The dinner was one of the most inventive, delicious meals we have ever eaten. Faultless, understated and fantastic. Service was unobtrusive and efficient with a very simple, good wine list

Great service at the minors sling. We stayed here for a night as we were in the area. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, the menu was plentiful and the food was really nice quality. Breakfast was good too. Well worth staying and a nice environment

7.45pm on a Saturday night. Was told Chef was leaving now and there was a limited menu. Ordered a fish butty. Not quite what I wanted but limited menu now. The fish wasn't cooked properly. Grey and translucent. I said ' am happy to pay for it and don't want anything else. ' The Landlady stuck her fingers in it and rubbed the fish between her fingers in front of me. No .' it's overcooked she said. Disgusting. No customer acknowledgement or even nicety. I Asked to pay and waited . Offered some discount. Courtesy and etiquette not found here.

Personally I think this place is excessively priced for the facilities and the reasons I will share with you. Importantly we were looked after by Summer, the young lady was polite, very helpful and efficient and is an asset to this establishment . We note that the bar closes at 5pm so you will have to go to the pub over the road . The Butchers for drinks . You are not allowed to bring drinks back to this hotel unless you want to be fined £600 ! The nearest town is 12 mins drive away in Coleford. I advise you book a table if eating out as everywhere is always busy. I advise you check your beds and rooms upon arrival. Sadly our room was ready but we found dirty underwear in our bed so had to request housekeeping to completely change our sheets , even though it had been done . The rooms are small but functional . Breakfast is comprised of a bacon or sausage bap, cereal , tea coffee and toast . No fry up here. So eat plenty because if your going up to the Castle for a wedding you will not have access to food until after the speeches which may be late afternoon. My advice is keep some snacks and things in your boot for emergencies . Breakfast is very early as is the 10am checkout time. Small free car park at the back. Like I said at the beginning I think it is overpriced as there are some local Inns nearby that may offer much more for your money.
