With the return of Sunday lunches @thehaughmond we couldn’t resist the chance to try it out. ⭐️5/5 Recommended👍🏻 Price 💸💸💸 Starters- The ham hock terrine was a real treat, adorned with micro herbs and pickled vegetables. The soft poached egg added a rich, luxurious touch. The cured sea trout, modestly paired with cucumber, allowed the fish’s natural flavour to shine, complemented perfectly by black treacle yogurt and crisp rye crackers. Main Courses- The roast sirloin of beef was beautifully pink, accompanied by a Yorkshire pudding. The Yorkshire pudding, while not the tastiest ever, was crispy and light. Although our personal preference would be for thinner slices, the generous portion of beef was satisfying. Roast pork shoulder, with its crispy crackling, offered great depth of flavour. It was refreshing to see this cut instead of the more commonly found pork loin on menus. Both meals were served with roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables, including heritage carrots and cauliflower cheese. The pork gravy was particularly moreish. Desserts- Staying true to tradition, we opted for desserts reminiscent of those your nan would make. The apple crumble with creme Anglaise was delightful, though it was a bit heavy on the apple and could have used more crumble to balance the stewed fruit. The indulgent sticky toffee pudding was surprisingly light, with a buttery toffee sauce that was simply a delight. The Haughmond offers a laid-back vibe for Sunday lunch. Despite being busy with diners, it never felt overwhelming, which added to the overall enjoyment of the meal. £42 for three courses, we felt represented good value given the standard of food and service provided. The portions might not be huge, but after three courses, we certainly didn’t leave hungry. Clearly, the decision to return to serving Sunday lunch was a popular choice, and we left feeling very satisfied. Back at the Top of Its Game with great food, attentive service, and a relaxed ambiance.

We called into the Wingfield Arms on the off chance there would space for us to have Sunday lunch. The staff found us a table straight away, it was a Carvery, Gammon, beef and turkey, I had a bit of everything my partner had the beef, lots of vegetables and potatoes to choose from. Everything was cooked well and tasted nice, gravy was lovely. Also a choice of desserts. The restaurant was quite empty but it was later in the day. We will definitely be returning. Good value for money.

The Haughmond has much to recommend it, from the warm welcome from Mel and her team, to one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had - amazing eggs and a special breakfast board full of treats ahead of the main event - we forgot to ask where the eggs were from. We stayed in the Muntjac room - facilities were fine, bed was comfy, lovely views over the fields towards the Wreakin. We ate in the in-house restaurant in the evening . Food cooked by Mel’s husband was really very good - we both had French onion soup followed by cod. The wine was also delicious and reasonably priced. Service again was friendly, warm and attentive . Can’t fault this place for the price - definitely recommend for a lovely night away in the country that won't break the bank - we combined it with a trip to Shrewsbury which is around 15 mins drive away.

Good service, variety of coffee and a very interesting ancient ( probably 400 years old ) building. Special interest for tourists.
