This is the second time we have visited The Miners Sling and sadly, this visit was not as good as the previous one. The food was ok but they only had one bread left and this was prior to 7pm so our ploughman's lunch was rather lacking in something to eat the cheddar with. Maybe a few crackers would have been a helpful accompaniment to the one piece of bread provided? Service was tardy too. Shame.

Sunday lunch was excellent. Great roast beef and roasties and a magnificent spread of vegetables. A good price and exemplary service. With a great pudding to follow. What's not to like?

The Sunday lunch was absolutely fantastic, generous serving of beef and seasonal veg cooked perfectly, plus our son particularly liked his popcorn pudding, friendly staff.

Personally I think this place is excessively priced for the facilities and the reasons I will share with you. Importantly we were looked after by Summer, the young lady was polite, very helpful and efficient and is an asset to this establishment . We note that the bar closes at 5pm so you will have to go to the pub over the road . The Butchers for drinks . You are not allowed to bring drinks back to this hotel unless you want to be fined £600 ! The nearest town is 12 mins drive away in Coleford. I advise you book a table if eating out as everywhere is always busy. I advise you check your beds and rooms upon arrival. Sadly our room was ready but we found dirty underwear in our bed so had to request housekeeping to completely change our sheets , even though it had been done . The rooms are small but functional . Breakfast is comprised of a bacon or sausage bap, cereal , tea coffee and toast . No fry up here. So eat plenty because if your going up to the Castle for a wedding you will not have access to food until after the speeches which may be late afternoon. My advice is keep some snacks and things in your boot for emergencies . Breakfast is very early as is the 10am checkout time. Small free car park at the back. Like I said at the beginning I think it is overpriced as there are some local Inns nearby that may offer much more for your money.
