Stayed here overnight as was attending a gig at Reeth, a short walk from The Bridge. Staff are very friendly and accommodated a fast and early dinner service so we could get to our gig on time. Food was hearty, good old fashioned pub food. Cask beer was excellent and open fire loved by punters and dogs. Room was basic but clean and had everything I could have asked for

Have been hoping to dine at the pub for a few years and finally got around to going but we were most disappointed so won’t be returning. We came for a meal and ordered our meals three were ok (but not great for the price) the fourth (beef lasagne with a whole garlic bread baguette that was not pleasantly presented) was not, it didn’t look or taste right (we all tasted it) it just seemed to very wet and full of liquid (possible cream). So we got it sent back and then were rushed into selecting another meal the Chequers roast chicken salad. Which just turned out very badly presented with full (not cut up) lettuce leaves and chicken on the born mixed in the the salad like it was from another meal. We then gave up and when the waitress returned we complained and then the chef/owner came out with a attitude saying that was how salads were done and no details on the menu suggested it was bornless chicken. He walked off and when asked if we get any reduction his reply was “no you will pay the full bill” The bill then had additional chargers for the omelette fillings that were not stated on the menu. After further complaints, the chef/owner removed these charges but no additional reductions are offered. For most restaurants/pubs/cafes where I have received one poor meal I would try again however I will not be returning ever again as we all were most disappointed and shocked by the service and very rude chef/owner.

Sunday Lunch for 5 as a last minute idea, we decided to go local. Despite living less than 10 miles from Great Hockham, I had never been to the village and a charming place it turned out to be. The food was traditional pub grub and the portions huge. Service was great and friendly and the meals fantastic. Unfortunately due to a upcoming holiday to Portugal we were all not drinking bar one of our number but we will make up for that at our next visit as there was a good choice of ale, which the locals seemed happy with! Well worth a look!
