The best restaurants serving Default food in Dedham and Langham Colchester East of England

Surprising find in this pretty Suffolk village. Dedham has all the necessary shops, carefully positioned in original buildings, no garish signage here and The Old Bakery Cafe is no exception. It’s a somewhat spacious and neat enterprise tucked away on a corner with plenty of free parking to be had close by An instant recognition and friendly greeting from the staff, and neatly spaced out tables held menus for breakfast / brunch, lunch and then our eyes were taken by a cabinet of cakes for those there later for tea. There is no shortage of choice at TOBC. We ate two imaginative and well put together brunch dishes of back bacon, halloumi, chilli jam on sourdough toast with a good sprig of salad leaves, beetroot and baby tomatoes which made a substantial and reasonably priced dish. Excellent coffee too The staff, the menu and the presentation suited us down to the ground. You’ve got it bang-on

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!VIEWS, ATMOSPHERE & all the staff,I can't even start to describe them.Had a wedding there on the weekend & boy was it a place to remember.I've been to 3 & 4 star venues but I think this venue deserves a 5 *.I take my hat off to all the staff,working from the morning till nearly midnight and didn't show any signs of giving up.So much so,my wife & I asked for a cup of tea & we had it bought out to us without any hesitation!Loved every bit of it & I would recommend this venue for anyone!👍👍👍

Beautiful decorated hotel.lovely couple that run it.the breakfast was great..Will be back..beautiful village.

Had lunch here and then came back for the evening BBQ summer event. The lunch and BBQ were very well done. The service at both were good. Having lunch by the river was nice.

We had a great night at the Talbooth, the food was excellent, the best we have had in a long time. My husband had the crab and venison, I went for the vege option, the truffle pasta start and fig pudding was divine. The setting looks perfect on the pics, we were sat in a corner so did not see much of it. The service was good but not excellent, did I imagine the eye roll when I asked for the vegetarian menu? One waitress came over to ask why we were so quiet, we weren’t quiet just enjoying the food. We had a great night and I would go again, would be nice next time to be in a more characterful part of the building.

This was a lovely pretty tea room overlooking the high street. The staff were friendly and pleasant. The lunch menu was very varied and the food we ordered was of a very good standard.

This is welcome spot to refuel if you’re on the Constable walk. The service was prompt and friendly, the cafe was spotlessly clean and very pleasant to sit in, but sadly the food was pretty poor. A sweet potato and spinach slice was limp (possibly microwaved) and the salad although very fresh came with no trace nor offer of dressing. A little thought on how to improve the food would go a long way. I didn’t have any cake, but they did look really good.

Food was fantastic , all dishes , compliments to the chef! Staff were delightful too! The wine however is overpriced, when did two glasses of medium wine cost the same as a main dish ? Leaves a sour taste in your mouth even if the food was delicious !

Tom the bar man was very good. Friendly and helpful. Said I could the beer before deciding. The food was ok. My steak, which I was told had to be medium rare was served on a moderately warm plate with a useless steak knife although was tasty and good enough. Jenny had grey mullet which was good but the sweet corn in pasta was tough and almost inedible. The service was ok and they were very busy. Nobody asked if everything was ok.

Lovely cosy environment and great food as always. Been here many times and always have great service, food and company.

Nice buzzy atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was good- I enjoyed my starter of squash and feta cheese. The chicken for main was good as well. I was a bit disappointed with the Eton mess which seemed to have jam with the meringue and cream so it was too sweet. Compote is usually fresh fruit gently cooked? Not jam! Overall a nice evening. Great pub, good food. 4 friends ate here after golf. I had an excellent burger with bacon and cheese, one of my friends had the steak. Both were cooked really well and were very tasty. Can’t remember what the other 2 had but i know they loved it. Great service, the young lad that waited on us was friendly and efficient. The owner/boss was doing a sterling job operating as chef. Lots of beers, 3 real ales on draught to choose from. The wainwrights bitter was delicious. Price wise, typical pub prices, no problem there. Thanks very much to Sally and her team for looking after us so well.

Only lasted 20 mins as manager was rude to us and then got a parking fine for waiting! Appealed decision and it got rejected. Seems to be going downhill.

Lovely staff, very polite and helpful, but wrong meal arrived, my husband had finished his by the time the correct meal arrived. The hot meal was served on a cold plate and the food was not thoroughly heated. Not an enjoyable meal or experience. We were offered 1 x complimentary drink to compensate. :(
