We had the tasting menu on a Sunday night, which in most places on a Sunday the passion and enthusiasm for guests is often not there. Here however the food was outstanding, the service first class. Nothing was to much trouble. Just right for a birthday getaway. I would quite happily come back and eat everyday! The taste, presentation and portion sizes were just perfect. Congratulations to the whole team.

It would be very difficult to find a better eating place in the Forest of Dean! My friend today ( who was visiting from outside the area ) firmly declared that it was one of the best Sunday lunches she had ever had - anywhere! The service, presentation and quality of food all contributed to a lovely experience. The place is spotlessly clean and staff are attentive and friendly without being overbearing. We were seated immediately on arrival and drinks order taken and delivered promptly. Hot plates were also delivered! Absolutely every food item delivered was perfectly presented and cooked to perfection - portions we’re extremely generous and amazing value for money. We simply cannot praise the staff enough for all the efforts they make at The Miners to give diners such a great experience.

7.45pm on a Saturday night. Was told Chef was leaving now and there was a limited menu. Ordered a fish butty. Not quite what I wanted but limited menu now. The fish wasn't cooked properly. Grey and translucent. I said ' am happy to pay for it and don't want anything else. ' The Landlady stuck her fingers in it and rubbed the fish between her fingers in front of me. No .' it's overcooked she said. Disgusting. No customer acknowledgement or even nicety. I Asked to pay and waited . Offered some discount. Courtesy and etiquette not found here.

Personally I think this place is excessively priced for the facilities and the reasons I will share with you. Importantly we were looked after by Summer, the young lady was polite, very helpful and efficient and is an asset to this establishment . We note that the bar closes at 5pm so you will have to go to the pub over the road . The Butchers for drinks . You are not allowed to bring drinks back to this hotel unless you want to be fined £600 ! The nearest town is 12 mins drive away in Coleford. I advise you book a table if eating out as everywhere is always busy. I advise you check your beds and rooms upon arrival. Sadly our room was ready but we found dirty underwear in our bed so had to request housekeeping to completely change our sheets , even though it had been done . The rooms are small but functional . Breakfast is comprised of a bacon or sausage bap, cereal , tea coffee and toast . No fry up here. So eat plenty because if your going up to the Castle for a wedding you will not have access to food until after the speeches which may be late afternoon. My advice is keep some snacks and things in your boot for emergencies . Breakfast is very early as is the 10am checkout time. Small free car park at the back. Like I said at the beginning I think it is overpriced as there are some local Inns nearby that may offer much more for your money.
