Dreadful, 6 miniscule supposed king prawns floating in a bland watery supposed madras and an undercooked naan despite having to wait nearly two hours for it arriving, all for the princely sum of 16 quid, ridiculous. Avoid avoid, avoid.

Ghurkas Was our go to takeaway but last few have been very watery and we had a few problems with delivery and service

My boyfriend and I tried this restaurant after our Airbnb host recommended it to us, and we had an AMAZING experience here. The owner greeted us with a smile and treated us like royalty…we felt right at home and very comfortable after a long day of exploring Edinburgh. 😊 The food was also superb; we have tried many Indian and Nepalese restaurants in the UK and in Canada, and Ghurkas was by far the best we have ever tasted. The poppadoms, curries, and dips were delicious. After our meal, we were brought warm towelettes for our hands and squares of After Eight chocolate! What a treat. Everyone should try Ghurkas!

Food is top tier and staff very friendly

Food was good when it arrived but the poppadoms were burnt and the chicken pakora was cold.

food was late by 1 hr and missing spiced onions. chicken pakora was cold. though after waiting 2 hrs it was pointless to call back a 2nd time.

Flavourless food tasted like it had been pre made, frozen, defrosted, and then sold. I won't order from here again. I've said that before and went back, but this time I mean what I say. I would advise others not to buy from here! What a shame that I need to leave such a review. My town deserves better quality for the prices we are being charged. We deserve better.

2 hours and 35 minutes and still no food. Requested a refund which I will have to take up with just eat. I had to call twice. I left a note with instructions about how to find my address (which is on a the main road into Penicuik) but was told they’d been trying to contact me and couldn’t get through. Was given excuse about car crash, last time I had to chase up my order as well which was pushing 2 hours when it arrived…incorrect and missing an item. Disastrous place.

Abit disappointed, looked great but tasteless which was a shame cause I was really looking forward to it!!

Bit of a hiccup tonight. Staff very apologetic, friendly and keen to rectify. I don’t eat chicken but if you do, you won’t be disappointed by how much chicken is in the curries! Still, easily, the best Indian takeaway in the area

Food was honestly 10/10 tonight, delicious butter chicken + veggie biryani. The chips were also class. The order missed my can of irn bru sadly which I was looking forward to but I did get refunded via the app.

The food here is so good. The curry was totally spot on this evening. The pakora was a massive hit with my son also. Honestly no complaints with quality or taste ever. Always seems to be 5/10 minutes later on delivery than it originally states. This can be annoying it well worth the wait.

Ordered at 6.30 and didn’t arrive till 7.55!

Having had several takeaways from here I cannot recommend highly enough. Always super tasty, especially the lamb dishes. Friendly service and quick collection. Better than any curry we found in Edinburgh before moving to Penicuik

Veg Pakora were fantastic and the lamb in the Madras was melt in your mouth, hot but not too hot. All round delicious.

Hidden gem, providing inexpensive, delicious and unusual curries - their traditional Nepalese food is absolutely fantastic (Himalayan dumplings and Timuri Lamb are superb, and I'd never had them before), as are theri curry-shop standards. Highly recommend - Penicuik is very lucky to have this restaurant!

Utter rubbish, don’t waste your money on this place!

I had a fantastic meal at this lovely restaurant with my sister and husband. All our dishes were so tasteful. The service was surgery and the place is lovely and clean. Will defnitly visit again. ☘️

After bouldering, 3 of us decided to go for a meal here. We arrived close to 9:30 pm (almost closing time), so we were going to order take away. Staff were incredibly friendly and invited us to sit in. The service was impeccable, the food was divine and we had a lovely time over there. The food is very reasonably priced and the portions are generous. 10/10, will return for sure!

First time we’ve tried this restaurant. Blown away with the food. Husband is a chef and he couldn’t fault ANY of it! Will definitely be ordering from here again 😁

Had to write a review of this amazing restaurant. Got two takeaways about a week apart during our stay in Edinburgh. Both absolutely outstanding quality. Everything from the soft perfectly cooked nan bread to the fluffy delicious pilau rice and superb curries was mouth wateringly tasty. All dishes were piping hot and well packed. Good sized portions too and the prices are very reasonable. Service was prompt and most courteous. What more could you want. Highly recommended !!! Thank you to all at Gurkhas Penicuik for the lovely meals. We will certainly be returning on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Been ordering same thing from here the Ghurka buttermilk chicken never had a curry nicer always on time or early minus today change of accounts I usually order on never been disappointed also plenty of food and chicken is always so flavourful n the curry itself is amazing always piping hot as well :)))

This is about the third time I’ve ordered from Gurkhas and while it’s usually on time, today the food was 20 mins later than the end of the adjusted timeframe. I understand that small businesses can be hard put to it in unexpected busy periods, but for the price it costs to be that late and have the food arrive only lukewarm isn’t great. I don’t much like having to wait well over the time I’m promised and then have to spend time reheating the food when it arrives. A real shame as the staff are all nice and the food is good, but food delivery lives and dies on getting it to you hot and on time.

Called restaurant three times and they kept saying they’d check where the drive was. Eventually arrived 30 mins late. Won’t be ordering from here again.

Very late delivery with the reason being delivery car breakdown. Could walk delivery to house in 15 mins. Next time, if we order again, we'll collect!!

Absolutely amazing meal. Nothing was too much trouble and as a party of six we wanted to try a few starters so they made two platters to share. It's just a pity we were only there for the weekend. Will definitely return next year.

Though the entrance is somewhat hidden, the restaurant is very nice and cozy. The patron offers help wherever he can and is super friendly. The food is excellent and very affordable. Recommended!👍

Great food, wereally enjoyed some finely prepared chicken and paneer curries.

My wife, my son and I visited just a few days ago. We had previously ordered for home delivery, but this was the first visit to the restaurant. Food and service is excellent! I had a king prawn starter (prawns were still in their shells), and the prawns were butterflied - they were accompanied by what I think was a raita and a little salad - also some sauce intertwined in red and green. Lovely! My main course was Chicken Pokhreli - absolutely outstanding! I also had steamed rice and garlic & coriander naan breads. The Pokhreli is an authentic Nepalese dish and it actually has nettles in it, but please do not be put off with that! Just wanted to say that my family and I were treated so well by the fantastic staff - we even had a quick chat with the chef! Will definitely return!!

The best culinary experience we had during our trip is Scotland. This is a must-go restaurant if you are visiting Edinburgh : tasty meals (all of them!!), large portions and so gentle staff! We went there two days in a row for dinner and everything was perfect!!

Delicious as always, unfortunately I ordered Lamb and got chicken, had dished up before I realised

Delivery arrived after 1.5 hrs unsurprisingly cold. One of the dishes was wrong and my curry had 8 small pieces of chicken in it. Called to complain about the wrong dish and was told they would resend the whole order again. Did not want to wait another 1.5 hrs so said I would collect. Order then cooked in 10 mins. Got home and dish was still wrong. At least I got double the amount of chicken in the end. Poor show though.

Very disappointed with our delivery. Our 2 curries (£8.95 each) Only 4 pieces of chicken in each main meal and the rest sauce and the sauce was so bland. Overly salted chips and popadoms smashed to bits. Decent rice though. An expensive failure I’m afraid

Best place in Penicuik for food

Very tasty food experience, we came on our first night to Penicuik. We had 4 types of food, and thought it was really very tasty with generous serving sizes and awesome flavour.

Food was lovely, very tasty and fresh and still hot on arrival. It was however late, taking a total of 1.5 hours to get here and likely would have taken longer had I not phoned to chase it up. We're likely to order again but hopefully delivery isn't late next time!

Food is getting worse unfortunately, I'm sorry to say that I'll not be ordering again.

We all had a lovely meal at The Gurkha (including the fussy eaters!) I had the saag aloo which was the best I’ve ever had. We’re definitely coming back soon.

The service was excellent and food presentation was great. Our only issue was the 2 dishes we had were exceptionally sweet. That I guess is down to individual tastes to a point but for both to be as sweet wasn't my preference in currys. This would have been a 5 star otherwise.

Second time ordering and loved it as much as I did the first time! Food is full of flavour and is absolutely delicious! Can’t wait to try another dish next week!

Lovely meals, we chose Indian food that was on the menu which was delicious. The Naan bread was probably the nicest I've had; very light and a perfect accompaniment to the cutty. Place was surprisingly quiet, although we're a bit early in the evening, service was excellent and the restaurant was very pleasant.

This was our second visit here and we all enjoyed the food and the service. We will be back

My son got a shard of plastic in his meal which I can only explain as looking like part of a plastic scouring pad. He almost swallowed it. This is the third time we have ordered from here since moving to the area but won’t be using again. Shame too as the food is nice but it’s been 15 minutes late on all three occasions.

Contacted restaurant twice and was assured it was on its way, even when app said delivered. Chicken in starter was pink, rice was so sweet it was like rice pudding and bhuna wasn't to my taste. Nearly an hour late, the salad wasn't edible and food was tepid. More than a little disappointed.
