Itihaas in Midlothian

Absolutely raging. They forgot the put 2 tubs of mango churtney in the bag. Ruined my meal

Ordered Ceylon. Not sure that was what arrived way too hot ( more than usual anywhere), and not much chicken in it. £5 delivery is too much when I’m paying £28 for one meal! And I’m never sure what the deal is with poppadoms. Used to order poppadoms and they would come with mango and onions and now they don’t.

Food was amazing and the portion sizes are huge!

Quite simply the most exquisite Indian cuisine and exemplary service, in immaculate surroundings with a relaxing atmosphere. Will most definitely be back. Busy on a Monday evening and I can absolutely see why.

Takeaway, can be nice ,had lots hiccups in past ,for price 2 orders over £117, We collected and waited so food not cold 4 min drive away,starters some old and some lukewarm?,just out kitchen too ? ,the buhna chichen perfect ,beef and lamb far to hot like a madras ? Same with the butter chichen?, rice pilau good ,the boiled rice kid nearly burned ,I tasted very very hot and the container, might opinion this was microwaved on high heat ,1 of the curries was the same the masala, korma ok bread ok ,packaging good ,this is last chance for us anymore thats us finished, and if the microwave has been used I would halt this

Excellent food and quality . We have been searching for a new takeaway after our local has let us down for the last time. This place is great and will be our new one from now on.

Use this restaurant frequently, usually for takeaways. Was looking forward our delivery tonight, but was totally disappointed with the food. Very poor pakora, chicken and haggis. Very poor paratha that was soggy and stodgy. My favourite, lamb madras, is usually excellent, but tonight it was poor, due to fatty, chewy meat. This restaurant is not cheap for take always, but tonight’s offering was a complete waste of money. Need to find a different Indian restaurant. Won’t be using again.

A serious gem of an Indian restaurant, unassumingly hidden in plain sight on Dalkeith high street! We live in the neighbourhood so regularly order curries for takeaway but it's really worth coming into the restaurant as well. The tandoori menu is to die for (and extremely cost effective), the naan delicious when oven fresh and the staff so kind and attentive.

Phenomenal curry ordered a speciality dish and was not disappointed. Service was impeccable but not over bearing. Dishes were delivered to the table promptly. Best curry I have had in a long time. All the best and thanks to the staff wonderfull night.

Arrived 4.45, waited 15 mins before anyone came near us, ordered starter, waited another hour before our main meal came. Numerous excuses, such as we cook your food fresh, then the order didn't go through, people who came in after us were served, paid and away before we were served our meal which was lukewarm . All in all a pretty miserable night for my wife's birthday ! Won't be back.

Did not deliver my bottle of coke, phoned to ask and told they would deliver it in 15 minutes, no apology and an hour later im still waiting for my coke.

We are visiting the area for the first time and Itihaas was suggested to us by another guest at our hotel. The food was exceptional as was the service. Staff was very attentive, helpful and very friendly. Highly recommend!

worst Indian I've ever had. currently eating cheese and crackers. waste off £55 . wish I could upload pics to show you. £45 paid through app and £10 on delivery for a sauce . vegetarian starter like eating black mush and salt. don't go to this shop.

I was absolutely shocked at £21.50 to buy a lamb bunny and a peshwari nan bread I've seen japati's bigger but it the price include delivery charge £1.50 can't believe how expensive a kuri has become

The Rogan Josh had absolutely zero flavour at all or spice. It was the most bland sauce I've ever tasted. It tasted like chicken in water.. You delivered a Peshawari naan instead of the Garlic naan that I ordered. The korma was fine, the poppadoms were good but the rest was really disappointing and cost over £50... Biji's in Wallyford is far superior in every way. Unfortunately I won't be ordering from here again

Absolutely fantastic food as always.

Binned the whole meal. Tasted like it had a bag of sugar in it, super sickly sweet. Forgot the chips. Boiled rice was hard. Garlic Nann was ok, very chewy and thin. So disappointing cost almost £50, got refund for missing chips. Waited an hour for it. Previous meal was ok. Literally had no dinner and this was meant to be a treat. Never again will we order here I’m sad to say.

The food was fabulous and there peshwari nan was one of the best I have tasted in a long time, the spices in there main meals were well balanced and delicious. This is the first time we have tried itihass and would certainly recommend it and we will be ordering again from them.

Always good for food. We like to come with the family and all enjoy.

Meal wasn't really that great had better. After a bill of 163.00 on food and drink they had the cheek to charge 1.00 for a tub to take away what my daughter did not eat. Soft drinks a rip off 3.75 per glass and was from a bottle of juice that was opened for a while and was flat. We asked for water there was 4 of us and all we got was 2 glasses of water. The waiter (not sure of his name) was quite rude snatching the menus out of your hand after ordering. Won't be rushing back all dishes where different that was ordered but evey dish tasted the same.🤢 for being an award winning restaurant I don't think it was anything special.

Tender lamb pieces that have been marinated in a mix of yogurt, ground almonds, onion, ginger, and garlic. The creamy sauce is mildly spiced with cardamom, cinnamon, and other aromatic spices. It’s not very hot, making it family-friendly. It’s rich, nutty gravy enveloping succulent lamb pieces—pure comfort on a plate! As the meal progressed, the sauce thickened due to the hot plate. Personally, I would have preferred a thinner sauce. Sag Gosht (£14.95) - Sometimes this dish is known as Lamb Palak; a delightful curry that combines tender pieces of lamb with creamy spinach. The lamb imparts a meaty richness, while the spinach adds a vibrant green freshness. The curry is seasoned with aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, fenugreek, and garam masala. These spices create layers of flavour without overpowering the dish. Fragrant and flavourfull! Alo Gobi Massala (£9.55) - Essentially a spicy Cauliflower Potato Curry. It’s packed full of spices such as turmeric, cumin, coriander, and garam masala, adding warmth and depth. While the spices in this dish were quite pronounced, unfortunately, it didn’t suit my taste. Our meal was a carb-filled adventure with these three breads. The Peshwari nan, generously adorned with almond paste, won my heart. However, the paratha felt a bit weighty. I’d pick either nan or paratha to pair with my curries. While the paratha bursts with flavour, it does hold onto some oil—unlike the drier texture of nan. Whether you’re craving sweetness, simplicity, or layers of flavour, these Indian breads have something for everyone! We had an absolutely delightful experience dining at Itihaas Indian restaurant. The food was scrumptious and left us feeling wonderfully satisfied. The drive to Dalkeith is definitely worth it for this authentic Indian feast!

We were twice at the restaurant during our visit and both times the food as well as the service were outstanding!

Whilst Itihaas relies principally on a local loyal customer base it is quite mystifying why it picks up awards as the cuisine is average and certainly not up to the standards of countless Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants in Edinburgh. In addition the service is extremely poor with surly staff, and we will revert to dining at several excellent restaurants in Edinburgh as even with the hassle of going into town from Dalkeith, the experience is much more enjoyable. In it's earlier days Itihaas was very good but those days seem to have disappeared

Pre ordered, came right on the time I requested. Piping hot and amazing, this is our go to place for Indian now!!

Chicken biryani was sent instead of vegetarian. I phoned up to get this corrected and after waiting 45 minutes it still hasn't been delivered. I told them to cancel it as it's now almost 9:30 and I'm going to bed soon.
