The best restaurants in Irthing Carlisle North West

This cafe has just won Best Cafe in England Award..........whilst this is a lovely cafe and adjoining shop the menu is definitely lacking. For people with dairy or egg intolerances or requiring vegan diets there is nothing . We mentioned about dairy/egg allergies and asked if they had anything vegan. Was told nothing on the menu but they could "veganise" anything on the menu. Great we thought...... we opted for a vegetarian sausage bap which we were told was actually vegan..... after about 10 minutes we were told they didn't have any; but they could rustle up a delicious vegan breakfast instead. Excellent we thought....... after about 20 minutes the food arrived with dry toast, (no dairyfree spread), a few undercooked mushrooms and tomato, a small pot of beans and a couple of handmade potato cakes which were nice ..... all topped off with a fried egg!!!! They clearly do not understand that dairy and eggs can be very dangerous for people with allergies. Lovely cafe if you can eat anything otherwise don't bother

Had a smashing breakfast, served by delightful staff. Dog friendly and very comfortable and relaxed.

Lovely stopping off point after a long walk. First class food- both the evening meal and the breakfast. Lots of little extra touches that made the stay perfect including a place to leave soggy boots to dry off so they were nice and toastie the next morning. Welcoming host who made this solo female walker feel safe and welcome. Highly recommended.

We ate and stayed at Farlam Hall. The tasting menu at Cedar Tree overall was good. Breaking it down the set of three paired snacks were delicious and really set us up for the mains. However the duck was average, the scallops were poor, the 2xgame terrine was ok but the two sauces served with it just didnt work and the liver parfait sandwich was out of place and unneccesary. The sorbet/granita was beautiful and the main dessert and petit fours were fine. Overall I would say that the food was just below average for a 1 starred restaurant. Service was mixed. The sommelier (Bulgarian lady) was superb and clearly well trained. The rest of the staff however whilst very pleasant were below par - spilled sauces whilst serving, dishes brought to the wrong tables and when our scallops were served there were no scallops in the dish!! Staff realised this after a few minutes and whilst we were hunting madly through the sauce for signs of a scallop..!! To be fair it was rectified promptly and provided a comedic moment for all but this is a 1 star restaurant. Also whilst staying in our room we could clearly hear from our bathroom two chefs outside yelling at each other outside the kitchen in the yard for about ten minutes using some pretty extreme language. The way the senior chef was speaking to his subordinate was frankly appaling and extremely unprofessional. We learnt later on that Hrishi was not working that evening…. Would we return? Probably not and I think Hrishi needs to sort these issues out…there’s too much competition in the area to ignore them.

Excellent tea and scones and a very welcoming atmosphere. Only problem was that there was a selection of about 8 to 10 cakes all of which i wanted to eat. Choosing one proved stressful but ultimately sensible. Thank you for the great experience

Wonderful homemade soups served with a delicious cheese scone which I now enjoy weekly prior to my art class. Great value too

Excellent food and friendly service. We enjoyed some well prepared jacket potatoes with a good selection of toppings. Drinks included a tasty local ginger beer. We were almost tempted by a great looking tiramisu cake but managed to resist.

It's a lovely cafe and we were served swiftly but then it wasn't busy. I had a lovely warmed cheese scone but the slice of cake my husband had was very skinny for £4.90. For the price it could have done with being a little bigger or at least only £3.90.

Great place to stop and have a rest during shopping or to meet friends, family..food is delicious and the service is good.
