Visited today with friends. Although their meals were enjoyed, I had a coronation chicken panini which was not very tasty, was too sweet for me to eat anymore than one bite. Coleslaw tasted "off"... after telling staff member whilst ordering lasagne, my comment was ignored, got lasagne but unfortunately didn't enjoy that either, very little beef,(and too much stodgy pasta)chips and a small side salad and in my opinion, definitely not worth the £11.50. Been a few times and unfortunately won't be back

Best cooked breakfast Dumfries has to offer, bar none! Great coffee too. Really comfortable and peaceful space with views of the golf course. Well priced and friendly service

Let me kick off by saying what not to expect: this is not a fancy hotel with subservient staff catering to your every whim. At this place, you are quite literally a guest, joining the owner and his family in their house. If this aligns with your expectations, then you are in a good place. The owner, Tom, runs the bar, where your pre-dinner drinks are accompanied by friendly locals, happily sharing a story or two on the day's events. The bar is stocked with a nice selection of reasonably priced whisky (Scotch of course) and gins, catering to every taste. Dinner is a convivial affair, where conversation is quickly intermingled between local patrons and guests staying in the hotel, while the menu offers a nice selection of local food, lovingly prepared by the lady of the house. All in all, a most excellent experience, completely in line with our expectations of a more rural hotel/restaurant.

Yo estaba pidiendo comida con mi familia cuando Millie Bobby Brown entró, arrancó mi hijab y estampado en ella. . . no recomendaría 1 estrella experiencia : ( ( (

No kids menu but they split the adult pizza for our boys to share. Pizzas and garlic bread were absolutely amazing, just perfect. Pasta great too. Tirimasu a little dry but other desserts lovely. Very friendly staff. Would go back.

This was an excellent stop for breakfast (wish we had gone for lunch too). Had bacon and sausage whilst wife had bacon and egg - cooked from fresh and were very tasty Had a decent choice of jacket potato and fillings available too It’s not luxurious - down to earth with great food

On there Web site, a request to put in an order in advance for pizza orders. One of us is Coeliac so ensured we complied, and to ensure no mixup. Called in the order 6 1/2 hours ahead of collection. Told this would be okay and to collect the pizzas at 18:30. Arrived 18:20 , surprise, surprise, order wasn't in the system. Then some nonsense about the person who took the order ( That morning) was off sick and hadn't passed it on, or put it in the system. If I waited, hopefully it could be sorted out. Asking how long ? couldn't guarantee a time as there were already a few orders in. Just left, what a disappointment. Won't be back

The Old Forge is legendary. But it doesn't live up to the hype. It's one for the bucket list, only for the surroundings and location. But the food is average at best - what does it take to make your own steak chips - it's not difficult. Instead we were treated to limp, soggy chips that looked like they'd been out of a frozen chip bag from ASDA. The locals are aloof and stand-offish, most of them crowd around the pool table in the ridiculously laid out snug. (Who puts a dart board above a seat?) Pool table is rank and falling to pieces. Very few locals mingle in the main pub. Not a patch on what it was like when Iain Robertson ran it. Atmosphere sadly lacking. My advice, pop over for a pint on the ferry, avoid lunch and dinner and go with a bunch of friends so you've got someone to chat to. Managed to get a chat to one of the staff who said it's run like the Mafia with various folks undermining the bar manager - so it seems all is not well. Really disappointing. Only giving it two stars - one for the location and one for the young staff who were very good.

Absolutely disgraceful service! Delivery £3 and nearly 40 minutes late. What’s the point of booking time slots if they can’t honour their own delivery times. Had to phone to get an update and no apology whatsoever from staff or delivery person when it eventually arrived. Their pizzas are nice but way too expensive and then have a cheek to charge £3 delivery and can’t delivery remotely near the scheduled time and no apology. Really bad customer service!

In town centre parking all around.Served quickly and friendly. Nice menu we both opted for the steak pie. Which didn’t disappoint tasted delicious and good portion size. We even greater ourselves to pudding - sticky toffee to be exact served with ice cream - absolutely delicious.£25 for 2 x 2 courses and soft drinks good value.Defo recommend.
