excellent, the mussels being large and juicy. For mains we both had cod, mine being common or garden 'fish and chips', my wife's being cod loin on a bed of mash etc.and these were also very nice. The treacle tart dessert was excellent. I'd give it 5 stars but for the fact that the chips were only OK.

The Fur and Feathers

Upton Grey and The Candovers, Basingstoke and Deane, 30-45£
17/12/2018: As another reviewer on 2nd September stated in their review, we have been here a few times before and been impressed, but this time was different and bit disappointing. I don't know if it was because there were not enough staff in the kitchen and/or serving (it seemed that way) but the service wasn't good the evening we went. There was a general lack of attention, without being approached there was a feeling that nobody would come to the table for orders, lots of things off menu or missing, we were left far too long when arriving without orders being taken. We were there as the first customers, but our order was taken after other groups and this meant some things we wanted to order were not on the menu. There was some confusion over meals not being cooked together, so some had to eat separately. The front of house staff member did do a good job of dealing with this, as did the gentleman behind the bar - she was upfront, apologetic and, offered extra bread and a few things to tide us over whilst waiting. I gave up waiting for the white coffee at the end and we left without it. I wonder if the problem was that the kitchen were over stretched with groups having the Christmas meal and also running their full bar menu. They needed another experienced member of staff assisting with food orders, somebody with customer service experience to aid the front of house staff member. Incidentally, the food was great (as usual), well presented and of high quality!!! It wouldn't put us off returning as we would view this as a bad day, however, I was apologetic to the group we invited out that night as the impression given wasn't good.
01/12/2018: We visited the Fur and Feathers unplanned and we are so glad we did. The atmosphere was lovely and cosy and the log fire was great on a wintry evening. The staff were friendly and attentive which is so lovely as not the case in many places. The menu was varied and the produce did not disappoint. Tasty and well presented just a pleasure. We hope it is as great next time we visit because it was a treat to find such a gem on a child free evening out.

Purefoy Arms

Upton Grey and The Candovers, Basingstoke and Deane, 20-30£
17/12/2018: Fab meal with friends, Friday evening near Christmas. The menu was varied with some firm favourites. The food and service were excellent. We had two bottles of wine, drinks, three courses for four and it was about £45 per head which I think is reasonable as well. Definitely being coming back.
16/12/2018: So we popped in this weekend - six of us for dinner... and it was a bit of a mixed bag!

Eastrop, Basingstoke and Deane
21/11/2018: Visited Wimpy Basingstoke this week, and as per usual, found it to be a very pleasant Experience all round!
09/11/2018: Today after school I needed to pop into town and thought as I had to drag my 2 sons along I thought I'd treat them to a wimpy.

Watership Down Inn

Overton, Laverstoke and Steventon, Basingstoke and Deane, 20-30£
18/12/2018: The best in every respect. Visited many times.
17/12/2018: It was a cold, wet Saturday and we had a late lunch with friends at The WatershipDown Inn. I had the scotch egg made with black pudding, the egg was still soft and it was absolutely delicious. The rest of the party all enjoyed their food too. It was so nice to snuggle down into the sheepskins on the back of the chairs and enjoy a a very pleasand lunch with friends in a warm atmosphere.

The Old House At Home

Basing, Basingstoke and Deane
11/11/2018: This place is outstanding, very friendly and welcoming staff who are very knowledgeable and engaging from the start to the end. Very high standard of food and drink, a throughly enjoyable and well run pub!

The Gamekeepers

Basing, Basingstoke and Deane, 45-60£
17/12/2018: Came here for our work night out (4 of us) we had booked and pre ordered off the Xmas menu. We started with a drink at the bar and were asked when we would like our starters to come out, the food all came out quickly even thou there was another large Xmas party there aswell. Food was delicious and well catered for a couple of dietary requirements. Will definitely be visiting again to try the main menu.
13/12/2018: This is a old oak beamed traditional English pub, only went in for a evening drink, asked for a rosé and they didn't have the one I wanted but was assured the house wine was very good, I had a sample taste and it was to my liking must have been good because a had a another, we sat on a cosy sofa away from the dining tables, the owner had a old dog freely munching around, it is a dog friendly pub. it was a friday and so was quite busy lots of people in for the meals. all very pleasent.

The Iron Duke

Pamber and Silchester, Basingstoke and Deane, 30-45£
14/12/2018: 12 of us went for Christmas lunch with a budget of £35pp. With careful accounting I was able to get 3 courses plus a pint. So it's a tad pricey but the quality and quantity were worth it. It's a great country pub several miles off the nearest main road. Well worth a diversion.
09/12/2018: If you are looking for fab food and absolutely perfect service check this country pub. It really is very good.

Festival Street Kitchen

Eastrop, Basingstoke and Deane
13/12/2018: Business lunch via deliveroo. Pulled pork burrito are super and tasty. Proces are ok. Recommend wegen in the area of basingstoke
11/12/2018: I visited this food outlet on a busy Saturday. There was what appeared to be plenty of seating, but at peak times you may have to eat standing up or wait for a table. I was lucky and got a seat straight away. The staff were friendly and helpful with the food being food cooked to order which was a generous portion. It was so much tastier than chain burgers and the fries were excellent too. If you're in Festival Place and what quick tasty food "on the go" or to eat sat down but outdoors, I can recommend Festival Street Kitchen.

Cafe Dome

Brighton Hill North, Basingstoke and Deane
11/12/2018: 3rd year in sharing Christmas dinner with friends, served by young people with learning difficulties. The food was served with much enthusiasm & care & plenty of it. The dome was decorated very nicely & tables extremely well.
07/11/2018: Visited recently and had a big breakfast and a tea. Staff are very welcoming, friendly, and professional.

The Lime Leaf

Eastrop, Basingstoke and Deane
05/01/2019: The food is average and nothing special. The service is clumsy and we had to remind them to bring the menu and take the order for drinks. We were sitting downstairs and the phone was left ringing for very long several times. There were so many little details like just leaving your mains on the table any where these landed for you to sort out.
28/12/2018: We have been occasional visitors to Lime Leaf Restutant in Basingstoke. Today we ordered a takeaway of Limeleaf platter for 2, Tom kha Kai (the white stuff), Chicken green curry, Three flavoured tofu, Stir-fried veg with oyster sauce, Egg noodles.

The Fox

Oakley and North Waltham, Basingstoke and Deane
13/12/2018: Always a great welcome. The perfect pub restaurant. Super food and beer. The venison and ale pie is all I could wish for. Well worth a serious deviation for the hungry traveller.
09/12/2018: Great food, great hospitality, great ale & they have a room for doggies. We went today as a family of 6 with 2 dogs. We all had a 3 course meal followed by coffees that come with a mince pie. Absolutely delightful every course was lovely. Thank you so much! Will be back again when we are down this way again

Dew Pond Restaurant

Burghclere, Highclere and St Mary Bourne, Basingstoke and Deane, >100£
16/12/2018: We had a surprise birthday lunch at the Dew Pond. Everyone had a fantastic day, the food and wine were great and the staff excellent looking after 40 guests with various dietary requirements perfectly. Have visited the Dew Pond several times over the years and have always had great experiences and this last one just reminded us we should go back more often.
16/12/2018: A wonderful family party at the Dew Pond, couldn’t have been more perfect. Staff incredibly attentive, food top notch and the atmosphere relaxing and welcoming. A real gem hidden away in the beautiful north Hampshire countryside

Glasshouse Restaurant

Oakley and North Waltham, Basingstoke and Deane, 30-45£
18/11/2018: I’m not one for writing bad reviews and I rather hope Chef was having an off-day because the experience leaves me with little to recommend.
02/11/2018: Old world type mansion/ estate, very pretty surroundings as well as building and decoration. Service very good, friendly and professional. High tea was delicious, excellent quality and nice variety of items. Very good vegetarian options. Would highly recommend for a fine dining experience or high tea on a special occasion. Good prices given the quality and atmosphere.
