Delicious food and great service. We went for a takeaway and the service was excellent. One of our party is vegan and they understood well, and were honest about what they knew was vegan and what they couldn’t guarantee (some foods are bought in). The food was delicious, more than meeting expectations.

The spice house is my parents favourite restaurant and is always the place we choose to go to eat together for family gatherings and celebrations. Food is always delicious and staff really lovely and welcoming. Free corkage too if you sit in which is a great bonus. Lots of delicious veggie options too. I would highly recommend!

My husband and I have been dining here for many years now and despite having moved to Perthshire it’s still our favourite Indian restaurant and we meet friends for dinner here regularly. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is always good. I always try a little bit of everything at the table and as always it was all yummy. My choices were so tasty that I took home a doggy bag of everything I couldn’t finish on the night and had it for lunch the next day. Can’t wait to go back.

Had dinner with friends here last week and yet again the food was excellent. Highly recommend.

Five of us met for a meal here tonight. Service was faultless from start to finish. Food was absolutely top class from the first popadoms, through all the starters to every main and each side dish. Definitely the best Indian food we know of anywhere in the UK. Cant recommend it highly enough. Love the pictures on the wall but could you put the one of Paris back up please ;)

Food was ok, but I ordered the Thai sweet and sour and I swear it was out a jar! Tasted like the sharwoods I cheat with at home!!!! Jasmine sticky rice wasn’t sticky at all, just boiled! First time here and won’t be in a hurry to go back!

Ordered food online. Pakoras and Chicken Tikka main were 2 of the dishes on the orders despite it stating clearly salad was included with these no salad was provided. Peshwari nan ordered plain nan was in the order instead. I phoned to complain and the man who answered the phone would hardly let me explain the issue. I had asled to speak to a manager but the man decided he could "help" instead! It was a busy night was the excuse used several times. That is understandable but surely phoning the customer (I added a mobile number to the order) to inform them of things which were out of stock would have been a far nicer approach. Its not the first instance things have been missing from our order. I wonder if this place has changed owners as there is a dont care approach now of just give the customer what you want and not what they ordered. Dont forget customers pay your wages so treating them badly isnt such a great idea! I tried to send an email but for some reason it did not get there despite the email address being correct. If you dont have an email address dont advertise that you do on your website! Isnt it strange the order system works though? I will be telling my friends and family of my experiences and wont be back as the customer service here is very bad. There are many other takeaways/restaurants who do appreciate our custom and sadly this is not one. I had hoped this would be resolved and I wouldnt have to inform other potential diners on here. It is only fair now they are made aware before they waste their money aswell. Go elsewhere folks.

Went to this restaurant tonight for our anniversary and cannot praise them enough the food and service was excellent the best Indian meal we have had in a long time This restaurant is a byob which is great because we all have a favourite wine in sure and also no corkage charge The staff were fantastic very polite and extremely helpful We will definitely be back here and will be recommending them to everyone

I’m embarrassed to say that this is my first visit to Spice House after almost 40 years of living in Penicuik. It won’t be my last. The food was superb and the service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant isn’t posh, but it’s light and cheery. I had the best Sag Paneer that I’ve ever had and my lady had a very fine prawn Pad Thai. He was also happy to let me have two veggie side dishes instead of a single main course. BYOB made it a very cost-effective evening out and we were home on a 37 bus in 15 mins. Highly recommended for an informal, high-quality Indian/Thai meal in a cosy, local setting.

This is our go to restaurant in the area. The welcome is always friendly and the staff are attentive and go out of their way to look after you, even making bespoke dishes specific to your taste. Yet again the food was excellent. Succulent, tasty lamb, yummy chicken, excellent fresh naan and the best pakora sauce I’ve had. I would say I cleared my plate but I couldn’t finish what I ordered so I have a wee ”doggie bag” in the fridge right now that I will enjoy for my lunch tomorrow. It’s well worth ordering extra sides and taking home what you don’t eat at the table. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals tonight and will be back again soon.

From tasty crisp popadoms, tender lamb kebab and crunchy coated succulent pakora starters to five different main dishes, with mushroom rice and three types of naan and two side dishes, everything was absolutely faultless. This restaurant really is the best Indian restaurant we have ever eaten in the UK. It is well worth the 66 mile drive we do to visit it. Thanks Hazad. See you and your lovely brother again soon.

We ordered a takeaway from Spice House Penicuik and it arrived promptly, the restaurant staff and delivery driver were very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. My partner and I both agreed that this was one of the best Indian meals we've ever had. I'd definitely recommend this to others.

From the warm welcome to the outstanding food a visit here is always a great night. We have eaten here many times and have always had amazing food. We all like different things and they even make a bespoke curry for my husband to suit his tastes. Can’t wait to go back, even though we now live an hour and a half’s drive away it’s worth it!

After seeing so many positive reviews about this Indian restaurant we decided to order the set meal for 4 as a takeaway on Friday night. Bombay potato (x2), rice (x2), peshwari naan, two main courses, chicken pakora and chicken kebab, all for less than 30 quid! Very good value for money and all really tasty. Just as good as our local back home.If I had to criticise anything at all I'd say the chicken pakora could have done with being crisper, but all in all a great takeaway choice here!

As a ceoliac I often struggle to find takeaways that I can depend on not to make me I'll. Spice House is completely clued up on every aspect of the preparation of the food and assured me by explain ing the dishes I could and couldn't have due to cooking methods.We regularly order from here as the Chicken Tikka Bhuna is AMAZING. My wife is so fussy but raves about the Korma here with a Peshwari Naan Bread.We have gotten the meal deal here a few times to as the value for money is incredible. If you live in the area, trust me, pay this place a visit or get a delivery as you won't be disappointed.

Very varied and quite unusual menu, cheap and cheerful decor.

I can’t remember now how many times we have eaten here and we have never been disappointed. With 5 of us who have varying tastes in our food there were lots of different dishes and all of them were superb. I no longer live in penicuik so miss having this wonderful restaurant on my doorstep but I try and visit every chance I get.

We ordered a carry out last Saturday for the first time as it had been recommended to us. We expected to wait a while as it was Saturday but an hour and a half after ordering the meal arrived. It was cold so I had to heat both meals in the microwave. It was not very spicey and the veg bhuna was just full of potatoes with very little other veg.. We were also overcharged from the prices on the online menu by a few pounds. I tried to email the spicehouse via their own email address but it came back after a few days and was not accepted. Very disappointing and would not use again.

Good authentic Indian food with a smattering of Thai. Super sheek kebabs and great choices, It was a Saturday night so table suffered in favour of take-away orders, we were fed additional breads in lieu. If the take-away business is that busy it says something about the food.

This is my 8th or 9th visit to the Spice House and this time I brought friends for their first visit and they loved their meal. The food is fantastic and so consistently good that this should be THE place to eat in Penicuik. I will certainly be back.

This place looks nothing from the outside. It doesnt even look much when you get insideBUT the staff are delightful and so helpful. They can make ANYTHING you have ever heard of in Indian dishes and hundreds you may not have. We have been often and I assure you I have never eaten better food at any other Indian restaurant EVER in the whole of the UK, in fact anywhere except maybe when we have been to India. It is also BYOB. No corkage.

Popped in between rugby games for a quick dinner.Had Rogan josh and rice, it was fab.My buddy had a chicken corma and rice, just as fab apparently.Not a big place , and you have to take your own alcohol as they don't have a licence.. Don't let that put you off, this was my first visit ,it won't be my last

We have been half a dozen times in the last six months. We have NEVER once had a bad dish. The service couldnt be better. They cant do enough to be helpful. They will vary and modify dishes to suit your preferences. No charge for corkage. Take your own alcoholic drinks. Great value for money. Best Indian we know of in Scotland now.

Amazing food at amazing prices. Already booked for week.

To date we have been here 3 times. Their main turnover is carry out meals. They also have a small nice and clean dining area. With being mainly a carry out business I reckon all their meals are based on 3 base curry sauces. The curries my friends and I have ordered are good but not exactly the correct flavour. For example: week 1 a Buna tasted of a deep smokie flavour which tasted pleasant enough but a Buna does not have this flavour characteristics. Week 3: I ordered a Celyon which was a different colour and taste from a Celyon I ordered the week before. This Celyon tasted like the Buna from week 1 but a little hotter. I could not detect the lemon and coconut flavour that a Celyon should have. The pakuras were excellent as were the side dishes. Portion sizes were good and the the service was friendly. I will return. After a few return visits (Jan 2019) my friends and myself have given up with the variation in quality of the food. We now go into town for something half decent.

Fantastic takeaway delivery. First time I’ve used Spice House & won’t by my last. Set meal for 1; Chicken Pathia & Garlic Nan. Chicken; succulent & there was plenty of it, sauce was just the right amount of sweetness & spice. Nan; light, crisp & fluffy - perfect! Price; amazing value for a superb, quality meal.

Uso regularmente para llevar. Decidí sentarme en el 1 de abril de 2017, un sábado. Muy básico, pero limpio y acogedor. La comida, como de costumbre, absolutamente magnífico. Posiblemente sea mejor que tome distancia, pero supongo que es porque es recto desde la cocina sin un viaje de entrega. Este es un lugar trae su propio alcohol, así que recuerda llevar algo con usted, luego sentarse y disfrutar de excelente comida.

Hemos estado en este restaurante varias veces. En primer lugar parece algo que sólo realmente llevar outs, y el servicio puede ser lento cuando estamos ocupados con ellos, pero la comida es claramente bien preparada y la persona que sirve (el dueño? Obviamente le importa). Es muy pequeña, y ha sido casi completo en nuestra experiencia, pero eso es una buena señal.

La comida era buena y el servicio también era bueno. No hay mucho ambiente y que podían estar pintados, pero supongo que como su principal negocio es comida para llevar y el restaurante es un poco de un perno a que nunca va a ser un lugar de encuentro para amigos o parientes. impresionante Es un buen honesto de la India con un buen menú, buena comida y un servicio tan amable. Si eso es lo único que resultado mas alto que yo. Si viviese cerca sin duda sería una opción de comida para llevar.

Tuvimos una comida familiar en el restaurante, y la calidad y el servicio aquí es exteriores. El menú es excelente, y la relación calidad-precio merece la pena. Puedes decir que todo está recién preparado y esto se refleja en el sabor de cada plato. El personal es amable y atento, y el chef es muy complaciente para sabores personales y niveles de especias de los platos. En general, y un gran restaurante asiático, y uno que me gustaría volver en un instante.

Our host Mr. Ron at Winter Cottage recommended this place to dinner.Turned out to be very good Indian Restaurant run by Bangladeshi chef... Good one..The food is beautifully prepared, so fresh from the kitchen - just out of the pan. Chicken Masala was spicy, chicken was tender, curry was nicely done....Veg Jalfari was excellent...The naan bread are just wonderful, again fresh out of the oven was huge....Service is excellent. Place has cosy and comfortable interior.Will recommend people to visit & taste the beautiful curries..Closes very early.....

I have been to the Spice House on a number of occasions and never been disappointed! The service is fantastic and the food is always excellent. BYOB also makes it a cheap night!My favourite dish is the Sag Gosht, nice level of spice and cooked to perfection!The starters are very large so would recommend missing the poppadoms or sharing a starter between two!

I have used every curry house in Penicuik and this one is the best by far. Never had a bad meal here.

The food is always fresh and tasty, it is just a bit dull to sit in as there is never any atmosphere. It is a BYOB though so that is good. The staff are always friendly but English not great so sometime a bit tricky with communication. I would recommend going as the food is very nice.

This has to be the worst Indian restaurant ever, no atmosphere, tasteless food one chicken dish which was dry and one lamb dish which was not spicy despite asking if it was spicy not hot, a lemon rice which again had no taste at all both main dishes were very oily very expensive for two starters two mains and two colas (£42) have paid less for better including a bottle of wine. Penicuik needs better restaurants than this. More effort was put into the takeaways than the diners.

I've had a few takeaway from here and wouldn't use anywhere else now.Food is always really tasty, fresh and not too bad a price either. Delivery is always pretty quick too.

I would be disappointed eating in any other Indian restaurant now. The food here is seriously amazing.

This is a wee gem of an Indian restaurant. The food is beautifully prepared, so fresh from the kitchen - just out of the pan. The naan bread are just wonderful, again fresh out of the oven. Service is excellent, and its BYOB with no corkage charge. For a starter and main with rice and bread it's about £15 per person. It's a place that you'd think only does take away, but I'd advise everyone to try out (at least once) the cosy and comfortable interior.

We love the spice house, and visit almost every week. We regularly talk to the chef/owner, and he talks about how the dishes are made. It's clear that he cares about the high quality of food. Makes a huge difference. We love it here.

External appearances would possibly make you walk past but go in and try. It's so worth it. The ingredients of each dish are so fresh and you know it's just not chicken or lamb added to a sauce. The owner is a lovely man. It's BYOB too which makes it a reasonable meal out.

I love the Spice House and visit the restaurant and use the takeaway often. They have a huge variety of indian dishes at very reasonable prices, and also offer a Thai menu which has some lovely dishes as well. Their yogurt sauce is the best I've ever tasted!The restaurant is BYOB with no corkage and the staff are very friendly and attentive. They are also willing to accommodate requests for changes to dishes, which is great as I am fussy about some things. I can honestly say I have never had a bad dish here. I would really recommend the Spice House over pretty much all of the other Indians in the area (of which there are many) simply for reasons of taste, variety and value. Love it!

Looked on trip advisor for somewhere to eat whilst away with work and this place popped up so I went and must say from outside it doesn't look that great but once step inside and taste their food it all becomes clear why such good reviews top class and plenty big portion was well stuffed and never even had a starter so ill defo be back here again when in area

First time we have tried the Spice House. Have to say they now have a new regular customer!!! Have been so disappointed with takeaways in Penicuik recently. Was more than pleasantly surprised! Had the set meal No 2 with Chicken Pakora, Chicken Madras, Pilau Rice and Nan with a side of aloo gobi. Everything had it's own distinct flavour! Also ordered panir pakora and a side of dahi raitha. Loved everything but the panir pakora was my favourite with a really light non greasy batter!!!! Go try some!!!!

I have had numerous take aways from here and sat in on at least 5 occasions. The BYOB policy has no corkage fee. The staff are very friendly and attentive to your needs. I have had a vast range from their menu and would rate the food as well above average. They are happy to cook curries for you that are not specified on the sit in menu. A welcome addition to the local curry scene.

My husband and I have been to this fantastic wee Indian restaurant on many occasions over the past few months and we both love it. We've also taken friends and family who have also really enjoyed it. The food is excellent with so much choice and is great value for money. The BYOB is an added bonus. The staff are very friendly and the service is first class.

I visit this restaurant with my wife frequently. The food is always of the highest standard and the service is always so friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. It also has the advantage of being BYOB which means a good saving on wine with the meal and they don't charge corkage.

My husband visit regulary as we live locally. I think this is the best restaraunt in terms of value for money. I can't understand why it isn't always busy. You can take your own alchohol which makes a huge difference to your bill! Food is always good, freshly cooked and very good prices. We have brought many people here and none have been disappointed. Staff are friendly and not intrusive. If you don't want to t o travel far its a great place to eat.

Was working nearby on a nightshift and decide to try the spice house,it was a monday night so it wasnt busy so just got a carry out,had chicken vindaloo with garlic nan,well the vindaloo was amazing full of flavour,had a bit of a kick and the chicken was moist,i could of ate another one no problem,there was not much garlic flavour to the nan,just tasted plain but oh well you cant have it all,will be back for sit in next time.
