Was recommended to the cafe by a local and I am so glad we were. A small cafe and due to the weather being poor all the tables inside were full it is quite noisy, but that didn’t stop us enjoying our lunch. My husband said outside looked lovely so next time we will go outside weather permitting. The food was good and the presentation of the food excellent. A great find, thank you.

Had a lovely sausage sandwich while staying across the road in our holiday cottage, service was great food very tasty. The only question I have is why these coffee shops seem to only open half the week especially in what must be a busy time for hungry tourists looking to drop in for a tasty bite

Came with four other people for coffee and a snack lunch. Only one other couple in front of us. We've been waiting over half an hour and still not been served a drink. Organisational chaos. Food looks good but would never come here again.

No wonder this place is busy! By the time I'd finished the beautiful lunchtime platter, I couldn't manage desert. That is a rare event. You'd pay nearly double in some restaurants for food like this.

This IS a lovely cafe that we’ve wanted to go for a while and we WERE not disappointed! Fabulous!Simon and team were very accommodating prior to visiting to accommodate the needs of a member of my family with a significant physical disability including accommodating his menu choices. Staff were friendly and warm throughout our lunch which was of the highest quality from a varied and appealing menu. Our dog was made extremely welcome so definitely woof compliant! Our relatives who were on holiday and who came with my partner and I have been in touch to say they both gave Hearts 5/5. So we will definitely be back including to check out the lovely garden. Big shout out to Simon and team!

I was tempted not to tell anyone about this place, set in the delightful village of Ampleforth, we stayed above The Heart of Ampleforth cafe, do not be put off by the lack of onsite parking, we had no trouble parking outside at all. The food is amazing, the family that run it are wonderful, the apartment is beautiful, the welcome package was milk, tea, coffee, sugar, condiments, cleaning products, freshly baked bread, local marmalade, biscuits and crisps, never had that much in previous rentals, I was genuinely gutted to leave, they’re a wonderful family. It shuts at 4 so then you get the outside space to yourself. The Swan pub is literally a minute down the road, again, great food and wonderful genuine locals. We were here because my husband was doing a bike ride, there’s loads of them, I went on a lovely walk to see Antony Gormley stargazing statue, the chap who did the 100 statues in Liverpool looking out to sea, turns out he went to Ampleforth College so donated it. Close to the city of York, which is now our best city! We toured York Minster, walked the walls, went to The Shambles, Harry Potter fans will love it, I couldn’t recommend it enough, as I said, Art of me doesn’t want you to know about it!

Booked a 2 bedroom flat over the Hearts of Ampleforth cafe, super apartment, fully equipped kitchen, gorgeous bathroom in the center of Ampleforth. We did have a couple of issues as when we booked we had planned to have breakfast in the cafe below but when we arrived we found they had closed for 2weeks,there was no indication of this when we booked and no communication that it was not going to be available. Had we known we would have moved our dates. On arrival we were told the key was in a box,it was key coded so we tried to call the owners for the code but the only number we had had the answering machine on telling us they were closed for that week but gave no other contact number. This left us stranded, thankfully the local post office helped as they had customers who knew people who worked for the owners. Once we called they did apologise they forgot to send the code. Once in the apartment was lovely, but we had a problem with the heating as it wouldn't seem to go above 15c and it was pretty cold. They had provided some bread ,milk, jam, coffee and tea. Despite the issues I would still come again as its well situated and well furnished.

We have been to Hearts a few times now after we've been walking, and it is consistently good! In fact it's really excellent. The service is attentive and the food is really well put together, they obviously put a lot of thought and care into it. The coffee is good quality, and the sandwiches are imaginative and come with really lovely, fresh and interesting side salads, which lift this place way above being just an ordinary cafe. I had the Welsh rarebit on this occasion, and it was delicious. I would visit more frequently if I could, but Ampleforth is a bit of a distance for me to travel, so I think of it as a special treat. We will hopefully be back soon!

We chose the Middleton arms after seeing pictures of the gammon steak on Facebook, unfortunately this was sold out on the evening we went along with a few other dishes on the menu. I ordered the potato skins starter which came as a large portion which I enjoyed followed by Whitby scampi, this was average with frozen scampi. My wife had garlic mushrooms for starter which was okay, for main she had steak pie which she said was very nice.

Having been to the Stapleton Arms at Wass on many occasions and even been shown the bedrooms, 4 of us booked B&B and evening meals. I booked online 2 rooms. The 'Superior' room £150 per night and the other £100. However, we were not aware the venue had changed hands but it almost immediately became apparent. The stairs leading to the bedrooms looked very tierd and unhoovered. The landing and our bedroom stank of burnt fat and the rooms were very basic and on opening the wardrobe I found empty drink bottles. The door to the shower had black rising up it and the shower just ran like a tap.. Our meal was fine and our friends ordered a bottle of champagne which cost £70 which we were happy to pay but when the bill for the meal arrived it was altogether £340. They had even charged extra for a blob of icecream on my pudding as they said icecream was an extra. Next morning we met at breakfast only to discover that our friend staying in the 'Superior' room, one of whom is very seriously ill and this was supposed to be a treat during a break from treatment, found the shower was not working and they couldn't find a shaving ;point. Just to add insult to injury one of our party ordered a poached egg and when it arrived the toast was burnt black on the underside and my bacon was floating in fat. Had it not been for the fact that one of our party was very ill and we didn't want to make a fuss we paid up the bill and left. Not once did the manager ask us if everything was o.k. He was totally uninterested. What a nightmare stay. Never again, The next morning I phoned to speak to the owner but she was not at work but would ring me on the Thursday of that week. She never rang. I rang back a week later and was told the owner had been given my complaint and she would ring me but another weerk later I have received no response. I suppose she is £600 better off and we will never grace their doors again.
