What a great place to enjoy a pleasant meal. Swarthmoor Hall is a fantastic place to visit with its connection to George Fox and the quacker movement. The cafe has totally improved a visit, the food is good sitting out in the courtyard with the hall as a backdrop and the fells in the distance is a delight. My only criticism and why it is not a five star is the slow service. The kitchen is small and if there are a lot of customers then the very pleasant staff struggle to cope with the orders. Nevertheless so worth a visit and if you are not in a hurry not a problem.

Charities shouldn't play on their status to overcharge their visitors. £11 for a small soup, teas and small cake outrageous. Plenty of better options in Ulverston.

We stopped by this quaint place whilst driving around the Lake district. The food taste is fresh and home made. We enjoyed our hot vegetable soup and sandwiches and the tea with scones and cream. The cake was delicious too. The young lady who served us was courteous and helpful and we enjoyed our meal and our experience there.

I decided to try the barn cafe again this year and went with a friend. This visit was much better the cake was lovely, I opted for lemon cake whilst my friend had scone and jam. The coffee was hot and strong, not weak like last time. Staff were very friendly and as we were sat outside eating, it started to rain and a male member of staff came running out with a tray to help us move everything inside.

This small cafe on site at Swarthmoor Hall is lovely providing great homemade cakes and drinks. It does serve lunches with a daily specials board.

Decided to pop in for coffee and cake. Lovely scenery, very clean cafe and very polite and helpful staff. Unfortunately even though the prices have stayed the same the quality hasn't. The cake slices are much smaller and the coffee is extremely weak, which is a shame as it was lovely last year, but for just under £20 for four of us it just isn't really worth it.

One of our favourite spots for morning coffee and cake or afternoon tea. The staff are always very welcoming and ensure your visit is enjoyable. The cakes and scones are delicious and the tea and coffee made to your own preference.

The Barn Café at Swarthmoor Hall was revamped in the last year or so. I waited for the dust to clear and have visited twice during the Spring and Autumn. Both times the 'hospitality' promised on SH's website fell far short of average. We were met with a cold greeting, endured forgotten drinks, and drinks being given to the wrong people. The last was during a mid-week, off season visit where servers outnumbered tables being used! The baked goods are average (similar to other cafes in the area). The tea unexceptional - Clipper teabags. And the espresso service cold and indifferent. Here's hoping the service warms up in 2017.

We meet up here monthly with friends for morning coffee. It is a lovely setting especially if it is dry and warm so you can sit outside. Service is very good and the tea/coffee and cakes excellent.

This cafe has the most wonderful cakes - I had to visit a second time in a week to re-sample the banana cake and my husband enjoyed the fruit cake and pear and almond slice. Lemon drizzle, coffee and chocolate looked great too. There is just the right amount of icing/filling on the cakes and they are really moist. The teapot and cafetière provide generous amounts of drinks. The cakes are made by the company Jumping Jenny who used to run the teashop at Brantwood. (We were very sad when they gave that up and delighted to find their cakes here at Swarthmoor.) I have no connection with the company in spite of my username! Although it seemed slightly expensive, we felt it was good value. If only we lived nearer...

Not particularly good weather which was a shame as there were tables and chairs dotted about a lovely peaceful garden. We did however get a table inside the nicely restored barn. Service friendly and prompt. Homemade soup piping hot (choice of two) and available with a cheese scone rather than bread. Pot of tea was plentiful. Nice selection of cakes. A lovely unrushed place.

We decided to visit Swarthmoor Hall on an unsettled day, rather than do an outdoor activity with storm warnings. The cafe was also a pull, from the flyers we'd seen it looked good and the Hall interesting. We were not disappointed the cakes were delicious and the pot of tea for two came with 3 tea bags and a jug of hot water so there was plenty of tea and you could have it strong or not, not a choice you often get. Service is friendly and prices reasonable.

A very pleasant cafe. There are three seating areas, outside, downstairs, and upstairs - there are five tables upstairs. The staff are friendly and helpful. I had my nephew with me and straight away they asked if he would like an activity pack free of charge, which had a mask to colour in and plenty of other things for him to do. We had coffee and cake which was delicious, I noticed they also had a selection of freshly made sandwiches. The cafe is extremely clean and tidy and we would definitely go again.

A lovely welcome awaits you, and you can eat inside or outside in the beautiful garden. We ordered tea with scones and received a pot of tea for two with extra hot water so were able to get 4 cups of tea in total. They had lemon to have with the tea which you are often unable to get in poorer establishments. A lovely relaxed atmosphere out in the garden to enjoy morning or afternoon tea.

We visited on a Sunday night when the town was dead. We were 2 of the 8 clientele, the music was great, that’s where it ended for us. The smell of cooking oil wasn’t great, I have a limited sense of smell so for me to smell anything is quite something. Not one for us I’m afraid.

Drove a bit to find the place closed up and in darkness. Why show the business as being open when it isn't. Terrible to have inaccurate information online.

Ate here for dinner the last Saturday in September - very busy so need to book. Enjoyable meal and friendly service. Reasonably pricey, as is everywhere in Grasmere. I had the French onion soup and rack of lamb, both of which were very good indeed.

The Brexit sinking ship forced me to find solace in the grog, only to end up in a vegan restaurant, might as well have fed me to a tribe of cannibals. In all seriousness though the remainders are worse than chain smokers, who at least smoke outside and do not prop up the bar talking about the bygone days of EU compliant sausages ;)
