We were looking for a new venue to have Sunday lunch and decided to try the Dog and Gun at Knayton ………we were not disappointed! This village pub has had new owners since August 2024 and we can thoroughly recommend a visit. It is only a short distance off the A19 in the small village of Knayton. On arrival we had a fantastic welcome from the new landlady Paula and we were made to feel very welcome - just like long lost old friends! We had reserved a table and this is must as it gets extremely busy, especially on Sundays. The Sunday lunch menu has a choice of five starters and six main courses and if you are vegan or vegetarian there are some options. The roast dinners are locally sourced grass fed beef, free range pork and free range chicken - it is so rare to find meat/chicken of this quality and this shines through in the dinners. The portions are excellent with crispy proper roast potatoes, large homemade Yorkshire puddings, fluffy mashed potato and seasonal vegetables. Everything tastes homemade, which it is, and the dinners that we had came piping hot. We could not fault anything, so well done to the chef Lucy and her team. It was the best Sunday lunch that we have had in a long while and we have had a few! The service was excellent and Steven who served us was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. It was hard to believe that the new owners, who have never had any experience in the hospitality industry, had only been in for a few weeks so huge congratulations to them and I am sure that they will be hugely successful in their new venture. We were so impressed with this village pub that we have booked to go again. We would highly recommend this village pub, but be sure to book first to be sure of getting a table.

Lovely cosy cafe. Arrived unannounced, with a large group of people with additional needs but were made very welcome and seated very quickly. The staff were very kind, patient and helpful. A good choice of lunchtime meals and snacks which everyone enjoyed. Would visit again when in the area.

A really pleasant pub, much larger then expected but maintains it's atmosphere. Staff are very polite and friendly without being unecessarily attentive. The food was delicious and good value for money. Dog and child friendly. Would recommend.

Lovely spot for local food and drink, including ice cream for both humans and dogs. We had a lovely slab of homemade red velvet cake and a coffee and walnut slice together with coffees. Rustic decor and hospitable staff.

The once solid and reliable Provenance Inns seems to be in crisis. Having had a poor experience at The Punchbowl at Marton we were equally unimpressed here. I share the previous reviewer’s thoughts. Young inexperienced waiting staff and not enough of them led to unacceptable delays. The steak pie was most forgettable as was the prawn cocktail. With the high price of eating out now you have a right to expect better than this unless you have low expectations. Spotless toilets was the only positive.

Had 3 beers on tap from a menu of 10, none were any good. Roasting hot. No idea what's going on here. The beer was so bad a friend wound up with a bottle Amstel. Horribly expensive and like a sauna.
