A special Sunday lunch for 10 celebrating my parents’ 70th Anniversary and my mum’s 90th birthday. The food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were all so accommodating and kind, even down to my parents being offered a drink on the house, mum really enjoyed her whisky, brought quite a twinkle to her eyes, and sorting out the cake I’d taken. I can highly recommend The Black Dog and can’t thank the staff enough for helping to make our celebration lunch so memorable.

We had a table for five to celebrate my nephew's eighteenth birthday. Started off with a couple of drinks in the bar at the front and a game of pool waiting for everyone to arrive. Restaurant area was very spacious and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food we ordered was absolutely delicious. Each mouthful took me back to many a Mediterranean holiday. You couldn't deny the authentic flair. The chicken wings were unbelievable in flavour. We also ordered halloumi which was delicious with the chilli jam. The calamari never lasted two minutes on the table, I never had any but it smelled amazing. My nephew had the T Bone steak and again, cooked to perfection and was a very good sized and tasty piece of meat. I asked for a surprise and I got a mixed grill of which I was able to have my fill and take some home. Delicious salads, dips and flatbreads. Again, lovely, friendly and attentive staff and a great choice of food on the menu. The staff all came out to sing happy birthday at the end of the meal bringing out my nephew's birthday cake which we felt was another lovely touch. Recently having moved back to the village I'm just gutted we never went sooner. We need to make sure we do not lose this gem of a venue on our doorstep.

Our lovely friends treated us to this great place on a busy Friday night. From the warm welcome by the attentive, caring staff to the beautiful food this place offered a really good menu that catered for gluten free diners as well. Starters were Yorkshire baby beets, Bang Bang cauliflower and Honey, sliced figs with chicory, all superb. Mains fish and chips, game pie, blackened salmon and steak and ale pie. Nothing left on the plates, says it all So book as it’s a very good, chilled place with a great team of staff. Our first visit, but our friend’s regular haunt. Thank you.

One of the worst sunday lunches ever cold meat and veg burnt Yorkshire pudding sent it back to get warmed up came back couple minutes later still with the burnt Yorkshire pudding which was now like a rock not big or even medium portions found it expensive as were the drinks staff need to be trained in hygiene as every waiter and waitress were stroking customers dogs no apologies from waiting staff or management
