Great atmosphere, excellent friendly service by two young women. The ploughman's was huge, delicious and well worth the money. Also had a ham & cheese toastie, with fab chips.

The Priory restaurant at Burythorpe house offered us a marvellous lunch in every respect. The food was excellently cooked and presented. My starter of treacle-cured salmon with ginger dressing was refreshing and arranged beautifully on the plate with a type of rice cracker creation. Both our main courses were simple but cooked to perfection with fine attention to detail. I hope the chefs read this review. For dessert my partner had a sticky toffee pudding and said it was amazing, the best he had ever tested and I had a hard job keeping my hands off it, except mine was just as good - a ginger cake with rhubarb and white chocolate. It's hard to explain the depth of flavour, but in the case of the ginger cake, it came from contrasting textures and colours. For example, the fresh stewed rhubarb was accompanied by pureed rhubarb dressing the balls of white chocolate and little pieces of dried rhubarb creating a chewie, nuttier background flavour. These guys really know what they are doing. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and offered perfect service. The interior is elegant and unpretentious country house style. From the dining room we looked out onto fields with a church just visible in the distance. We will definitely go again. This place is only about 10 minutes drive from Malton and offers a far superior dining experience to more local pubs and restaurants.

Great Sunday lunch, delicious food for 6 people + 2 dogs (one who is very anxious/ reactive but was welcome and all the staff were very considerate and understanding). Will definitely be going back. Thank you!

We arrived at the Crown and Cushion with high hopes after a long walk (9 miles) but sadly the experience let us down badly. My flat iron steak was tasteless and run through with sinu. I took it home for the dog. My husband Chicken and Leek Pie was very strange looking but still edible. Food 1 out of 10 !!!!!!!!!!! To rub salt into the wound there was a 10% service charge😤 added automatically. The two girls who served us were lovely but we did ask for the service charge to be removed. Will never return. Next day after another long walk we went to the Blacksmiths Arms in Westow - had a completely different experience 10 out of 10 for food, service, atmos, price and no Service Charge !!!!! šŸ˜ŽšŸ˜Žā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļø

We had a very nice lunch with a friendly service from start to finish and good food. As another reviewer had commented, too many dogs, one in particular was very vociferous throughout our lunch. The owners were oblivious. We are dog lovers and have owned them in the past but we feel that everywhere you go to eat these days dogs are almost always allowed. The Courtyard Cafe has an outside seating area which ok isn’t great when it rains but please Castle Howard consider providing a dog free zone. Thank you.
