Zyka in Northumberland

We had a great evening at Zyka. The food was delicious and the presentation of the food, particularly the mixed starter, was eye-catching. Mash looked after us really well so the whole experience was relaxing and perfect. All the staff were helpful. We loved the decor and ambience - what a shame the restaurant isn't closer to Norwich!

I think this is probably been the first time I have reviewed a restaurant, but the meal and service that I had at the Zyka really stood out. being in a market town on a Monday night I did not expect to find an Indian meal of this quality. The restaurant was clean and very nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and efficient. I asked for advice on my choice of main meal and the food was exactly as described and just what I wanted. My starter was subtly different with a delightful fresh flavour. The main was spicy and full of flavour but not overly rich. The only regret I have is forgetting the name of the guy who served me who was really helpful, efficient and friendly

The best Indian food we’ve eaten in the UK for nearly 20 years! The food was absolutely delicious - we really couldn’t fault it. We were greeted by Rashid and his team and the service was second to none. All the staff were so attentive and obviously had pride in their work and also in the food they were serving. Would definitely recommend a visit here if you are in Hexham - we’ll certainly go back if we are in the area!

This is the best place to dine at. From reception, service and quality of food, was high standard. The staff couldn't fault them but just sing them praises We had a.lovely time celebrating our friend's 50th birthday.🥳

We found this gem of a restaurant on our visit to Hexham , we were wondering what to eat when we smelt some amazing smells of food coming from somewhere we followed our noses and we found Zyka …. the food was sensational and the service second to none , we were greeted by Mashuk and his team made to feel welcome we were looking for somewhere nice to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary and these guys really helped us do that , the prices reasonable for the great quality of food and we were full and happy once we left , thanks team Zyka for the great experience and when we are back this way we will be sure to come in again 5 star all the way

First time at Zyka, Hexham during the Easter holidays. Had Dinner with family. Quite a busy place . Staff were very accomodating to our needs,Vegetarian in the group.They made us feel welcome. Service was quick. We ordered Chicken chettinad and it was indeed authentic South indian dish cooked to perfection. Other dishes were also punched with traditional flavours. Compliments to chef Khalid who also waited our table along with other friendly staff. Kids loved the food. Would definitely recommend.

We visited Zyka in Hexham for the first time tonight and it won't be the last the 30ile journey was well worth it. The food, staff and restaurant surroundings were excellent. The menu was extensive and made choosing difficult After having Lamb Chops for my starter I asked Mash for a reccomendation for my main course. He reccomended Naga Chicken which was outstanding, the best Indian dish I have had in a long time. The three other family members all enjoyed their meals. This restaurant is throughly worth a visit

What a wonderful restaurant. Lovely service. Nice in side. Impeccably clean. Food was extremely tasty , possibly best curry I’ve had. The sauces were amazing and the naans the best ever. Why a 3 for food ? And overall . By then end of two meals I think we had 4 pieces of chicken in one and 5 small chunks of lamb and I mean small. The price was reasonable but only if there was more meat. Please don’t be tight with the star of the meal. I would go back but only in the promise of more meat …

10/10… out food was outstanding. A little wait between courses which for me isn’t a problem when the food comes out it’s well worth the wait. The staff were very friendly and very attentive. I would highly recommend. My picture is of the starter which was a mix of starters which was beautiful.

Our first visit to this fantastic restaurant. The staff were attentive and friendly especially Mash who looked after us. The food and service were excellent and the restaurant had a really nice ambience and buzz about it. The set menu was a excellent choice and really well priced. This is a real find in Hexham.

No worde to say just outstanding .

My daughter and I called in for meal before a theatre visit. We told the very helpful Rashid that we didn’t have much time, and our fantastic food was served in a timely and professional manner. My daughter is vegan, so was recommended an aubergine and black garlic curry with mushroom pilau, and I had the lamb biryani, with a shared peshwari naan, all of which were stunning! Even the popadoms and pickles were first class, so we will definitely be back soon.

This is the first visit but definitely not the last We are staying over at Hexham as a birthday treat . Coming from Morpeth , we would travel further for this experience again. We will be back. Thank you to Mash and the team

Had my husbands birthday meal here , the food and service was absolutely outstanding, chef Khalid came out to talk to us about the dishes Cheti ,Mash and khalid are what customer service and experience are all about their attention to detail and the customer is just superb , food was outstanding the lamb chops sublime, perfect tasty mushroom rice ,garlic naan to die for with chetinad chicken , nawabi lamb posanda was superb just the best curry house and food experience

We went for a special christmas day meal and we found it excellent. Firstly during the reservation process Rashid was very helpful and as he promised the chef Khaled later sent us a copy of the menu. On arrival the restaurant had fully entered into the festive spirit, it was well decorated, the staff had fun ties on and season music was being played. Tables were nicely decorated with crackers etc. Prosecco on arrival and tasty canapés. The staff were excellent throughout being helpful, friendly and flexible. The restaurant is portrayed as 'boutique' and this certainly isn't your typical indian restaurant food. It was beautifully presented and packed a punch in terms of flavours - specically you could pick out the individual flavours of different spices and ingredients which was a treat. Despite being very busy they were also prepared to be a little bit flexible with the menu selection which we appreciated. We will definitely go back again when we are next in Hexham. Well done and thank you to all.

Christmas Dinner at Zyka was delicious! Beautiful Indian food with a nod to Christmas traditions including turkey and Brussels sprouts with a twist. My gluten intolerance was beautifully catered for, they even created a special and delicious desert for me. Friendly, welcoming and professional service. Good value for money, relaxing and celebrational. Thoroughly recommended!

Everything about Zyka is classy; the decor, the service from Mash and team and most importantly the food. Poppadoms were fresh and warm and the chutneys were outstanding. Great vegetarian selection on the menu and the best naan I've had (roasted garlic & coriander). Don't miss!

Very friendly restaurant serving a wide range of Indian food. Service very good with food served promptly and delicious.

Zyka is, hands down, our favourite place to eat out. The staff are amazing (Hi Mashuk!) and the food has been exceptional every time we have visited or ordered takeout. We had the Raja Jinga, Aloo Gobi and Beetroot Chilli this time but the Veggie Black Garlic and Monkfish Salan are go-to favourites.

Another wonderful evening last Friday with the Miah brothers - Rashid, Mashuk and Chef Khaled. The warmest of welcomes, great service and excellent food. Khaled's iventiveness artistry and attention to detail is first class. We won't leave it quite so long until our next visit! J & K

Had a meal at zyka with my dad last saterday food was terrible my dad got a king prawn started which came mushy and had to be sent back staff was very rude also I would never be back and would not recommend.

Exquisite starter (picture doesn’t do it justice) followed by a great main course. Was looked after by Rashid - very welcoming and friendly. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Stunning. Food, Service, Ambience…all great, made wonderful by Mash and his team of friendly, attentive, and very patient waiters who were even able to laugh at my jokes. The real treat though was the excellent food, competing with the best of my Indian friends’ meals. Just so much flavour and massive portions.

We have been to Zyka lots of times in the last year and have never been disappointed. The food is always delicious with generous portions and the service extremely friendly and polite. We have recommended his restaurant to so many of our friends. Thank you to all the staff who work so hard and make every visit here a pleasure.

On our way back south to Wiltshire, after a short tour of the North East, we spent the night in Hexham. After searching many places, we spotted this absolute gem of a place. A huge thanks to Mash and the guys. Julie absolutely loved the vegan options, and mine was amazing. If it wasn't nearly 6hrs away, we'd ne back next week.

Went in on a Wednesday got sat down and served immediately. Mash served us and was very friendly and attentive(could’ve been spelled Mesh actually?) we never went thirsty and the food was superb. Our server was knowledgeable about the food and could tell us what was in the food and sauces we didn’t recognise. Great experience overall.

We had a very enjoyable experience at this restaurant. Everything was just great. I had the black garlic chicken as my main and it was very flavoursome. The garlic naan was the best I have ever had. There was plenty of food and it was reasonably priced. We also loved the modern decor but perhaps the highlight of the evening was the quality of service from the all staff and in particular Mash. They ensured the dining experience was happy and relaxed. We came upon this restaurant almost by chance but it was a lucky find and we will most definitely return.

We visited for our granddaughters 10th birthday. The staff made a real fuss of her and encouraged the whole restaurant to join in singing happy birthday to her. She was delighted. We enjoyed phenomenal food and exceptional service.We cannot thank the amazing staff enough for making it such a special evening Special thanks to Rashid for friendly and charming attention to the birthday girl. Absolutely the best restaurant in the North.

We had booked early as we were going to an event at the Queen's Hall and it was just as well we did as the place was very busy. That's normally a good sign. The restaurant is smart and modern in its decor and the service throughout was very good. However at a table across from ours one of the waiters was very loudly berating a colleague for something or other. I don't this his workmate really deserved to be embarrassed in front of a restaurant full of customers. On to the food - I'm afraid to say we found to to be very ordinary, really nothing to get excited about. The simple things line the naan and the rice were very good but we were left underwhelmed by the main dishes. The chicken chetinad was OK, that's all. My vindaloo was extremely disappointing but to be fair, finding a really good vindaloo in an Indian restaurant is surprisingly difficult these days. It consisted of the house tomato-based sauce pepped up by the addition of more chili powder and some vinegar, that doesn't make it a vindaloo I'm afraid. The menu suggested it should be hot but it was at the medium level of spice according to my palate. Also vindaloo should come with potato but not here. The side dish of palak saag was good. Maybe we just picked the wrong dishes.

This Indian restaurant is up there with the best we have eaten in. It has a very good atmosphere and the staff were very polite and friendly. Special mention has to go to Mash who looked after our table in the evening that we ate there. The restaurant has the best TripAdvisor reviews for an Indian restaurant in Hexham and for good reason. The food was delicious. There were several of us and we had six different dishes (two of us had the same). All of us agreed that our food was excellent. The menu choices are very varied and there are some very interesting alternatives including duck which was very spicy and tender. We would definitely eat here again if ever we visit this lovely town.

Fine dining to a tea a warm welcome from the manager rashid not to forget the dreamy decor and relaxing music which really made our experience here x10 better, mash was really helpful while we were trying to choose what we wanted I went for prawn starter the presentation was aesthetic but the flavours exceeded my expectations, coming back for sure 👏

Zyma is excellent in every respect. The staff are very welcoming and the service is good. The overall ambience is good and the tablecloths and layout of the table create an upmarket atmosphere. I have visited India on numerous occasions and find the food to be very different to that served in the UK at Indian restaurants. In particular dishes are not ‘hot’: rather they are marinated for a long time and the food is infused with the flavour of the spices and herbs. This was certainly the case at Zyka My Railway lamb curry was labelled with two peppers, so I was a little dubious at first, but it was delicious with a delicious flavour and little heat; just what I would have expected in India. My wife’s korma was similarly excellent Definitely a must eat restaurant and one I would visit regularly if I lived locally

Excellent food with a range of choices which are not the "usual fare" (though these are on the menu for those seeking familiar dishes). Even the naan breads were a cut above!!...

No doubt the best dining experience this year. From the start we called up in advance to book a table and the telephone manner was incredible and inviting. The decor was beyond powerful, the second you enter through the door you are transported to India full of peaceful music and cosy furnishings and lighting. Suv and Mash were amazing hosts and both strived to ensure our visit was a extraordinary one (a rare treat nowadays). They treated us like royalty and made sure everything was perfect. Massive compliments to the chefs: the Food was divine and beyond gourmet standard. I had a chicken tikka madras with extra garlic (much to my partners distain), keema rice and keema naans all the way. The other half had a chicken tikka kasmeri with all the trimmings and needless to say the plates were emptied and both stuffed. Only minor drawback, we found was the price of the diet cokes which came to two for £10, pretty steep. In all an amazing night, delicious food, warm & friendly hosts and to top it off a newly discovered favourite restaurant. Will be back for sure Aaron & Lisa The House of Penguin🐧

We've just come back from an excellent meal at Zyka. The service was friendly, prompt and attentive. The food was - from light and crispy poppadoms, freshly made samosas, naan and huge bhajis, to vegetable curry, dahl and Railway Lamb - delicious. We even got to meet the chef - a charming young man who showed he cared about fresh ingredients and cooking with passion.

When we arrived it was very busy. In the tiny entrance people were arriving for takeaway and for tables a group of us were then taken upstairs. As the evening went along service waned and being upstairs put us all out of sight of catching a waiters eye. At one point I received a glass of wine I didn't ask for or then drink but was charged. We got the bill but no one returned for payment so we decided to make our way down to the tiny entrance. In the fluster of people coming in and out or congregating for orders /tables I accidentally put my pin number in wrong and my card declined. I felt a real fool and my anxiety shot up. Luckily the waiter sat me down so I wasn't centre of attention to all and I completed the simple task with no issue. The food WAS tasty,served hot and well presented. I do think that some of the staff were new and being shown the ropes therefore, errors and attentiveness perhaps came adrift because of this. Staff were pleasant when they did attend but maybe have one person dedicated to upstairs when there are 20 people?

If I could give 10 stars I would. It has been a very long time since I’ve tasted food as fabulous as this restaurant produces. Right down to the salad which tasted as though it was fresh picked from the garden. Rashid looked after our table with just the right amount of attention. All I can say is GO and have yourself a meal that’s worth every penny. How often have you been able to say that? All the dishes that we had on our table of 9 were absolutely delicious, so no need to say which are good and which are not. Whichever dish you choose you’ll love it. Can’t wait to go back!

Last minute decision to call and have a take away while travelling across country. Best decision of the day. The food was delicious and good portion size. It's not very often I recommend eating establishments but highly recommend this one. Will certainly use again and look forward to eating in when the restaurant reopens. On a work trip and felt like Indian food, I walked around the town centre to explore the area and this place caught my eye! I asked in my hotel where is popular for that kind of food and immediately they said a lot of their customers go here and recommended it. Food is fantastic!

We ordered take away from here last night. We ordered two dishes that we had never seen before - the vegetable with black garlic sauce, and the vegetable beetroot chilli. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, really first class. We were extremely impressed and will definitely eat here again. Highly recommended.

We had planned to walk to another restaurant when we saw Zyka. Instead of walking by, we looked at the menu and decided to try it. The surroundings were elegant, and there were a lot of people dining there. We decided on the Railway Lamb Curry and the spinach with garlic. With steamed rice. Our charming waiter, Mash, asked if we’d like to nibble on poppadoms and pickles while we waited. We agreed, and they were perfect. The lamb and spinach were wonderful, too. I’m very pleased to recommend Zyka to anyone visiting Hexham. But it’d also be a great place for business meetings or a date night.

Been here three times this year and every time has been fantastic.

Just been to Zyka and popped in on the off chance there was a table going. Luckily they made room for us, and I couldn't be happier. Had the sharing platter, chicken balti, and chicken shashlik. Absolutely amazing food, friendly, helpful service. Great atmosphere. I wish I lived closer so I could go more often, but we will definitely be back. Thank you for a fantastic eating experience.
