First visit to what was a handy pub after a walk at Carsington water. My wife and I and our K9 were glad to come across this fab old inn and we were not disappointed on arrival inside, The fire was roaring and the greeting matched the warmth it gave off. First a pint of Guinness and a Pinot to get started while we were seated next to the fire. The menu was varied and suited both a lite bite or those heading for a three course meal. We opted for a starter to share of Flat bread and a red pepper hummus, Home made I would say, full of flavour and a decent portion that we were able to share. Seconds resulted in an egg mayonnaise and chive cob for the lady and myself a roast beef and red onion relish cob, bothe came with a pot of home cut fries, thick cut , Yes, but cooked so as to be crispy on the outside but perfectly soft inners. You can tell a lot from the prep of the humble chip. My wife raised comment as to the quality of her meal, but it was my roast beef I would draw attention to, Quarter inch thick atrips of moist and succulent beef, tender and dressed with the perfect amount of the delicious chutney. All in all ,by now I was least to say ,more than satisfied that the chef was on point, but then our smiling server arrived on qué to see if any desert was required. I am a sucker with a sweet tooth and the special board showed coffee(fresh) and cake as an option. My wife enquired and the result of the cake of the day being Lemon drizzle, sealed the deal. The server did warn that it was just out of the oven but would check with chef if it was servable. We were prepared to take it even if it was still radiating heat like the fire we sat next to but not to worry, it came out, a generous slice and was well, the icing on the cake to end the experience at the Knocker down. All in all a fantastic end to a great day, unexpected but an all around Great experience. Thank you to all the team, Def be back A*

Staying in village for weekend so booked in for Friday lunch - did not disappoint- quaint little looking pub but what a lovely place! Food - well above average/expected , beers - really good choice including zero Guinness for the driver, atmosphere is so nice, warm and relaxing.

We have eaten here on numerous occasions and never been disappointed. The menu is varied and not expensive. It was a very busy day but the staff were professional, helpful and efficient. The food was well presented and tasty. recommended.

We visited based as we were staying nearby and based on the great Tripadvisor reviews. We were not disappointed! The pub itself is beautiful and such a lovely atmosphere with its roaring fire. Recommend to book a table as it’s fairly limited on tables. The staff were really friendly. My husband had the steak and said the dauphinoise potatoes were the best he’s ever tasted (he’s had a lot of them!). My daughter (4 years old) was well catered for with the children’s menu, plenty of choice for children. I had the chicken saag which was delicious! All round a fantastic meal, thank you for having us.
