Great service at the minors sling. We stayed here for a night as we were in the area. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, the menu was plentiful and the food was really nice quality. Breakfast was good too. Well worth staying and a nice environment

We were staying in the local area and booked for dinner. We took our dog and the staff were so accommodating. The food was fantastic, we had the steak and the beef shin suet pie- delicious. This place is such good value for money too. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area, lots of parking too.

Meal was absolutely delicious. Recommend the 2 steaks for £30 Booking essential for a Saturday night, especially if you have a dog. Wait staff very friends and quick service

The pub was lovely inside and spacious. The staff were super welcoming and helpful. There was a nice selection of wine and food. I had seafood cocktail to start, husband had the mussels, they were the best we have had at a pub in the uk! I had haddock and chips which was so light and perfectly cooked with nice minted peas. Husband had a really great burger! Definitely recommend this place for food and come back again!

Nice friendly gastro-pub in the heart of the Forest of Dean. Spacious car park. Very helpful staff. Food was good but beware the portions are huge! My dear lady was shocked by the massive bowl of mussels and wished that she had ordered a starter sized portion. The Sunday lunch is legendary with booking required and we will be back!

We booked a Saturday night meal in the restaurant and were delighted with the experience. The food, especially the rump stakes were exceptional in quality, and reasonably priced. There were plenty of staff who all appeared to have the proper ethos of customer service. No complaints whatsoever, all very positive.

Very disappointed, booked a table two weeks in advance for Valentine’s Day, when we arrived were seated in the bar next to the toilet. We expressed we were not happy with this, but were dismissed and told the bookings were allocated randomly. Then watched three couples after us be seated in the restaurant. They could have moved us but the waitress couldn’t care less. When you book for restaurant that is where you expect to be, they were overbooking to make more money without letting anyone know. Only one vegetarian option. Wouldn’t go again.

We have been visiting The Miners Arms in Sling for about 9 years to enjoy their food. However it has recently let standards and portions fall dramatically! When we first used to visit to eat, you were always given a small board of nibbles to enjoy while you chose. By last year this had disappeared, and portions started to get smaller and more expensive. When we visited earlier this year, I can only describe the portions as miserly! You could chose Fishcakes as a starter or main. My wife decided to chose them as a main. What came was not what we are used to as fishcakes, but were about 8 fish balls about 20 - 25 millimetres across. The difference between a starter and a main was the addition of 3 boiled potatoes! I went for lasagne, which cam in a tiny pan and was accompanies for a small bowl of rocket leaves, one slice of beetroot and one slice of tomatoe! If it had come with the usual portion of chips it might just have made a main course. The mice was stuck together in lumps so had clearly not been stirred and mixed properly with the sauce while cooking. A very disappointing visit after all these years. Seems like another business that has taken advantage of inflation and the economic re-set to minimise portions and maximise price. Despite the lovely staff and their service we ill not be returning to The Miners again, it has completely gone down hill on value for money. We had to go to the chip shop in Coleford to top up for the lack of a proper meal!

Stayed on a Monday night while visiting family near by. What a find!! Lovely rooms and great food being served on the "pot luck " half price Monday evening service. Staff were friendly and efficient , nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent, localy sourced bacon and sausages which tasted superb. Best breakfasts we have had while staying away for a long time. We will definitely be staying here again when visiting family in the Forest.

Booked this hotel as it’s nice and central to my family & the mountain bike centre. Very comfortable hotel and staff helpful & friendly. Had a small issue after checking in but the staff quickly dealt with the issue. Breakfast was one of the best very filling and fresh local produce. Could do with some more comfortable seating just for bar use but that’s not a major problem. Plenty of parking as well. Definitely visit again when back in the Forest

Stayed on a Monday night and had the "potluck" dinner at The Miners. This is a really good idea - the bar owners buy leftover stock from local producers and make a quality meal at a very reasonable price out of whatever they happen to get. The owners and staff are lovely and our room was attractive and spotless. Would definitely recommend.

We visited as a family. We were seated quickly and three of us ordered steak. The two sirloin steaks were good but not great and the waiting staff couldn’t remember which was the rare and which was the medium rare, switching plates more than once. My son ended up scoffing my rare steak without realising. The main issue however was that my husband was served an ‘off’ steak. The meat smelled a bit odd but he tried it anyway and the meat had gone bad. These things happen and we simply asked politely for it to be changed,but the waitress was very dismissive and didn’t apologise once. We weren’t charged but a simple apology on behalf of the kitchen and a timely replacement would have been all that was required. The replacement was slow and delivery was surly. The rest of us has finished and tue atmosphere ruined by the time it arrived and so the dog ended up with most of the (perfectly acceptable) replacement steak.

Wonderful Sunday lunch. There were four of us and we all opted for the beef which was brought to the table for us to carve ourselves. We had asked for it pink and it was. It melted in our mouths! We had proper roast potatoes, new potatoes and a good selection of veg as well as Yorkshire puds and proper gravy. All was lovely and the staff were friendly and efficient. We couldn’t fault anything and it was good value too. I just wished I lived round here as I would certainly be a regular.

We went with some local friends who have been before and they booked Sunday lunch. It was amazing, excellent roast chicken and the trimmings. The red cabbage was lovely and wonderfully crisp roast potatoes. My husband had the veggie option of apricot and veg crumble which he said was very good. The other delightful thing that we could do was take our dog with us, who I have to say behaved impeccably. Well recommended.

We booked The Miners Sling for dinner when staying in the local area and were blown away by the quality and presentation of the food. Absolutely the best pub food we’ve had in a long time. I am gluten free (coeliac) and was really well catered for. The pub has separate fryers and can do gf scampi and fish & chips plus lots of other dishes. We had our naughty puppy with us who was well received despite being damp and cheeky! We had to return the next day to try the ploughman’s for lunch and it was fabulous. Really fantastic value and the chutneys were great.

So glad we came here for our anniversary lunch with our dog while holidaying in the area. Could not fault the service or the food. We shared The Miner's Picnic Board - wow it was delicious. The rustic chips were tasty too. Great selection of mocktails too. Clean well decorated toilets - which say a lot about a pub I think.

Half price Monday such good value and no compromise on quality of food. Had 3 courses all delicious, no complaints. Easy parking, easy access, attentive staff. Sunday roast at the miners sling was lovely plenty of food, one criticism deserts menu very limited with none of the favourites available, ie fruit crumbles sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake.

Booked following a recommendation from local shopkeeper.... Not disappointed, friendly attentive staff, good quality ingredients, and portion sizes, and to top it off it was 50% off on a Monday, what's not to like!

We just had a fabulous meal here this evening. The staff are very friendly and we had a great welcome. It gets booked up so you need to make a booking. They have different meal deals. Eg Monday night half price. Thursday night as well as their normal menu they do a £10 meal. Another evening they do fish and chips and Friday is a steak night. I had the duck breast which I received two that were cooked to perfection. My partner had the fish and chips which he throughly enjoyed. The presentation of both was really well done. I would definitely recommend the pub.

Customer service needs improvement. Asked the young lady behind the bar if we could sit outside (as usual) was told not serving outside today and no room for dogs in the pub. So we left. The lady was cold and unresponsive , a smile wouldn't have gone a miss or maybe just accommodate a reasonable customer request. Monthly treat will be at the Orlepool just a few hundred yards up the road, looked extremely busy! Thank you!
