Went for lunch yesterday and first class experience. Staff are exemplary, efficient, friendly and professional service. Spotlessly clean and well maintained pub and the food just spot on. As well as really good starters, we both had their famous scampi mains. If there is better scampi anywhere I would like to know! None of your frozen breadcrumbed stuff here just the real McCoy! Have previously had other mains which are just as good. Theakston’s draught Best Bitter really good too and at a very fair price too, unlike so many other gastro pubs. A real gem on all counts.

Was recommended to the cafe by a local and I am so glad we were. A small cafe and due to the weather being poor all the tables inside were full it is quite noisy, but that didn’t stop us enjoying our lunch. My husband said outside looked lovely so next time we will go outside weather permitting. The food was good and the presentation of the food excellent. A great find, thank you.

Having been to the Stapleton Arms at Wass on many occasions and even been shown the bedrooms, 4 of us booked B&B and evening meals. I booked online 2 rooms. The 'Superior' room £150 per night and the other £100. However, we were not aware the venue had changed hands but it almost immediately became apparent. The stairs leading to the bedrooms looked very tierd and unhoovered. The landing and our bedroom stank of burnt fat and the rooms were very basic and on opening the wardrobe I found empty drink bottles. The door to the shower had black rising up it and the shower just ran like a tap.. Our meal was fine and our friends ordered a bottle of champagne which cost £70 which we were happy to pay but when the bill for the meal arrived it was altogether £340. They had even charged extra for a blob of icecream on my pudding as they said icecream was an extra. Next morning we met at breakfast only to discover that our friend staying in the 'Superior' room, one of whom is very seriously ill and this was supposed to be a treat during a break from treatment, found the shower was not working and they couldn't find a shaving ;point. Just to add insult to injury one of our party ordered a poached egg and when it arrived the toast was burnt black on the underside and my bacon was floating in fat. Had it not been for the fact that one of our party was very ill and we didn't want to make a fuss we paid up the bill and left. Not once did the manager ask us if everything was o.k. He was totally uninterested. What a nightmare stay. Never again, The next morning I phoned to speak to the owner but she was not at work but would ring me on the Thursday of that week. She never rang. I rang back a week later and was told the owner had been given my complaint and she would ring me but another weerk later I have received no response. I suppose she is £600 better off and we will never grace their doors again.

Very nice lunch, comfortable pub with friendly staff. Helpful with mobility issues Update: apparently it’s now closed which is a shame.

After visiting Roots earlier in the year, the black swan was on the bucket list. My husband surprised me with an overnight stay for my birthday. It was Every bit as good as Roots and more. The room which was situated in a quaint cottage across the road, was cosy and had everything we needed for the nights stay. The copper bath was great to have a nice relax in before dinner. Dinner was exceptional, the service, the food and wine pairing were all faultless. We were also so impressed with breakfast the following Morning which was a dining experience in itself. Will be sure to return when we’ve saved up some more ££!!

We stopped for lunch here and it was our first time since the pub has changed hands. We weren't disappointed. The food was delicious, the open fire was welcoming, friendly staff. We will certainly be back very soon.

No Sunday roasts despite it being a Sunday! Nonchalant response blaming high demand and tried to blame us for turning up late despite arriving at the agreed time which wouldn't have made any difference in any event. Seats torn too. Poor management imo, can't recommend at all.

Excellent meal - staying locally for husband’s 60th birthday so booked for lunch on our arrival. 5 adults and one baby, enjoyed by everyone lovely staff and excellent food excellent value for money. A big thank you from me for the vegetarian option best meal I’ve had in a long time proper vegetarian food no fake meat. Too many places now just offer a vegan option to cover both vegetarian and vegan usually meaning highly processed fake meat.
