Lovely little pub packed with history, well worth having a little walk around looking at the original features & how well renovated it is. Only called in for a drink but had a nice chat with the new owners who said they’d just taken over, very welcoming and friendly.

Other than the friendly staff and quick-ish service, the food was a complete let down, the menus had food that wasn't even available according to the chef. Then, the Sunday roast was an appalling effort and an insult to the roast name. The meat was overcooked, and the portions were tiny for the price. Then, just as we started to eat, they put music on that loud. You couldn't hear your own parties conversation across the table. I understand music is normal in a pub, but when my family was the only people in there, why have loud music blaring deafening you. Well, well, well..The dessert, what a disappointment.. cold sticky toffee pudding with cold custard. Sloppy Chocolate fudge cake. We've spent almost £100 and would have received a better service and food from mcdonald's PLEASE STAY AWAY !!!!!

The Kings Head is a traditional unspoilt pub with an excellent range of beers, lager and cider, including cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales. The cask ales were in excellent condition when we visited. An interesting feature of this pub is the medieval wall painting recently discovered in the bar. The staff are very friendly and welcoming the pub is definitely worth visiting.

We called in for a quick drink whilst on a few days visiting Shrewsbury. We were taken back how reasonable the drinks were compared to a few places we visited. The staff made myself, my husband and especially our dog super welcome they were soo accommodating. The pub is absolutely beautiful inside, every corner holds its history the place was spotless. Wish we had found it on our first day. There is a little beer garden out the back but to sit inside and savour the place is a must. Keep up the great work guys and thankyou for all the hard work making it a superb place to visit.

I've lived in Shewsbury for many years and have seen this pub change hands on numerous occasions. I'd heard that it was under new management again and some friends and I had arranged to meet there for a drink before going over the road to have a curry. I walked in and looked for my friends but they were not there. I had a look out the back seating area and they were not there either. I decided to make use of the bathrrom while there and got a very hostile approach from the bar man/landlord when I walked back in to the main bar. He said "So, you've walked in to my house, gone to use the bathroom and not even bought a drink! How would you feel if I walked in to your house, used the loo and then left!" I thought he was joking to begin with, but apparently not. I won't be going there again, even just to use the bathroom. I shall disuade any friends or family from visiting there too. You work in a service industry, try serving your customers better, even if they don't buy a drink this time round. Shocking!

Somewhat disappointed. Often wanted to visit when passing but living in Derby, decided to call in for lunch on route to Shrewsbury Town v Derby County match day. Made a point of coming into the town centre to park up and visit. After ordering drinks we asked about food only to be told "No food today", no explanation. Not put off we decided to call in after the game and walked back into the town only to be told at 6.50 "we can't serve you as we are serving no more drinks!!" at 6.50 on a Saturday evening?? No explanation. Shame when you travel 120 mile round trip planning to support local business and might have as well gone to a Wetherspoons! Otherwise it seemed a very ambient pub where we would have liked to have enjoyed spending time in

We walked in and there were no other customers to be seen, a little unsure of what to expect we ordered drinks and 2 beef dinners. We were pleasantly surprised, the veg and broccoli/cauliflower cheese came on a sharing plate. The beef, roast potatoes and parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, along with a sausage and stuffing arrived on our plates. Food was delicious and there was more than enough. A very enjoyable Sunday lunch

Visited Shrewsbury whilst on holiday and spotted this beautiful old style pub, full of character so we decided to stop for a bite (3 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs). As we got inside, first impression was not welcoming at all, not even a hello or good afternoon. The chef and bar lady glared at us and made us feel like we were imposing. The restaurant was completely empty. While standing, for what seemed ages, my husband had to ask where we can sit as we had 2 dogs. The barmaid replied with 'anywhere' as if he asked a stupid question. So we took our seats, sat for a bit, got fed up waiting for menu so I went to ask, the bar maid said" they should be on the table, there's only one lasagne left". So considering the poor choices on menu, the attitude from the staff, we left. No wonder the place was empty. A fresher course on customer service is long overdue. Shame, such a beautiful building.

We tried to have a drink in this place, but as I finished a phone call just outside the entrance, my husband was inexplicably denied service for daring to order a drink for me when I wasn't stood right next to him. The disgustingly rude 'landlady' (I use the term loosely) said that he couldn't order two drinks because she 'hadn't seen his girlfriend'. What??? Actually we are 44 and 43, and have been married for 15 years but I fail to see what business of hers this is??? My husband had to come back outside to me and ask me to go and prove that we were together which is frankly preposterous. I did so and asked her why my husband had been refused service of two pints of lager for failing to prove that he had a partner and was met with the rudest woman in in the world. She was slurring her words and I am convinced that she was drunk to be honest. She asked me to go and discuss it outside the pub- charming- which I did and while outside she continued her rude ranting, then said 'are you coming in to look at the old artwork or not?' We declined as she was obviously disturbed, then she retorted that she 'didn't want to serve us anyway' and wobbled off back inside. Wow. Just wow. Clearly cut out for a job in customer service, aren't you Kate? AVOID this place if want a pleasant drink.
