The best restaurants in Lyth Valley South Lakeland North West

I booked lunch for Christmas Eve for my family. The service was awful, the food was dry and we waited so long to be even asked about desert we ended giving up and left.

It is the mark of a truly great restaurant when you make a last minute booking, trun up 10 minutes later & your expectations are excelled agai, great food, great service, great atmosphere, very good value for money. A truly professional operation. If you want great food & service….. don’t delay😁👍🏻

A lovely warm welcome when we arrived. We hadn’t booked and that wasn’t a problem at all. Very dog friendly, warm and cozy. The food that we chose was fabulous. My wife had home made carrot and coriander soup with bread which she thoroughly enjoyed. The reason for a 4 star and not 5 was because there was no sandwich or lunch type food as an option, just your traditional menu. In fairness this is what you can see on the website if you look in advance. I had steak, mushroom and blue Stilton pie with dauphinoise potatoes which was excellent. They have a wonderful range of beers and wines and what was impressive as we didn’t want alcohol was their equally as impressive range of none alcoholic drinks.

so we went here because it USED to be very good. So we went for Sunday lunch walked in at just before 2 o'clock 5 staff including the chef sat at the bar. nobody said help how are you? what can I get for you? have to been here before? are you here just for a dink or are you here for lunch. so we ordered the drinks and i had explained we had booked for lunch nobody offer us a table so i just asked do we just sit at any table? yes was the reply.( yes there wasn't another customer in there) so when we all sat down I said to my family this place stinks of having skeleton staff just keeping the place open until they find a manager Tennant (yes as we left there was the lease board up) lunch as about £17,95 best description is a poor school dinner, lukewarm small portions naff gravy and everyone pointed out the meal wasn't the same as the menu listed but i hate complaining about food so everyone was asked to just deal with it (yes very english) nobody wanted a coffee or desert and this didn't surprise me. staff were fooling about been stupid, bar maid was speaking to another member of staff whilst servicing us not a word to us, oh mid meal some of my family wanted a 2nd drink they all said oh just wait dad until you have finished your meal but i insitted on looking after them i went to the bar ordered the drinks 3 yes 3 staff behind the bar only 1 serving not one person thought to say please return to your meal sir we will bring your drinks to the table (its like McDonalds but without the service) we will go back but only once we have been told there is some level of management or a new Tennant in the pub.

We just stayed here overnight as we’ve been here before when wanting to avoid the fireworks with our dog. The room was quite small but very clean and comfy and the food and drink was perfect. I highly recommend the amber ale! Staff were very attentive and very friendly and the regulars full of banter! Looking forwards to staying here again the next time we are up in the Lakes.
