Lovely old pub in the village. The food was delicious, using seasonal produce and very well presented and served as one would expect in a 5 star or even Michelin starred establishment. Would highly recommend.

A return visit to this popular spot in the Lake District. Sadly, things have gone down. Lunch menu is less extensive than that at dinner meaning some courses on the blackboard are not available. The ambiance was more like a pub than a restaurant but not at pub prices. Table next to us had 8 people, babies etc. People kept getting up and going outside - to smoke, text or whatever, shouting though the open window. Noisy as were other rooms. Service is also less friendly. We ordered bread (as an extra) and were presented with one slim slice. Even that turned out to be stale. Naturally, we complained and the server said it was what the chef agreed. No offer even to replace. Eventually the chef came out and confirmed that one slice was the offer. We said this was just mean compared to others if you charge extra. He just offered to replace the stale slice - no apology even. Bad look. On the plus side their classic cheese soufflé remains one of the best.

Visited in July for a family dinner. Had an unsettling experience with a (French?) waitress who was patronising and rude when we requested a drink from the fridge which she repeatedly denied was there… even though we could see it right in front of us! Suggest she considers some customer service training as her tone to us was really unpleasant. Other staff were really lovely so we appreciated them making up for her poor service. The food was nice enough but we weren’t blown away - the duck could do with more flavour. Creme brûlée was delicious though.

Grabbed a sneaky last minute night away and fab night it was. Gorgeous old Inn in an amazing part of the Lakes National Park, easy parking, very welcoming at checkin. The rooms and the whole Inn is beautifully decorated , warm and cosy. Room was extremely comfy and great nights sleep was had. Great powerful shower with abundance of hot water. Evening meal was amazing, beautifully prepared and presented and served with a smile, great attentive staff. The cheese soufflé was amazing. Breakfast was great and again served with a smile. Staff all very polite and welcoming . Certainly will return very soon. If have one criticism is that the breakfast choice could have been slightly better to include maybe kippers or haddock and porridge but really didn’t put a dampener on the stay. Huge thanks to all for a fab stay. X

Drove over especially as a bit of a treat to celebrate with my mam. Headlines: A solid 8/10 from us. The food was mostly top notch, the decor rewarding and the service was efficient. Not unreasonable value either. We’d return. Background: We were sat at a spacious table for two next to the window seat. Lovely high chairs. On the recommendation of the Maître d'hôtel, mam and I both opted for potato and Camembert terrine with pickled mushrooms and capers. Doesn’t sound that exciting but MD was passionate and we were persuaded (and rewarded). The sharpness of the ‘shrooms not only cut through but unified the taste of the terrine. Both very delighted. Looked so good on the plate too. Mam had the lamb cannon. She asked for it just past chef’s choice of rare, and it came as requested. Mam thought the miniature shepherd’s pie was uber flavoursome. Great result. I had duck a l’orange. Duck cooked beautifully but I wanted a bit more orange in there. Felt a tad underwhelmed at being denied that. To finish, I had one of the best cheese boards I can remember. Quality and quantity. Very impressed there. Mam had the crème brûlée and was delighted. Service wasn’t perfunctory at all and staff are interested in your opinion and hearing your thoughts, but I’d have liked just a little bit more warmth. I accept that’s my subjective view, but it’s my experience that counts for me. Very happy with our meal. Very happy to leave a nice gratuity and we would return if in the area.

Be very careful when booking as even if you tell the restaurant they will still take the booking deposit. Very disappointed as we live local.

We had an amazing weekend at The Punch Bowl Inn. We and friends stayed there all weekend and had our wedding ceremony there on the Saturday afternoon followed by dinner in the evening. The Punch Bowl staff also catered for an additional 15 friends and family staying in nearby cottages. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were always smiling, welcoming and in good humour. The food was fantastic throughout. The weekend exceeded our expectations.

I had heard a lot for good things about this place and had been meaning to try it for a while... so we chose my birthday to try it...expecting a great things. We couldn't have been more disappointed! Firstly the first person we spoke to at reception was not helpful when we asked about our booking. It then took ages for the staff to work out we had actually booked a table, at this point we were not feeling very welcome at all. There were other people arriving in the restaurant getting menus and being seen to, meanwhile we had been left getting no service. Eventually a man came over with some menus when we mentioned the service, he made it clear he was not interested saying he could not comment. No offer to make us more comfortable or an apology for the treatment so far. Then the time came to order our food. We tried to order some potatoes and we were told it was no longer available because of the time of the day (only 2:15pm) and the only alternative was chips! We didn't want chips and when we complained to this man taking our order he launched into a tirade about running a business and not wanting left over food. This was no way to treat customers. No apology and no attempt to ease the situation. After his tirade we were so shocked and upset that we decided not to continue with our order but to pay our bill for the drinks and leave, We subsequently managed to get in somewhere else and had a lovely meal and the customer service couldn't have been more different. We won't go back to the The Punch Bowl Inn, a place that obviously wants to make lots of money without showing any customer service towards the people that are paying for them. Terrible!

This wasn’t our first trip to stay at the punch bowl in fact we have been visiting for years now and it never disappoints. The rooms are warm clean with lovely decor giving the country cottage feel with the exposed beams and traditional bathroom suits. The staff are friendly and very helpful and can’t do enough to make your visit a pleasant experience. The bar offers 3 local hand pulled beers all well kept and reasonable priced. As for the food this is beyond excellent we stayed for 2 nights but could have done with more just to try the other dishes on the menu. Overall a wonderful stay and we will be back. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the punch bowl and often do.

Somewhat disappointed. “Restaurant /Pub of the year”???! Really?.. Firstly, complete lack of greeting: we were standing not in a very tidy / clear lobby for about 5 mins being ignored by passing staff. Just “Hello, we’ll be with you in a minute” would have helped. Secondly, after we ordered the food, we were told 10 mins later the dishes we ordered are not available. We’ve ordered pre-lunch drinks which never arrived before food. My wife’s tuna was like a piece of fabric… both texture and taste. If you asked why we didn’t tell anything to the staff - no one checked back. Our dishes were half left - that’s how it’s been bad and again while clearing no one asked what’s wrong.

We were at The PunchBowl on Saturday. We had such a wonderful experience unlike previous comments. We too thought we would be unable to travel to the PunchBowl let alone get home. After a lovely meal we were able to sit in the bar area in front of a roaring fire. With plenty of cups of tea and coffee being brought to us. We were helped out to our cars. Whilst we were there, there were people coming in for flasks to be filled / food being taken away. Well done to all the staff.

As a group we were extremely angry with the response from the punch bowl when we phoned to explain that due to the adverse weather conditions we could not get there for our celebratory meal for 12 people. They then took £20 per person, £240 within 30 seconds of the phone call! My wife called to speak to the manager and left her details for them to return her call. No call has been received. From the holiday cottage where we were staying it is normally a five minute drive or 35 min walk in normal conditions. The Punch bowl took £20 per person on credit card which was more than our meals would have cost if we had paid for the cost of each meal. That night, we lost electricity and water due to the snow and still not restored two days later. The next day the Punch bowl said they were closed for meals because of lack of access, but I bet they never give everybody £20 for failure to provide a meal.

We had heard great things about this Inn so expectations were pretty high. Sadly it didn’t quite meet our expectations. Firstly, no one greeted us upon arrival, we sort of wandered to the bar and waited to get the attention of the barman. We were early as we knew we wanted to have a drink before dinner, but we ended up staying there much longer then we envisaged and we’re finally shown to our table 15 minutes after our reservation time. Our waitress was incredibly cheerful, friendly and chatty which is also lovely to see. Even though at the time of being given our menus and being told what the specials/soup of the day were - by the time we came to order the soup had changed from mushroom to tomato - not a big issue but not a great start. Our starters were good - the tall one had queenie scallops which did look good - I had the comforting tomato soup which was a little lack lustre. The tall one ordered a rare steak, whilst the steak was a beautiful piece of beef it most certainly wasn’t rare, safer to say medium. He did mention it to the waitress when she asked how our food was but even though it was offered decided not to have a new steak prepared. Sorry chef but you should know how to cook a steak, this was way off and not what the customer ordered. My fish dish was ok but having been to another fish restaurant two days earlier sadly it didn’t quite hit the mark - my saffron potatoes were tiny, not properly cooked and if there was saffron I certainly couldn’t taste it. It was also under seasoned which is a real shame. The inn is a beautiful location, the restaurant is informal but special at the same time. The menu choice is small but that is a good thing - better quality of products. The one thing that did jar with us is that whilst we didn’t make a big deal re the steak we would have expected some small alteration to the bill acknowledging this but it wasn’t forthcoming. Not the best customer service I’ve seen and considering the cost of the bill, a little shortsighted.

Thursday lunch on a wet October day but the carpark was still reasonably full. We arrived an hour early but despite being busy were immediately seated and served. Room, with an open fire, was so inviting on such a miserable day. Three starters, three mains...

Never usually write reviews but the lunch I had here today was absolutely delicious. cheese soufflé was amazing, followed by the belly pork then the chocolate mouse, both so nice. Thoroughly enjoyable experience, in a lovely setting with very friendly and attentive staff.

Staff were NOT attentive and delays with food and ordering were based on 2 large tables which given it's a restaurant shouldn't come as a surprise. We were told the food would be worth the wait but it really wasn't. Smallest king scallops I've ever...

Having heard good things about the food here we were looking forwards to our meal. General welcome was a little underwhelming to say the least. The atmosphere was lacking something but was not unbearable. Menus arrived quickly and drinks orders taken. Our order consisted of...

Decided to return to the Punchbowl after a long time away. Did not appreciate the owner failing to pass on the VAT deduction to his customers as offered by Rishi Sunak, then Chancellor, during the pandemic. However, that was then, and we fancied a return....

Absolutely delicious. The service was fantastic. We hadn’t booked and arrived at lunchtime on a busy Saturday but they found us a table for 5 for us. Had cheese soufflé and roasted veg for mains ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another excellent meal at The Punch Bowl. As we arrived they apologised as they informed us that due to illness service would be a little slow but it was as wonderful as usual. The menu provided a great choice, as always, but it was the...

Terrible customer service! The young girl at the till clearly did not want to be there. She was huffing and puffing at customers! Yes, it was very busy as yesterday, 15th October was a beautiful autumn day but I would think they would be glad of end of season trade! I could not sit down because they were so busy so opted to ask for take away coffee and cake, only to be told by her 'I'm not doing take away'. Really? The local co-op is closed for a refurbishment and they really could capitalise on that if they employed more capable, less miserable staff! Shocking!! Won't return!

Called here for a takeaway lunch, used them several times before. Service was disappointing to say the least. Not a please or thankyou from the ladies working in the shop - even when I pointed out they'd only charged me for 1 flat white! Previous reviews also highlight the fact that the staff are miserable, they respond but do nothing to address the concerns raised. Also, I would've thought that as u was the only customer in the shop on a very wet day would have been positive for them - obviously not! Not sure I'll return here.

Visited here with my Dad today. Asked for a tea cake and then a scone both not on the menu anymore. I had a bagel with salmon and cream cheese paid over £8 and that was it no sides, no even a bit of salad - didn’t taste great. Dad ordered pancakes in the end 2 tiny pancakes on a dish - still hungry when we left. Not great service either. Disappointed!

Stopped to have a tea, latte and a slice of carrot cake. Great service and a huge slice of cake that we shared. Great value for money.

Called in for a coffee and snack after our frequent walk along the bay and round back into Arnside. When this first opened I was a little wary as we are used to small intimate tea/coffee shops in Arnside. However this was our second visit and as we entered we were greeted by obviously the front of house guy “David”. Wow does this guy know how to do it Welcoming ,friendly, Northern (always a bonus). Had a lovely coffee and Hubby had a great crisp bacon bun. The vibe in this cafe/restaurant is great., modern but great service. We live quite locally and are encouraged to go in the evening now as well. In our opinion the best restaurants are always about the front of house and Crossfields has it right. Everyone in this place has a great view of our beautiful Morecambe bay.
