Slumdog Delivered - Indian Restaurant, Cafe & Takeaway in Midlothian

Food was cold, 30 minutes late. And the worst was, the delivery driver called from his car outside wanting me to go and collect from the car. Called the restaurant, no apologies not interested. AVOID

SUPERB EXPERIENCE ORDER DELIVERED ON TIME AND TASTE WAS SOOOO GOOD ,

Collected a carry out last night. The worst indian ( allegedly) food I have ever had. ( I was born and brought up in Bangladesh) The starter was swimming in marie rose sauce, tikka hidden beneath it. Both curries plastered in onion and inedible.

First time ordering No popadoms and the chicken in curry had a bit of a burn taste to it

Came here today with my sister and family who are regulars,3 of us had the buffet all of which were cooked to perfection and more than enough choice for us all, at a very reasonable price,My husband had of the main menu and greatly enjoyed it,service was exceptional.We definitely will return next time in Scotland.Thank you

Ordered at 19.08 and received at around 21.30. The thing that annoyed me is that it said it was delivered around an hour after ordering. Asked for a text update and the restaraunt updated the delivery time to 20.45. Phoned at 21.10 and the person said 10 minutes. 20 minutes later I got it - and it was hot... which means someone/ or the restaraunt just clicked delivered within their delivery window. Really unhappy with the experience.

Received my order which was luke warm. I ordered cheese Naan and got a plain naan. Ordered onion bajis and got deep fried broccoli? And my chicken saag was bland. Overall pretty disappointed, especially as the order came close to £50! Probably won’t be ordering from here again.

Unfortunately the meatballs were overcooked and inedible.

Takeaway at Corstorphine. Freshly made. Street food is excellent. Variety of curries too

What a excellent meal, we visited last night and sadly were the only people in at that time. We had a Groupon voucher which was fantastic value. The service was great, the waiter very pleasant and efficient. The food was delicious, one of the best we've had. Chicken was cooked to perfection as was the lamb. So tasty, can't sing their praises enough. Well worth a visit. There's also a buffet available now too.

Curry was good, nan bread lovely but the chicken wrap wasn’t pulled chicken and was small chopped cubed chicken which affected its taste. Not great. I ordered a cocktail to try one, ordering the bramble. Convinced it was a cosmopolitan delivered. So overall 50% of order was not great.

Chips were old and timing was not good.

A lovely atmosphere with tasty food and amazing service

The railway lamb curry was exceptionally tasty. Would definitely eat this again. If I had any constructive criticism it would just be to add extra potato and a couple more pieces of lamb. There was only two small new potatoes in my dish. The lamb was very tender, amazing just coulda done with being a little more. Complements to the chef

Quite disappointed with this. The receipt shows that I ordered at 16.57 and received our order at 19.50!!! Had to call to be told really busy, but that couldn't have been the case at 16.57!!! You should have taken the initiative to call and advise. Also was supposed to get 30% off using just eat app but that doesn't equate right either. However the food was lovely when we eventually got it.

portions are children sized. had to order a chippy after to satisfy myself. who are you kidding with the wrap sizes (3 bites). and 4 skinny bits of pakora is poor patter, I ate more that this when I was 10 years old. delivery was on time but I'm not surprised because the restaurant barely had to cook much. if your selling baby portions maybe use baby prices instead of scamming people

We visited for a sit in meal and the food was so fresh and delicious. Everything nice and hot straight from the kitchen. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Will visit again.

Excellent quality.of freshly cooked food. Our party of six meant that there was a small delay in everyone being served, however well worth waiting for Only one waitress on duty to serve the restaurant.

Totally disappointed on arrival we were quickly given our seat and a drinks order placed and received asked if we were a la carte or buffet told member of staff buffet from here onwards was not the best experience. No starters to choose from and waited about ten minutes then had to prompt a member of staff,starters arrived and were not the warmest. No plates in Sight for main course so again had to ask a member of staff they brought the plates promptly.Boiled rice at the buffet hot plate had not been replenished for a while and what was left in the container was dried out and hard.Had to ask staff again if they could replenish the rice which they did with two takeaway containers of rice thrown into the container in the buffet counter on top of all the dried out hard rice,asked staff member to get fresh rice which they took the container from the buffet counter and a few minutes later appeared at the table with a bowl of rice that had been heated again in the microwave and obviously taken from the container from the buffet counter the bowl sides were covered in grains of rice. Rice was left on the table untouched Starter plates were never cleared from the table before our main and all tables in front in the bar area were strewn with used dishes all in all not the best dining experience first time visitor will be avoiding in the future.

Recommended by family and not disappointed. Came with a groupon voucher. Food was excellent and friendly informative service made for a good night. Will definitely be back to taste other items on the extensive menu.

We have ordered a delivery via their app, from Dalkeith, several times. The food has always arrived in good time, still been hot and very tasty. There has been a problem with the app, which shows they don’t deliver to our area. We called the shop, they took our order and still applied the discounts that were only available through the app. The member of staff couldn’t have been more helpful.

Was there on Sunday with my dad for a groupon offer. The member of staff taking out order was very helpful and offered me a mint yoghurt with my chicken pakora as the pakora sauce is very hot. My korma was lovely and my dad said his meal was nice too. The naan bread was lovely. The chocolate cake and strawberry milkshake was lovely too. I didn’t mind paying the extra for my dad’s dish and the milkshake on top of the voucher as voucher clearly stated the price points included. I will go back for sure.

What an awful experience. Been reading other reviews and just surprised to see 4srar rating. This restaurant deserves 0 star. Chicken tikka was raw( never seen a raw chicken )served in a table. The waitress did nothing about it. Infact tikka was removed from buffet and replacement kept. Can see flies around the restaurant, look at the pics. Awful. There are many other places who serve better Indian food than here. Health and safety officers please have a look. Honestly most unhygienic restaurant I have been in UK in my last 15 years

First time customer. Food was delivered on time and hot, like you just got it over the counter. I had two things from the street food menu and both were tasty, fresh, lots of ingredients. The portion size was just right. Very yummy. My OH got a traditional curry, the Chasni , rice and peshwari nan. He’s still raving about out it. Will def order again. Thank you.

Food was ok. Only went in for some naan bread to takeaway. There were no other customers so no atmosphere at all. The food was ok. Have had better Indian food. But I have also had worse.

We recently visited Edinburgh and dropped in at Slumdog Dalkeith. The food was amazing, perfect Indian taste. Though we enjoyed the veg dishes more than the non veg ones. Dal makhani, Garlic Naan and Jeera rice were great. I highly recommend this place if you want to try authentic Indian food.

Garlic nan had chilli in it also ordered mild chicken tikka but was very hot 🥵 and the chicken pakora had hard Bits in the chicken poor quality

We ordered a lamb bhuna but were delivered a chicken bhuna. After waiting over an hour for the food, we didn't want to wait any longer while the food was replaced so my husband had the chicken bhuna but was disappointed as this was not what he had been expecting.

Unfortunately didn't love our meal and can't leave 5 stars this time. Both curries had burst out of both containers on delivery and I ordered 6 popadoms (for 6 of us sharing) and only received 2. Chips soggy and middle of the 2 poppadoms burnt. However, delivery was fast....

The sauce for the chilli garlic prawns is very sweet, more a pathia than a CGP. Didn't enjoy as don't like sweet curries

Lovely curry’s will defo order again.suffer from celiac disease so have to be very careful what I eat and staff listened to my food needs,and curry was lovely and gluten free as well as chips and popadoms.A few other Indian take aways in the area where not interested in my custom as has to be gluten free, was quite rude about it, so happy found one that listens and can now have a Indian take away! 2 weeks in a row we have had the buffet. Better to book table online as its only 9.99 as opposed to walk in which is 15 pounds. There is not a giant selection but more than enough. What the owner does is not put too much out and constantly tops up giving you fresh food each time. Last night the main curries were chicken karahi and chicken jalfrezi. They were amazing really tasty and nice and hot. Also theres dahl dishes, chicken pakoras, samosas,rice and my favourite chicken tikka along with other dishes but value for money and wont be beaten. Theres beautiful chocolate cake and custard although the custard needs the amount cut as it ends up with a skin on it so a suggesn to the owner maybe a bit less custard out. The staff are lovely me and my partner had a nice chat with the girl on saturday evening and she told us about the midweek deals its incredible value for money. Lagers are around 5.25 and bottle wine 15 pounds. Large jugs or water are free. Anyway another great night we had fabulous food and a lovely host.

My order said it was delivered when I hadn’t received the food so I called the restaurant, I said thank you/bye and the phone was put down without a bye/thanks which I thought was a bit rude. Order arrived 15-20 mins late which isn’t that bad but still not great. Peshwari naan and rice were really nice but the chicken tikka masala I ordered didn’t arrive, it was a different curry. The sag was nice but salty and no tomatoes as they say it does on the description. Will try again, hopefully just a

Best Indian I’ve been to. Staff very friendly and food is fabulous. Had the buffet today and the starters stole the show. The pakoras were just the right spice and the samosa’s melted in the mouth. The chicken tikka masala was lovely and they even had a special Easter samosa with chocolate. Fantastic food at very good price

Compared to the last time we ordered the food wasn't great,I ordered the vindaloo extra spicy there was no spice whatsoever,my husband had the chicken shashlik and some of the chicken was still pink so it was cooked,unfortunately this has put us of from ordering again. The last order was absolutely amazing.

My wife and I chose to break our fast last night at Slumdog Dalkeith, taking advantage of their Ramadan buffet for £9.99. We chose this after seeing their menu online and thought how great it was for that price point. Especially after visiting the likes of Shinwari during Ramadan for the last four years, we wanted to try something different. The food at this establishment took us by surprise, there were plenty of veg and chicken options, however no red meat options on the menu (hence the price point) but that didn't matter to us though. The food on offer at the buffet wasn't overflowing, this was to minimise food wastage, and this was refreshing to see. It was also selectively warmed in batches i.e. the hostess regularly checked on the muslim diners and informed when the starters were ready, then we had finished she alerted the kitchen to bring out the mains and top ups were were constantly done. The restaurant ambience was nice and peaceful, no panic and no rushing like most of the Edinburgh restaurants during iftari time. There were no queues and we felt like we had the place to ourselves. It was so nice to break our fast at a restaurant with barely any noise. All the tables were nicely prepared with the clean cutlery, plenty of dishes, dates and water. And chosen drinks arrived on plenty of time. Starters included - Chicken tikka Seekh kebab Papdi chaat Onion baji Chicken pakora I tried a bit of everything and they were perfectly cooked, non greasy but delicious and flavoursome. No complaints at all. Mains included - Palak paneer Chicken jalfrezi Chana masala Steamed rice Garlic nan Plain nan Raita Salad Chilli sauce. All the currys were cooked the desi way and tasted authentic, my wife even mentioned that it tasted liked home cooked food which surprising for us. Naan was fresh and fluffy, currys weren't too spicy either. Overall I'd give this place a 8/10 just for the price point of £9.99 and the food was great quality along with the quiet ambience of the restaurant. A great experience for us dining as a couple. We were also well looked after by the hostess in a very busy restaurant, she constantly checked up on us. Service was 10/10. The buffet is £9.99 if you pre-book, and for walk ins its £14.99 just to give you a heads up. Well done to the staff at Slumdog Dalkeith 👏🏽

Good selection of food and speedy delivery.

Tried their buffet on a meal out with friends, food was nice and the staff were friendly and accommodating. For £9.99 pp it was great value. The only thing I would mention is that it would be nice if there was a bit more of a selection of vegetarian and meat dishes however, that's just my opinion and I have given 5 stars as the overall experience was an enjoyable one.

Food was delivered well over an hour late. Had to call for an update several times and got palmed off with excuses about “the bad weather” (light drizzle/almost no wind). Eventually admitted they were very busy and my order would be with me in “20 minutes” but in reality showed up 50 minutes after that. Submitted a request for compensation via JustEat which they ignored. Food is alright, but definitely not worth the wait. Should have known better… Slumdog is consistently terrible for delivery.

The food and service are always great. The new buffet at the weekends are such good value and lots of choice for everyone. The honey chilli chips and chicken pakora are a must try if you go. They always do excellent deals so worth checking before you go.

Have had a few takeaways and every time the food is amazing and always delivered on time. Really good portion sizes and love that you can choose how spicy you want your chosen dish. We will definitely be using them again.

The food is amazing, the taste, texture and quality. A wide range of items to choose from, each with great ingredients. The team at slumdog are just the best. Having picked up my take out, I made it all the way home to the front door…. And then boom… the slumdog bag burst. Obviously with it … the curry went all over my door step! I gave them a quick call to explain what had happened and brought the bag back (pavement curry isn’t my favourite choice so that had to go in the bin), but the team were superb and kindly made us a fresh batch. I suppose they didn’t have to do so as I had already left the premises. Normally the bags are super sturdy (and quite stylish) .. using paper and not plastics - great for the planet obviously, but this gesture of kindness will always make me want to go back for my meals here. It must have been a one off mistake with a faulty bag, but the food was utterly brilliant once we managed to get it onto a plate!! Thanks again to the team at Slumdog Dalkeith (order Freeda) :)

Superb service and awesome food to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurant was quiet but great atmosphere with impeccable service. I got my extra food to take away as the portions were very big and we'd had starters too. Authentic meal with Mango cider to drink. Many thanks to the lovely waitress who went above and beyond answering our questions about dishes and discussing with us how things are made. We will definitely return to try more dishes.

We had a lovely meal and enjoyed every bit of it!! The mixed grill was delicious but quite a huge portion for 2 people so we asked to take home the leftovers which the waitress was more than happy to help with. I highly recommend the mixed dhal and their naan is light, crispy and pliable at the same. The rice we had was very tasty although a smaller portion that we thought but the naan compensated for it. I want to try other things on the menu, it tastes authentic to us.

Slumdog is my favourite Indian takeaway in the area. Lots of authentic and veggie options. Recently we've ate in a few times due to their excellent promotions. The food has always been first rate and the restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere. This time I opted for a Punjabi garlic masala, lots of flavours coming through which created a really tasty dish. Been for a meal with my fiancé for Valentines Day. Food at Slumdog is excellent. Staff are very friendly, especially Komal (I think that is the ladies name - she is lovely). We had mixed pakora for starters - very tasty. My partner had chicken bhuna with rice and I had my fav the chicken tikka masala wrap - both were delish. And not to forget the tasty chips & cheese. We also had desert which was yummy - carrot cake and chocolate fudge cake. I come to Slumdog a lot with my sister for lunch and we always have our favourite chicken tikka wrap - perfect! Also had take aways and sat in for dinner. Would highly recommend. Great food and excellent service.
