The Green Man

Whittlesford, South Cambridgeshire, 20-30£
14/08/2019: My best friend and my sister visited here on 4th August, 2019. We were excited as the reviews looked amazing of this place especially since its local and I love trying out new places for a roast! The table setting was really pretty and our table was ready pretty early so this was a plus point. However, the quality of food overall was disappointing. I have tried many Sunday roasts and this one genuinely had no flavour. It felt very standard as the chicken was fairly dry, the vegetables had no taste to them as if they were purely boiled and the yorkshire pudding felt more like a dense cake instead of hollow and crispy. I asked my sibling and my friend the same question and they were very much in agreement. When we asked for more gravy the first time round, one of the ladies said we should try tasting what we have first as it was quite an intense gravy. When we tried it, we werent sure what she meant and requested more anyway. I did love the presentation and the people here are very friendly. I wish we had ordered something else instead of the roast as the rest of the menu actually looks amazing. But I am put off by the quality of the food and taste which ultimately is what you pay for. The average review is directed at the food and not the people as they are worth coming back for. So hospitality would be a 5/5 but food a 3/5. Probably wont be returning anytime soon sadly.
12/08/2019: Although we don’t live in Thriplow, it’s just a short drive from our nearby village, and since we moved to the area over three years ago, quickly became our first choice for a pub meal at any time or day. There is always a good choice of specials, as well as their regular selection of tapas type snacks which can easily be combined to make a very satisfactory meal. Knowing that some of their meat has been reared in the village makes it extra special and anything made from their wagyu beef is highly recommended. The service is great; food is freshly cooked and if you have children, there are books and games available to entertain them while waiting. If you haven’t booked (which is advisable due to its popularity), you can eat in the bar area and there are plenty of tables outside. They even supply warm blankets to keep you cosy outdoors! I’m delighted to see that they have recently opened a sister pub in Fowlmere which I hope will prove just as successful and provide an equally good menu, so we can be more sure of getting a table in one of the two venues!

La Pergola

Haslingfield and The Eversdens, South Cambridgeshire, 20-30£
14/08/2019: I am Italian and have been looking for that special Italian restaurant that provide excellent home made food and friendly service!! Wow I’ve found it Domenico and Rosa and Tony are it, finally food that is to die for and lovely polite friendly staff. I have recently dined at the famous villa d’Este in lake como but the mixed grill Rosa cooked for me this evening was much much better.
09/08/2019: The food in this restaurant was tasty and filling. However, the room is rather like a canteen. Bare white walls and noisy.

The Brickhouse

Sawston, South Cambridgeshire
12/07/2019: Ate breakfast here on both days of a 2 day trip, was very good. Service excellent and staff very friendly, well worth a visit.
08/07/2019: Reserved a table last minute for my daughters birthday breakfast and this is where she wanted to go! We heard great reviews about this little place. And it did not fail us atall! Greeted with a smile and a happy birthday for my daughter! Amazing service staff are so happy and friendly. Food was perfect. Recommended a visit if your in the village 100%. 10 out of 10 thankyou!!

The Chequers Pub

Gamlingay, South Cambridgeshire
06/08/2019: Bob Mitchell has a gem of a pub here. His "Son of Sid Brewery" turns out some lovely ales. Muck Cart Mild is proper. None of this Craft Ale with American Hops that tastes like a mix of Cillit Bang and TCP will be found here....
05/05/2019: I wish this pub were closer to my home - it's fully 14km away - as, from 20 years' experience, this is the epitome of a good village pub, run by the Mitchell family for many decades. The cliche is that a pub is the heart of the community but, in this case, that certainly applies. It has a very simple unfussy interior where the layout and atmosphere in the first and middle bars encourages conversation with friends or complete strangers. There is a large car-park but sadly it is no longer on a bus route. Many people come here for the home-brewed beer, which is exemplary and Bob (the owner/brewer) is always trying new recipes - though the English Ale (a light bitter) and the Muckcart Mild are perennial favourites. Food is largely confined to Friday nights, when the focus is on fish and chips, though other dishes are available. You should book in advance (24 hours or more) as the fish is bought in specially and fresh. As well as being beautifully cooked with splendid batter and chips, the side dishes (salad, coleslaw and mushy peas) are excellent. Maybe the most out-of-the-ordinary aspect is the homemade tartare sauce which Bob learnt from attending courses with Rick Stein and which raises the whole meal to a higher level still. Bob & Wendy will cater for special events too, which gives them scope to provide other dishes. We hosted a big family party (100 people) there recently and the hog-roast and salmon were given rave reviews from our guests, as were the salads, vegetarian dishes and their selection of pork pies etc (the latter bought in from a local specialist supplier). There is no doubt in my mind that this pub is 5-star and I recommend it heartily.

Dog and Duck

Linton, South Cambridgeshire
15/08/2019: We booked a table for Sunday lunch. 3pm and only one Lamb Rump available... That said, the lamb, roast beef & King prawn linguine were all excellent. Friendly and welcoming staff added to the occasion.
04/08/2019: We had gone to view houses in the village. Hot day so needed to be fed and watered. Almost past last lunch orders but staff were very obliging and did it all with a smile.

Papworth and Elsworth, South Cambridgeshire
14/08/2019: We had a wonderful experience as a family last night at Shilpa. The food was excellent, the service impeccable and the price fair. The children were very well looked after. We are very happy to have such a great Indian restaurant close by as it is so difficult to find.
10/08/2019: Went here with my partner last night.

The Chequers Public House

Orwell and Barrington, South Cambridgeshire, 30-45£
16/08/2019: David is the owner and the talented chef behind the restaurant. His wife Tina is also there to make your experience at the restaurant unforgettable.
11/08/2019: We live in the village and visit regularly. David’s food is exceptional, never had less than excellence. Good tight menu, high quality. They also have themed evenings including Chinese and Thai.

Pig and Abbot

The Mordens, South Cambridgeshire
12/08/2019: Visited with family and was truly delighted with the excellent menu . Food delicious , staff friendly and prices were good. Will visit again when in the area.
11/08/2019: Thank you to Pat and her team of staff who helped us out with my Mum's funeral lunch at short notice as the Three Tuns in Guilden Morden could not cope with a party of 30 so let us down.

Teacake at Shepreth

Meldreth, South Cambridgeshire, 45-60£
03/08/2019: Always a joy to have morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea at this little gem of a tea rooms. Sat in the garden for the first time this morning/lunch time and it was perfect. Peaceful surrounding, great food and attentive service. What more could you wish for? Very highly recommended.
28/07/2019: We woke up fancying a coffee and breakfast / brunch out, we googled for recommended cafes near Cambridge and found the Teacake, we were not disappointed. Great coffee and good choice of food options that we felt were slightly different to normal fare such as beans on toast with cheese, scrambed eggs on a muffin with mushroom... simple, light and tastey food. Lovely character to the place and well run with very good service; next time we will try the afternoon.tea

Rose and Crown

Histon and Impington, South Cambridgeshire
19/06/2019: He estado aquí varias veces y siempre una cálida bienvenida. . Pero tienen ofertas especiales
31/05/2019: Lovely Pub,lovely food and helpful friendly staff. At time of writing there is road works going so had to park near the green but that's fine and the pub really needs support as the owners get no compensation for the loss of trade due to all the work going on. So if you are near Histon and want great value for me make the effort to go to the Rose and Crown

The Three Horseshoes Graveley

Papworth and Elsworth, South Cambridgeshire
07/08/2019: I had heard some good things about the Three Horseshoes, my daughter went a couple of weeks earlier and said how good it was. Being on my doorstep i wondered how it had not caught my eye recently. A Sunday Carvery that didn’t disappoint. An array choice of meats and great veg. Highly recommended and will visit again.
09/07/2019: What a charming place!!! I came for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely wonderful. Everything very fresh and just a fantastic place to be , really homely but with staff who just know what they are doing . Will be back and will recommend.

Captains table St Ives cornwall

Duxford, South Cambridgeshire
11/08/2019: Excellent location - very quaint with exceptionally low ceilings but great atmosphere, food and hospitality. Topped off with free wine with two steak dinners - who could ask for more. 5star!
06/08/2019: Food was absolutely AMAZING! The lady was super friendly and gave us amazing advice on the food, we had never tried muscles before and were very keen and they were lovely. View from the table was gorgeous, looking out on to st ives. The little restaurant was so cute with little lights hung in the ceiling! Would 100% recommend and would definitely go back when we come to St ives next year :-).

Forum House

The Shelfords and Stapleford, South Cambridgeshire, 30-45£
12/08/2019: Really difficult to fault. Excellent food, service and value for money. If you haven't been yet, do your taste buds a favour!

The Three Horseshoes

Barton, South Cambridgeshire, 45-60£
17/08/2019: This is a beautiful place and absolutely immaculate but just missing the wow.
12/08/2019: Lunch was as usual good as was the service. The environment was nice even though we were in the bar rather than the restaurant, I think there was a function in the restaurant. It was disappointing that we were charged an extra £1.90 for not having ice in each coke that our designated driver had. The explanation was that as there was no ice out in they had to add more coke, this was coke from the pump.
