Stopped at Brunch Box on a whim while road tripping from Edinburgh to the Lake District, could not have been happier with the service or the food. The woman working there even happily made a off-menu item for my vegetarian girlfriend.

We moved to Penicuik 3 years ago and Cibo’s became our favourite restaurant. We had major celebrations there. From an 18th to an 80th birthday. The food and service was always first class. However, we were there a couple of weeks ago and were very disappointed. The waitress greeted us with a luke warm smile and barely uttered a word. We couldn’t see any of our usual waiting staff, that are normally very friendly and recognise us. There were only 2 of us and our food arrived fairly quickly. Unfortunately my veggie pasta was awful. The pasta was over cooked, the vegetables were soggy and wet, and there was loads of oil floating around the bottom of the bowl. They dealt with my complaint promptly and took it off the bill. But surely an Italian restaurant can manage to cook pasta properly. My wife’s pizza was ok, but not great. I know there has been some change in management recently. Please don’t let standards slip. This is the first time that I have had a bad experience. Get the food and the service back to what it always was please.

Before we arrived had speedy replies ro any questions, owner called us on the day to check when we would be arriving as he had to pop out and didn't want to miss us. On arrival we were met by Emma who was just so friendly helpful and smiley we booked breakfast for the next day for £8 each. We went to the bistro for tea prices of drinks reasonable and for the size of the portions of food the price reasonable again we were served well by Emma. The room was fairly clean and comfortable peeling borders on the walls weren't great and folder on window ledge was quite dusty but otherwise room spot on. Loved the history of the navaar and how they tried to incorporate within the decorations in the room. Was very shocked to arrive back after a day in Edinburgh to find the room had been service and supplies restocked really nice touch. Could hear the bus going passed quite early in the morning but I'm a very light sleeper.

Very good experience. We stopped on way home for breakfast. Nice ambiance, good food and coffee. We had omelettes and coffee.
