We enjoyed a coffee and scone at a window table. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The sultana scone was freshly baked and generous in size. Pleased we chose this excellent venue.

Every school holiday I take 3 of my grandchildren to Matlock for a day out. We always go to Zinc for lunch for 3 reasons, the lovely food especially their jacket potatoes, the cosey ambiance and the staff who really are very friendly great with the kids and make our visits special. The scones are amazing and I always get a couple to take home. Try Zinc when you visit wonderful Matlock its a real treat

Popped in here for a lunch at 2pm on a weekday. Ordered Pea and Mint soup, expecting it to be a light, bright summery soup. It looked and tasty exactly like thinned-down mushy peas and mint sauce. It was that odd dull browny green. Ok, perhaps my expectations were too high! But it tasted awful - bitter and vinegary - so much so that the roll & butter were the best thing. We sat in easy view of the waitress and the lady on the till who watched whilst the soup was prodded at and dipped into. She could see that we were not happy. No one came to clear our plates, nor to ask if everything was ok. Many menu items had already been sold out we were told, and I didn’t fancy/couldn’t eat any of the remaining options. We were going to stay for cake and coffee, but dare not risk it. It’s a shame as it’s a lovely ambience and a super elegant and airy room. We were scouting it out for a large family get together, so glad we tried it before we arranged anything. Perhaps because you pay for food when you order, they don’t care if you enjoy your meal - they’ve already taken your money. This cafe could be improved upon tremendously. I realise that if we only wanted a coffee and cake, we may have had a totally different experience.

Visit on a regular basis usually market day which is Wednesday. Have cappuccinos and either brown toast and honey, crumpets or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on brown toast. The food is of a consistently high standard and the service is excellent. Highly recommended. .

In terms of the atmosphere and food quality I want to give this place 5 stars but they let themselves down with the drinks service. The cafe was busy but there was only one person working on hot drinks. He was having to both prepare hot drinks and take them to the tables. As a result he was well behind. We ordered food and tea for two. The food service was pretty quick but our teas did not arrive until we had almost finished eating. This is very disappointing. The person on hot drinks needs help.

Zinc is abit different in that there is a craft type shop situated in the cafe. The drinks were not huge but they were very nice and served good and hot. The scone was OK if lacking slightly in currents but that can happen in baking. Now I saw some of the other tables food and it looked great. There is a garden area at the back if you want to sit outside and a couple of pavement tables at the front. The access is flat. Service was polite and prompt. I would go again and try one of the other menu items that looked so good.

On arrival the lady kindly put our tables together as we were a large party. The sandwiches took a long time arrive but we’re nicely presented and fresh ingredients. Presented very nicely. HOWEVER, one of the meals was a Brie, bacon and onion chutney ciabatta, we found a piece of plastic in the meal, we told the lady who took the meal away. We were then confronted with a disgruntled kitchen staff member who quoted “ it wasn’t plastic , it was onion skin out of the chutney “ , she was rude, bombastic and clearly not a happy lady. It was not onion skin as it we could rip or tear this so called onion skin. They replaced the meal with a new dish without the onion chutney. We didn’t make a scene due to family visiting us and did pay full price.... however... unfortunately we will NEVER enter the premises again. I would recommend your staff have a days training in customer service as they clearly need it.

We have been several times to Zinc and my last review sang the praises of the cheese scone with smoked salmon. However, at our subsequent visit, I chose this again, but unfortunately it wasn't as good. The scone was the same, but there was such a small piece of smoked salmon, it barely covered one side of the scone and wasn't worth the money. The staff really do need to be consistent with portions and this last visit may be the last. Another thing we noticed was that we have walked into the cafe just after 12 o'clock and most of the tables were reserved, which can be quite annoying.

Never visited before to the coffee shop side ( have been in to the gift shop). Lovely to see it was dog friendly. There was a good selection on the menu but decided on coffee and cake. Staff where friendly and drinks served promptly. A little wait on the cakes which we where a little disappointed with. The mars bar cheesecake didn’t have much flavour ( if it hadn’t said mars bar on the label we would have thought it was vanilla and chocolate) and the mint chocolate cake the bottom sponge was on the dry side compared to the top sponge which was lovely and moist. There was a lovely courtyard with seating but we sat inside as it just started to rain. It was nice to see they hadn’t crammed tables in like some coffee shops so there was room to move around.

We visited Zinc for Jacket Potatoes one lunchtime. The decor was nice and there looked to be a nice outdoor area at the back. As it is a gift shop too there was quite a large queue of people trying to buy gifts and order food so there was a bit of a wait. Despite only being 1pm they had run out of potatoes so I had a caesar salad. This was ok but seemed small for the price compared to the cafe over the roundabout. Customer service was good - friendly and food/drinks were served promptly.

Sadly it would seem that not all the staff were aware that they had "ran out". Unfortunately there was nothing else savoury that we fancied, so we had to go elsewhere. A pity, as rhe place was very clean and attractive. We couldn't quite fathom why they had "ran out" of potatoes as surely there would have been supplies in for the following day.....

I visited these tearooms with my daughters on Friday 24th May. I have been to other tea shops in Bakewell, but Toscas is by far the best. We had afternoon tea for three of us, we sat outside in the court yard. The afternoon tea arrived and there was lots of lovely cake and sandwiches, beautifully presented, and our host friendly and gave us a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, very civilised, we will defiantly be visiting again. In fact we will have a day out to bakewell just to visit Toscas .

I was really hoping for the wholesome, home cooked food that the price tag promised. The bean casserole tasted like a tin of baked beans with a whole load of dried sage stirred in. The salad could have been bought in a bag at Asda. I won't be going back.
