Stayed in this fantastic inn for one night. Room was very comfortable and clean whilst the location is superb. Great atmosphere at dinner and the breakfast was fantastic, the complimentary pastel de nata was so unexpected, but so good. All staff were welcoming and helpful, i’d love to stay again when back in the area.

I think this was our third meal here and it was as excellent as we remembered. The Haughmond provides really high quality food, beautifully presented and has very friendly staff. For the quality of cooking on offer the prices are reasonable too. The desserts in particular might have been the highlight even, so fresh and delicious.

This place spoilt my 69th birthday. The food was mediocre the service was aggressive and considering I had booked a table for 10 an hours drive away because of the reviews I was devastated. We kept trying to order wine and they only had one bottle of each and when we complained that one wasn’t up to standard were told it was a matter of taste. We then found out it was changing hands the next day so I hope it is changing staff too. £800 for a really poor lunch was not what I had imagined . Don’t waste your money , I have no idea where these other reviews came from. I feel very sorry for the new owners. I never write negative reviews but this was dreadful, thank goodness for understanding friends.

BEWARE of cancellation fees! What was supposed to be a birthday celebration ended up leaving a bad taste in the mouth. We booked for 5 people. As one person was getting picked up he fell down some steps and his partner had to take him to A & E. My sister explained this on arrival and was told we would have to pay the cancellation fee. I had made the booking and at no point was I made aware of cancellation fees. I expected it to be a couple of pounds tops. On getting the bill, I noted that had a £15 per person cancellation fee I.e. £30 had been applied. A discretionary 10% service charge was also added. Therefore the cancellation charges and service charges totalled around £50. I never have disputed the service charge before and I am always a healthy tipper. Sadly, due to the cancellation charges being applied I asked for the service charge to be removed. I was treating the couple with me to a birthday lunch and simply couldn’t afford £50 on top of an already substantial bill(£176) and it’s not as if I can ask someone who went to hospital for their restaurant charges - a tad insensitive! The female with glasses, who seemed to be in a supervisory role, explained that cancellation charges were needed as ‘hospitality is dying on its arse’ and lots of restaurants are taking this approach. She said ‘We’ve bought the food, we’ve cooked the food, if people don’t turn up someone has to pay for it’. She was verging on rude and was certainly unpleasant and offhand. And since we hadn’t pre booked I really don’t accept that. She also pointed out that the website states the charge and that it is actually £25 per person (I don’t know why or how the decision was made to charge us £15 but clearly there is managers discretion). I told her that I felt a £15 pp charge in the circumstances seemed harsh and also that the £30 should not be included when totalling the bill and then applying the 10% service charge. - to which her response was ‘well, it’s only £3’. Of course, according to the website - within the information section - then terms and conditions section - she is quite right that this is what it says (who reads terms and conditions when booking lunch though?!), however there is clearly scope to apply discretion and indeed when we were discussing the issue she pointed out that if we had we informed her earlier - even when we were on the way - so that she could have changed the table, she could have waived the charge. She made the case that potentially they had lost money because we were at a table for 5 with 3 people. The fall happened 25 minutes before arriving so I think suggesting this would have given them time to accept a sudden booking and reassign the table is disingenuous. I eat out regularly - in other words I am very much supporting the ‘dying on its arse’ hospitality industry - but that said, I don’t think many people these days have money to waste and I have never experienced anything like this before. The food was great and the waiting on staff were fine as well but I won’t be back. Clearly there is scope for discretion and the supervisor chose not to apply it for us, which of course is her prerogative. But in doing so she has alienated people who would have returned for another visit so applying this policy is most definitely not helping the business. I do think it was telling that the manager said that the waiting staff do receive the service charge and she could remove it as requested but the staff did appreciate it, which felt very much like she was trying to guilt trip me. I almost said that perhaps she could perhaps give them the cancellation charge instead as she didn’t seem to have thought of that herself. Make your own mind up - I’m just writing this review to make people aware of this charge. I can see other reviews saying similar things so it looks like nothing will change. We all have choices - I will choose to spend my money elsewhere.

The Haughmond has much to recommend it, from the warm welcome from Mel and her team, to one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had - amazing eggs and a special breakfast board full of treats ahead of the main event - we forgot to ask where the eggs were from. We stayed in the Muntjac room - facilities were fine, bed was comfy, lovely views over the fields towards the Wreakin. We ate in the in-house restaurant in the evening . Food cooked by Mel’s husband was really very good - we both had French onion soup followed by cod. The wine was also delicious and reasonably priced. Service again was friendly, warm and attentive . Can’t fault this place for the price - definitely recommend for a lovely night away in the country that won't break the bank - we combined it with a trip to Shrewsbury which is around 15 mins drive away.

From the moment we were greeted we knew we were going to have a great meal. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. The food was beautifully presented without being over fussy. We felt like we had plenty of time between courses without feeling rushed but neither were we left unattended. The food ( the reason for our visit) was amazing, stunning to look at, but most importantly tasting just as good as it looked. Definitely worth many return visits.

The location of the hotel is spectacular. So peaceful. The good points; the staff could not do enough, they were perfect. The food - I had the cod and it was cooked well but not sure about the warm tartar sauce. The dessert - a set cream was the best dessert I have had in a long time. Breakfast was good - I had the porridge which saw me through past lunchtime. So the food and the service were good. The following is subjective - on entering the hotel there was a distinct smell of drains. The doors to the rooms have to be slammed shut otherwise they will not lock. The 2 rooms I went into were bijoux but they have to fit into the existing structure so I would expect that. The beds were very uncomfortable. The mattresses failed to give much support and it felt like you were sleeping on the base of the bed. The stairs up to the rooms are quite steep and support is only on one side and would not be suitable for anyone with moderate to severe physical difficulties - however they do offer rooms on the ground floor.

We visited this restaurant on our monthly date night. I found it in the good food guide so had high expectations. I’m glad to say that I was not disappointed. From arriving to a friendly welcome to finishing my meal with a coffee it was superb. The service was attentive without being overbearing. The food was outstanding. Full of flavour and expertly cooked and presented. Everything had flavour in abundance. We look forward to returning.

We visited The Haughmond in December for lunch. We had been previously in the same month and decided to revisit, despite some of the service team being a little brusque, as the food was super. We left sadly disappointed. Once again we found one or two of the service team to be a little aloof. It is obvious (and right) that there are a lot of local villagers who come to The Haughmond and the best welcome and service is lavished on them. 'If you're in, you're in' :-) On the whole, the ambience, service and food are very good - but if you are going to visit please ensure you request NOT to be seated at the table behind the bar, next to the kitchen service door. It is quite the worst able I have been seated at and totally ruined our lunch. The table is next to the kitchen door where the service team run their constant deliveries to the main restaurant - which you cannot see or enjoy the ambience of as you are seated well away from the main body of the restaurant. There is constant chatter from the kitchen and service team as well as having the main cutlery draw nearby and also the coffee station - more chatter. I even got the Gavin and Stacey spoiler whilst one particular cappucino was being created. It is such a shame as the potential for this pub / restaurant to be amazing is spoiled by one or two of the service team and that damn awful table.

The Haughmond continues to be excellent, with fantastic food, fast, efficient service, delivered with a smile. The pub deserves to be recognised as one of the best pub/restaurants in the Shrewsbury area which is owned and run by the landlords.

Very slow. Two cooked breakfasts arrived and we were then told they had no black pudding. Toast arrived some time after and tomatoes turned up randomly 5 minutes later. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg arrived 10 minutes after other meals with no brown toast. When I asked for it was told it was a side order. Checked the menu and it said should be on toast so requested again. By the time it arrived I had eaten everything else to stop egg going cold as it took 7 minutes. Not very impressed with quality of bacon or sausages.

Stopped here for a coffee and sandwich on a bike ride. Apart from being overcharged(again) the sandwich was poor. The bread was stale and the crusts were inedible. Think they freeze the bread and microwave it to thaw. Need some quality control on service and food.

I regularly call here on a cycle ride. If I do one of my favourite routes this is about two thirds of the way on a 100km ride. Justifies a stop for excellent coffee and a Rocky Road, or other excellent cake. Everything here is perfect for cyclists beginning with the cycle racks outside, and the warm and friendly welcome. Scenery and cycle routes are all good.

Had a great ice cream and family had a curry sausage roll which I personally think tasted like onion but that’s just down to taste and everyone else liked it. My only one criticism is it was a hot day and I just wanted a cold apple juice nothing fizzy but had to end up with a room temperature sprite and I was kind of disappointed as they could of just put a few fruit shoots in the fridge.

Purchased gift vouchers with no terms and conditions nor an expiry date. Went to use the £30 voucher and would not honour. What a waste of money! I suggest you either add t&cs or an expiry date.

During the lockdown when queuing outside supermarkets was becoming very tiresome I checked whether this farm shop was open. It was and i took the short drive. Amazingly it had flour! As well as the fresh vegetables and free range eggs I needed I was able to get a drink and relax on the bench outside, the only time I had a cup of tea away from home. They had managed the corona security well with an entrance and exit door and distance marking and accept contactless payment for even small purchases. I can't wait until they reopen for afternoon teas.

A lovely B&B in a great location. The owners Jane and Nigel were very accommodating, we arrived late but Jane went above and beyond to ensure we had our room key. Our room was small but clean and we had a lovely home cooked English breakfast included within the price which was great value for money. Nigel even gave us a lift to our car the next morning when we were unable to get a taxi! Highly recommended!

We have been visiting Odfellows for over 8 years now and have never been disappointed! We reserved a table for 21st August for my Father in Laws birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted by Danielle and her colleague who were - as always - great! We had 2 x Lamb roast dinners and Fish and Chips for our mains, along with some tasty starters and deserts! As always the food and service was 10/10, we can not fault a single visit to Odfellows! As a local, I always recommend to everyone that we meet, and hopefully they will also attract some new custom from further afield!

We enjoyed our Sunday carvery and will be back for another carvery soon. Generous portions and a good selection of veg. We had a look at the food menu for when it’s not a carvery and a mix of Indian and typical pub menu so will come try that sometime too.
