Enchanting country pub with good quality food. I stopped for lunch after a trip to Bodenham Lake Nature Reservr nearby. Good choice of beers, high quality pub style food and friendly service. On a lovely day the garden area is stunning.

This is a great place to eat…especially on a lovely sunny day, which it was for us. We sat outside and were very quickly served by a lovely lady. My husband had the full big English break fast, all fresh cooked, no microwave heating up of the first class quality bacon and sausage, it looked and was grease free served up beautifully. For me it was my usual of sourdough toast, mashed avocado and poached eggs with added fried halloumi. I have eaten this dish…minus the halloumi…. all over the UK over a number of years…..this was absolutely perfect 20 out of 10 !! The young man who cooked it has this off to perfection, lovely mashed avocado, perfectly poached eggs ( no under cooked whites, but just right runny yolks), a good slice of sourdough toast and a drizzle of chilli jam and crispy halloumi, I’m drooling just thinking of it. Lovely coffee. The staff were great, attentive and friendly. Totally recommend this place and we will be back when in the area.

The service is terrible. It's very slow and the girl behind the counter took 10 minutes to collect a sausage roll from the hot shelf that was behind her. Another guy was waiting 25 minutes for a bacon bap. It seemed that they were doing one order at a time which is an impossible way to run a cafe. When I was at the takeaway hatch to order 2 hot chocolates, despite being the next in thr queue, the guy working the hatch invited 2 women from the inside queue to order outside and then served them before me! When I asked him why he was serving them before me when I was in the queue, he seemed to think he had done nothing wrong and doubled down. Whether he deliberately didn't want to admit his mistake and apologise or he genuinely couldn't see anything wrong with it, the poor service has been a real let down. I had to keep pushing that it is poor customer service and I got the hot chocolates on the house which I appreciate but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Friendly staff and good food, in an historic inn. Food is good pub food served with a smile. Made to feel welcome.

We had sandwiches to go for our walk, both very nice and tasty, and priceworthy. Lasted all day. Also two very nice ladies managing the place.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.

Went with a group for a Christmas Dinner to the Fairway Restaurant. Room was cold, no sign of Christmas, no decorations, no crackers etc. Meal when it arrived was almost cold and greasy. Small piece of turkey like you'd find in the last pieces left at a deli. Yorkshire puddings (at least I think that's what they were meant to be) were flat and looked like pieces of round pastry - quite a few were black! Someone near to me had fish which was overcooked and hard. There was a very small puddle of something underneath it all which we assumed was meant to be gravy, but was an indeterminate colour. I was on the point of sending it back, but people near to me were so embarrassed and didn't want to make a scene. I left most of it. I did tell the waitress it was the worst meal I could remember having, and told her why. The person with the overcooked fish also complained. She did apologise and said she'd tell the chef. Response? Nothing. Most people were muttering but unfortunately were either too embarrassed, or too polite to complain. The tables were like those in schools, with nothing to cheer them up, no cloths, no decoration. It was like eating in a works canteen. The Christmas pudding was better, at least it was hot, and the brandy sauce acceptable even though you could hardly see it. The cheesecake was minute, no choice of cream or ice cream, both just plonked on top, and again, very little. I don't know how they dare charge £20 for it.
