Came for an evening pizza - guy behind the counter was extremely unpleasant and treated us like idiots. Ordered takeaway and upon coming with it to our hostel we realised one of the pizzas was a wrong one, but fortunately still a vegetarian one. The pizza is quite good but the cheese is not of the best quality.

Nice coffee, but had finished it by the time our croissants arrived. Needed to chase order. Also told no accompanying butter and jam even though listed on menu. Was then offered a butter as " goodwill" Lots of v unhappy people turned away when they finished breakfast menu early. Hopefully just a bad day but we and others won't be back.

I was lucky enough to win 2 pizzas in the Langdale Shows raffle so went today. Pizzas were excellent better than I had in Italy, staff were lovely and friendly and our two dogs were made so welcome with lots of gravy bone biscuits. Will definitely be making a return visit. We stopped in for a cuppa after our hike and decided to have breakfast. The veggie full breakfast was fantastic with a great range of quality products and all perfectly cooked. Probably the best veggie breakfast we’ve ever had. Lovely menu with some great choices and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend it if you’re in the area and would even drive here to have that breakfast again. Well done guys!

I came to this small restaurant for dinner by accident. I originally thought that there were not many choices in the mountainous area, and I didn't have any particular expectations. But the result was unexpected and very delicious! I ordered the goat cheese pizza. The goat cheese was full of flavor and not too conflicting. The marinated tomatoes and bell peppers were the finishing touch. The taste was very balanced and comfortable. It was a thick-crust pizza and was filling. There is also a satisfying feeling, and it is a small restaurant worth recommending!

Our last evening here in Langdale. Evening meal in Slates, Elterwater. A small bistro owned by a nearby hotel; stylish yet charming, excellent food at modest prices, cute young ladies serving and hunky manly men cooking (included for equality). All in an atmosphere of fun and laughter - but only because we were the only customers at the time and I was feeling cheeky. Excellent pasta and pizza. Garlic bread to blow your hat off on request - gorgeous! I don't want to sleep with myself tonight...

The cafe has had a makeover (changed hands?) since I was last there and the decor is very smart, however completely lacking in the freshly baked cheese stone that I was looking forward to and had much enjoyed on previous occasions. The only scone available (fruit), which did not feature on the menu and was not actually on display, was obviously bought in rather than freshly made and therefore for me a big disappointment. I was also not impressed that no prices were displayed for the tea/coffee or "sweet treats" - which were referred to, but not actually identified on the menu and no itemised bill was supplied so I had no idea how much I'd paid for what! In addition there were no "goodbye and thank yous" as we were leaving - it's the little things that encourage people to return!!

We came here as part of a low level walk, and found this cafe a treasure. We had already had breakfast at home, but couldn’t resist the wild mushrooms on ciabatta with the creamy sauce. This was excellent. It’s hard to believe such a simple meal could give so much pleasure. The latte coffee we had was also delicious. The whole place was immaculately cleaned and smart, with widely spaced steady tables, and the rest of the concise menu options looked very explicable, and good value too. I noted a nice range of alcoholic beverages too. We acquired a booklet on local walls, and look forward to returning very soon to sample more of the attractive offerings of this wonderful eatery.

We're regulars at Langdale, so it was interesting to see the old Elterwater post office is now a cafe. We went in after a smaller hike and were very happy. I had a loverly buttermilk chicken burger and my partner had a chicken pesto sandwhich. My burger was fantastic and we both thought the chips were top notch. Very friendly staff, reasonable prices. The only real downside is that its mostly indoor seating, with a small amount of outdoor seating but I can't imagine there is much they can do about that. I would happily eat here again and recommend it to anyone stopping by for lunch.

I stayed at the youth hostel in Elterwater when I was 11 years old. I'm now drawing my pension so that was a while back. Whilst my wife and friends were doing battle with the Fairfield Horseshoe I returned. Lovely little village. I called at Slates and it was a pleasant and very enjoyable experience. I'm not really a burger fan but, after an early start to the day, was ready to eat and drink. I can honestly say this was the best burger I have ever had. It was full of flavour with a generous cheese topping a lovely side salad. I stayed for around an hour and found there was both passing trade and customers using the tables both inside and out. Some of these were obviously locals which is always a good sign. We do not get into the Lakes with any regularity but, the next time we are around, we will be there. Hope you guys are proud of what you are delivering. My only disappointment was that I couldn't eat more!

Called here for a takeaway lunch, used them several times before. Service was disappointing to say the least. Not a please or thankyou from the ladies working in the shop - even when I pointed out they'd only charged me for 1 flat white! Previous reviews also highlight the fact that the staff are miserable, they respond but do nothing to address the concerns raised. Also, I would've thought that as u was the only customer in the shop on a very wet day would have been positive for them - obviously not! Not sure I'll return here.

Visited here with my Dad today. Asked for a tea cake and then a scone both not on the menu anymore. I had a bagel with salmon and cream cheese paid over £8 and that was it no sides, no even a bit of salad - didn’t taste great. Dad ordered pancakes in the end 2 tiny pancakes on a dish - still hungry when we left. Not great service either. Disappointed!

Terrible customer service! The young girl at the till clearly did not want to be there. She was huffing and puffing at customers! Yes, it was very busy as yesterday, 15th October was a beautiful autumn day but I would think they would be glad of end of season trade! I could not sit down because they were so busy so opted to ask for take away coffee and cake, only to be told by her 'I'm not doing take away'. Really? The local co-op is closed for a refurbishment and they really could capitalise on that if they employed more capable, less miserable staff! Shocking!! Won't return!

Called in for a coffee and snack after our frequent walk along the bay and round back into Arnside. When this first opened I was a little wary as we are used to small intimate tea/coffee shops in Arnside. However this was our second visit and as we entered we were greeted by obviously the front of house guy “David”. Wow does this guy know how to do it Welcoming ,friendly, Northern (always a bonus). Had a lovely coffee and Hubby had a great crisp bacon bun. The vibe in this cafe/restaurant is great., modern but great service. We live quite locally and are encouraged to go in the evening now as well. In our opinion the best restaurants are always about the front of house and Crossfields has it right. Everyone in this place has a great view of our beautiful Morecambe bay.
