Excellent food, service and welcome. The salads are wonderful. Fresh and good quality ingredients. I’m a healthy eating freak and don’t go for toasties and paninis so a delicious and healthy salad is a rare and welcome option that isn’t offered at a lot of eating places. Their menu is varied catering to different tastes. Oh and their cakes are to die for when you fancy a sweet treat. Book to avoid disappointment as this place is very popular!

Walked in on the off chance with my wife having lived in Dunmow 12 and 15 years respectively. Our first visit but certainly not our last. My ploughman's was superb and beautifully presented. My wife's salad was excellent and the obligatory milk shake was wonderful. Reasonably priced, service with a smile nothing was too much trouble and to add to it, I believe the cafe is dog friendly. Long live the local cafe!

We had a great meal. They were busy, but managed to find us a table in the back courtyard area. Despite being busy, service was good, friendly and efficient. We had two platters, and they were excellent, with freshly cooked food, and fresh ingredients and accompaniments. There was more than enough for the four of us. I think all the food was home cooked. We will definitely revisit when in the area.

The food was ok, the service was slow and the staff weren’t particularly friendly. The most disappointing aspect of the visit was the lack of appropriate high chairs. When I asked I was presented with a booster chair which would only be suitable for much older children 3 years +. It resulted in me having to juggle my 8 month old daughter on my lap for the duration of the meal. Neither of us were able to eat properly around the table. It really spoilt the enjoyment of our meal for both of us. For a cafe of this size I don’t think it would be too much to expect better facilities for young patrons. (Ikea do a great highchair for £17)

Quiet, lifeless interior and fed up looking staff. Went with my laptop and after 20 minutes felt eyes glaring at me to buy something else. Bland, lifeless coffee that would excite no one, sandwich was ok - bread a bit crusty due to being left out I guess as more stale than crusty. A pretty woeful experience I wish I’d not bothered with, just wanted a nice coffee and sandwich. Sadly this place failed miserably. Must try harder, how hard can that bit be? Amazes me when I can go 50 yards up the road and get a decent coffee. Definitely won’t go back, coffee loyalty card in the bin

I met a friend at Meadow Hill for lunch, apprehensive as I suffer with GERD and I’m really restricted to what I can eat/drink at the moment. The setting is lovely and the staff all very friendly and helpful. We were there a couple of hours and the service remained friendly and efficient throughout. I can’t have caffeine, dairy, or gluten among other things. They were able to cater for all with a decaf pot of tea with soya milk, and the most incredible fish platter with gluten free bread. I asked for the bread to be toasted as I find GF bread very dry, and that wasn’t a problem. Dairy free spread for the toast, and the fish was so so good. I didn’t feel like I was eating anything free from as the plate contents combined were so tasty. I’ll definitely be back, I expect for all of my lunches as most places can’t cater for my dietary requirements, but Meadow Hill nailed it!

We were unable to book beforehand but at around 11, it was possible to get a table. The menu was not limited which was great to see - it was identical to before Covid. Each table is limited to a maximum of 1 hour but I get the impression that if there is not a queue, that they will be flexible with this. We were so pleased to be back at Meadow Hill for lunch and everything about our visit was perfect.

I went to this cafe last week around quarter to two and asked if it was okay if I just had a coffee while I was doing some work on my laptop. The woman said it was fine and took my details. She gave me a menu and was friendly enough but wasn't very smiley. I ordered a latte and carried on with my work. The woman came to give me my coffee but told me that they would be closing at 2:30 that day because it was so hot. The place usually closes at 3! Why couldn't they have told me that before I ordered my drink? If I had known they were closing early I would have gone somewhere else. I spent the whole time feeling very concerned about the time. At about 2:25 I packed everything away and stood up to pay. The two women, who had ordered cake, asked another member of staff if they had to leave but were told that they could stay and they want everyone out by 3. Why was I told differently? I'm not from around here and just wanted a nice place to sit while I did my work but was made to feel very rushed and uncomfortable. I won't be returning but I doubt they will care, as they didn't seem very happy to have me as their customer anyway.

My partner and I visited this little cafe, having enjoyed it a while ago. We ordered coffee and toast for myself, which came quite promptly. One piece of toast was burnt black, the other hardly toasted at all. I was actually surprised that they would serve it up. The little jam pot that came with it was half empty ( which they did apologise for before changing ) I ate one half of the one of the slices, and left the rest. As we sat finishing my coffee a member of staff asked the table next to us if everything was ok with her food, never came to our table to ask, even though it was obviously not as 3/4 of black toast remained uneaten. Coffee was nice and staff were friendly. But I wont waste my money with another visit.

We visited Meadow Hill with high hopes, but sadly it didn't live up to expectations due to one major aspect - the bacon was bad. We ordered poached eggs on toast with extra bacon (£2.40 for 2 rashers) and a bacon butty (which turned out to actually be a sandwich). The fat on the bacon was white and gelatinous - completely inedible, meaning that you had to dissect the sandwich to remove it. It was the type of bacon that they serve out of vans by the side of the road. Good bacon should be crispy, with the fat round the edges cooked so that it is brown. Good bacon should have a nice taste - not overly salty and acidic. This was not good bacon. This was bad bacon. It doesn't matter if you say on the menu that it's "local bacon," it doesn't mean that it's quality meat. After all, Tesco is local, it's just up the road. Our breakfast cost £15.50 in total, including 2 glasses of orange juice. We could have bought 4 packets of really good, organic, quality bacon for this. The only saving grace to the meal was that the staff were lovely.

We asked the member of staff if that was ours...she miraculously knew that it wasn't, even though she hadn't even asked our name. She was very abrupt and told us there were no tables. I said I had booked, she said someone had forgotten to put it in the book. I was there when the assistant put it in the book. She showed me the book...my name was the first booking of the day. She then offered us the table...by this time and with her abrupt attitude...my sister wanted to leave. Very upsetting as it was a lunch for a big birthday. We have had numerous lunches in there. My dinner for 4 is sorted for this evening too.... It would definitely recommend popping in for lunch either on your own or a coach load

My partner and I visited Zoe's and unfortunately we were not very impressed. We were greeted by who seemed to be the owner and asked to take a seat as we said we were sitting in. There were a few other tables at the time we were there. The service I'm afraid to say is very low. The lady doesn't seem to either enjoy what she is doing or really doesn't have the personality to work in this type of sector. We ordered something light as just wanted a snack, this consisted of a coffee, cream tea and sausage roll with a salad garnish. It seemed that what we ordered wasn't sufficient enoughThe table we were at was dirty, the floor was dirty and the CUTTLERY was water stained and coffee stained on the spoon. The cream tea was quite poor, you would expect clotted cream, not whipped with a scone. My partners coffee wasn't very strong and you could see the milk had been reheated (maybe more than once) from the look of the froth. The sausage roll wasn't all that either.I must say that we try to support our locals and having tried a few places in dunmow, we feel some stand above the rest. I have read the reviews on Zoe's and from my own experience and what I have read, I really think that service needs to be addressed and customers need to feel welcome asit is such an important aspect of a business.I am sorry to say that I don't think we will be returning.

2nd visit, 1st visit I purchased a takeout cappuccino, was terrible tasted of nothing, I had an appointment so no time to take back was served by quite a patronising lady. Gave a second go today took my partner, Was ignored, for what seemed like forever. So staff seem to spend all the time where the fridges are, very difficult to attract attention when you can't see them, The breakfast was good. But so expensive we had poached egg on toast, and my husband had extra bacon that consisted of 2 small rashers, this was an extra £2.40!!! Madness! Staff seem so uninterested, gave up waiting to attract someone's attention to ask for bill so stood by till, young waitress didn't seem to know what she was doing, very frustrating. Bad experience. Probably will not bother to visit again.

I visited today on my own at 11.30am for a drink and a bite. Before I sat down, I was asked by an older woman if I was meeting someone as lunchtime was going to be busy. I had planned to eat but made do with a pot of tea. I felt embarrassed and unwelcome. I am on crutches with surgical stockings having just had a hip op and maybe did not fit the image. Who knows? Anyway, I stayed until 12.30pm expecting to see hoards of diners but there were less than when I went in. Plenty of spare tables. I wonder why?The serving staff are lovely and the service is good. The place is delightful but I will not be returning.

Four of us visited this coffee shop in the busy town of Great Dunmow. My wife and I had the Farmhouse Platter which consisted of Scotch Egg, Pork Pie, Sausage Roll, and Priory Hall Farm Ham with chutney and piccalilli, we added the crusty bread to our order too. I have to say each and every morsel of this platter was delicious. I believe all the fare, aside from the ham, was produced in house, and it showed, thank you Zoe.

Tired, hungry and about to get a flight arriving at our destination at midnight, we happened upon this wonderful place in time for a light snack or lunch. faced with the prospect of airline 'food' , we were prepared for anything half-decent. Never expected such a treat. Restful, modern and tasteful decor with superb food. The artichoke quiche was a revelation. Beautiful light crispy pastry filled with delicious subtle vegetables, this was in a different league from the heavy tasteless specimens of quiche usually found. Excellent teas and coffees; friendly and efficient service - a perfect (and very rare) example of the perfect restful start to a journey. So refreshing to find such quality so near an airport. Though if I lived nearer, it is a place I would lunch at regularly and be proud to take even fussy friends to eat. Well done Zoe's!

Meet up for a early lunch time business chat and walking along Dunmow high street and we go into Zoe's. Nice and clean upon entrance with a small handful of people at tables. Order our hot drinks, which were automatically believed to be take-away. Once we clear up that we actually want a table and not to bother with changing cups; things settle into a nice hot drinks tempo. I order a sausage roll (mainly because it is so freakishly big!!) and I'm excited to sink my teeth into it. The hot drink I had was a rather normal black coffee; which was nice and didn't have any form of "bitty" residue at the bottom of the cup. The sausage roll (plus additional garnish) arrived and I stopped paying attention to the conversation I was in as it was delicious. The beetroot coleslaw was a fantastic side to go with the extraordinarily meaty sausage roll. Perfect eating temperature so I didn't burn the roof of my mouth to shards. Lovely atmosphere and a perfect way to have an hour fly past.

Stopped for lunch in this nice looking little place in the high street. First impressions....clean and very smart. Wandered in and was told to take a seat. Handed menu's but to be honest we didn't order because the choice was quite limited and just didn't really appeal. Prices seemed really high too.....five pence short of five pounds for a bacon sandwich!! Ordered just two coffee's which I have to say were rather nice but very small! For me though the one reason that I would not return to this establishment......the staff!! Not particularly friendly and welcoming. Sorry but it has to be said......poor service and being made to feel uncomfortable would not entice me to spend my money there again in the future. Bad day at the office maybe? Not so sure looking at previous reviews .

Lovely cafe in the heart of great dunmow, with welcoming staff and a great menu. Zoe's has a great feel to it and is a great place to stop for lunch or a coffee. Sandwiches looked delicious and the cakes on offer were fantastic and all at a reasonable price. Although it was late afternoon on a bank holiday weekend and super busy, the staff at Zoe's and Zoe herself were extremely friendly and accommodating. It was great to see the owner out on the floor which is so rare these days, interacting with customers. Would definitely return and recommend.

The service is quite slow. The place is very clean. The food is good but overpriced and the coffee is too small! Five pound for a bacon sarnie seems a lot to me - but the food was good just if you charge premium then increase portion sizes especially drinks - staff were excellent

Very quaint little cafe that serves fresh produce such as sandwiches and coleslaw, homemade sausage rolls and pork pies. Also do a range of cheeses and tea and coffee. All finished off with a selection of cakes !I have always found it nice and pleasant in this cafe. There is also numerous cheeses and sauces you can take away with you from the little delicatessen area of the cafe,

We had several hours before our plane departed so decided to hang out in a town near the airport instead of at the airport. We stopped here & had vegetable soup, tea, scones with jam/butter/clotted cream, & coffee. Everything was fine. Atmosphere was cozy. The dishes had big polka dots.

What a lovely find. We wanted somewhere near Duxford as a last minute getaway for a night. Found The Red Cow on Google maps and booked it not expecting very much. Once we arrived, the man who checked us in automatically upgraded us to a better room just because it was empty. We were shown to our room by a very helpful lady who explained the shower controls (they are not where you would expect them to be!) and asked if the room was the right temperature. The room was immaculate and very cosy and warm particularly as it was bitterly cold outside. We quickly made our way back to the main bar with its open fire and pre ordered breakfast for the next morning. The bar became very busy in the evening which was lovely to see. Dogs were allowed which was nice. We had booked a table for dinner and the small restaurant area was busy We ordered the mushrooms and chicken wings for starters and teriyaki chicken noodles for the main course, all of which were lovely and plentiful. We headed back to our room and had a lovely night's sleep in a very comparable bed. The breakfast the next morning was cooked perfectly and the welcome was very sincere when we walked in. I would not hesitate to recommend this little gem and will definitely return.

We had a mid-week lunch at The Dog & Duck as a walking group of 13 people. This is a proper village pub, not a gastro pub. The menu is typical pub fare, done well. Examples include fish and chips, sausages and mash, or lasagne. The quality of the food was excellent and everybody enjoyed their lunches. Prices were reasonable and portions generous. They also do a very reasonably priced seniors menu. A few of the group had deserts and, apparently, the home-made deserts are not to be missed! The service was friendly and efficient. Several of our group remarked how good the pub was. We'll definitely visit again!
