A lovely cafe with home cooked food. A hidden gem to be sought out, staff friendly and helpful and service excellent. Nothing too much trouble. Shelves of secondhand books, some rare and very old. Local artists sell and exhibit their wares in store. Handmade gifts to purchase. Prices reasonable.

I can only endorse what other reviewers here have said summed up with 'a hidden gem'. The setting is a bit incongrous but don't be deterred by that. Great out of Cambridge location too with plentiful parking. Food was spot-on and freshly cooked to order. Delicious cofee. All very tasty and affordable. Service was paced well too. Lots of cards and nick nacks that saved me a trip in to Cambridge for present shopping - that was an unexpected bonus. The cafe has areas which play host to community events too and, what's more, I discovered you can order books and pre-order forthcoming books. Such a great find. Will definitely return. Spread the word, folks. This place deserves to be successful.

What a quirky but friendly place. Tea is proper tea and a good variety of cake and other food items.

My daughter and I had been told about this unique little café by the local post lady and so we decided to pay a visit for a little recharge , the atmosphere when you enter this little Aladdin's cave is lovely very welcoming and friendly, the coffee is the best I have tasted for a very long time as was my daughters hot chocolate , really rich and chocolaty the home made cakes looked very tempting and so I succumbed to some flapjack, It was absolutely blissfully the right balance of sweet oat buttery-ness ( not that that word exists but describes it perfectly ! ) the menu offers everything home made and the home made soups sounded wonderful … another visit needed .. ... We were also impressed by the array of local crafts and handmade cards for sale , do visit this little gem you will not be disappointed and will receive the warmest of welcomes - highly recommended !

A friend took me out for coffee here - it was brilliant! Have fruit scone cream tea - and was surprised to find out afterwards it was gluten free! Tea provided in generous tea pots, giving a lovely excuse to stay extra time and browse the shelves of books. As an experienced book browser, it was an absolute delight to see old favourites mixed in with books I have never seen or heard of! Came away with an arm load of new fun to read!

Visited here the other week with a friend for a nice catch up. Some comfy seats, had a lovely bacon sandwich cooked to order and had some very yummy Victoria sponge cake! Such a lovely little place which is unlike any other I’ve been too. Definitely recommend.

I was looking for somewhere to have a cup of tea and a slice of cake, but it’s not so easy when you’re dairy intolerant. I was delighted to find a choice of lovely looking cakes and herbal teas I could have. I opted for the delicious lemon drizzle cake and forest fruits tea. The atmosphere and service were really friendly which is just what you want when you’re on your own. The decor was cosy and playful, not at all what you’d expect from the outside. There’s lots to look at and browse too. Well worth a look!

I heard about the Bookwarren through a friend and just loved it. I went with a family group including a little one and we were made very welcome. The food and drinks were lovely and the setting is just great, you are surrounded by books which you can look through and buy ( I picked up some real bargains). What a lovely start to the weekend, we will most certainly return, thanks Jill

I've had lunch here twice now and both times found the food very tasty and fresh. With the added bonus of being surrounded by second hand books in a relaxed atmosphere, this is a cafe worth visiting. A few other great shops on site too like Paula Armstrong Ceramics, the country stores and the butchers.

This newly opened book shop and cafe is a wonderful hidden gem. Really relaxed with some very yummy-looking cakes and scones not to mention fabulous breakfasts - the french toast with bacon and maple syrup was a wonderful Saturday morning treat! Excellent friendly service. Lovely to sit and browse through some of the thousands of diverse second-hand books whilst relaxing with an excellent cup of tea. The cheese and parsley scones looked so good that we bought some to take away with us (as well as a couple of books!) ...we were not disappointed!

Nice cafe to go to for a coffee and cake after a long walk around the country park. Great decking area to the side of the cafe and a lovely balcony at the back overlooking the lake.

My favourite place to visit when near Cambridge. You could not ask for a more quintessential pub experience than at Chequers in Fowlmere. Everyone here is so kind, generous, and social. Chris and Jade are the best - love me some Struan! Even visitors feel like they've been going to this pub for years and are just part of the whole crew. Can't think of a better place to celebrate a birthday with friends, have a pint with your best friend, or just enjoy some fantastic British food and drink. Can't wait to go back again!

It was a Thursday lunch time when I visited. It was quiet with only four or five other customers. I was served quickly by friendly staff. The cheese scone and cake were good as was the coffee. The prices were reasonable making it reasonable value for money. Free WiFi was available, always a plus. Quite nice smart rustic decore, if that is not a contradiction. There is also an outside area to sir. I feel a bit mean 'only" giving it four stars; my head says it deserved five but my heart stopped giving it the full quota of stars. I have visited several times since my first visit, the latest in January 2022. In this latest visit I had a cherry frangipane tart and it was sublime; a nice crispy crust, soft frangipani, plenty of succulent cherries and a delicious pastry base. For this reason I have increased my initial 4-star review up to five. July 2022 - still great. June 2023 - still just as good. September 2023 - still great.
