Amazing! This place has not changed for 20 years. Now sometimes that's a good thing, but in this case it's just lazy. It's the same old school establishment where the tables are so close together that you can read the washing instructions on your neighbour's clothing labels and can hear every salacious syllable of every word spoken (or whispered); where the toilets are still sporting that 1990s refurb; where the "traditional" breadsticks have been grabbed from a job lot stashed in the store room several decades ago; and where the menu has evolved at glacial pace (pre-global warming). I've been more inspired watching my kids make food with play dough. The Carpaccio di Pesce for £18 was served like a packet of bresaola from Sainbury's; each circular piece carved perfectly by a machine in some factory. The charcoal grilled sea bream served with a mint sauce for £25 resembled a pair of Asda packaged fillets delivered toute seule on a white plate with what tasted and looked like Colmans mint sauce in a mini-ramekin on the side. There is so much quality in London these days, food that lifts the spirits and encourages hyperbole and all for the same price or less and without the enforced eavesdropping. This restaurant must be on its last legs, what with its cuisine and ambience as lethargic as the patrons that must surely limp from a radius of no more than 100m. The only positive is the service which is both attentive and charming, although woe betide you if you hang around too long after 9.30pm on a Wednesday evening... the feeling of having over-stayed one's welcome creeps up pretty quick.

We went for dinner at 6:30 on a Tuesday evening. The food was decent, but the service was rushed. Two courses, followed by tea, and we were walking out of the door 75 minutes after arriving. Given that the food was cooked to order, the speed with which it arrived, especially given that the restaurant was quite busy, was quite remarkable. They could not have tried much harder to get us fed and out of the restaurant. If the rush we experienced was typical, perhaps they should offer indigestion tablets with the bill.

Don't be fooled by any recommendation. Look, it's difficult to do it wrong in an Italian restaurant, because at Ziani they nail it: champions of disaster. The level of antipathy of the waiters borders on rudeness, serving poorly and with absolute reluctance. Going to eat at an Italian restaurant is a happy plan and has everything in its favor from the start because pasta is a socially accepted and applauded anxiolytic; Well, not even like that. What a drama. Don't go, London is full of wonderful restaurants and it's a shame to waste a meal in such a sorry place. I hope they close soon, very soon...I hope. Don't be fooled by any recommendations. It's hard to go wrong in an Italian restaurant, but at Ziani, they excel at it: champions of disaster. The level of rudeness from the staff borders on outright hostility, providing poor service with absolute apathy. Going to eat at an Italian restaurant is usually a joyful plan, with everything in its favor because pasta is a socially accepted and applauded social anxiety; but not here. What a drama. We were made to feel from the moment we got there (have you chosen yet...after 2 minutes) that they could not wait to get us out to get another table in. One course, followed another with hardly a breather. We were done in just over an hour. There are better places to go for £70 a head.

Lunch after a talk at nearby National Army Museum. Ziani is cosy with a neighbourhood feel, the diners a mix of business people, Chelsea grandes dames, and casual visitors such as ourselves. Dishes are Italian classics well executed; our osso buco (with risotto milanese but without gremolata) and calves' liver were very good. There is only house wine by the glass and prices start around £30; for £44 a 2017 dolcetto d'alba was perfect and good value. Prices in general are fair considering the locality. Service is attentive if at times over-eager.

I would classify this as the typical buzzy and chaotic Italian restaurant but priced up because it’s in Chelsea. If you’re going, go in a larger group with good mates, so you can laugh it all off and you won’t be upset to be paying £90 a head for very little booze and some microwaved food. Ziani’s is an Italian classic, for how Italian food should best be enjoyed in London. The waiters are delightful and knowledgeable, and more importantly extremely accommodating. If you want something that comes cold warmed up? Say less. The food is delicious and true to proper Italian traditional way with some home comforts sprinkled in. Remember - this is rustic and easy, no fuss no muss. Don’t expect a drinks list or an overly large menu, and take advice from the waiters.

We’ve all got a pretty decent Italian restaurant in our local areas and this, for Chelsea, is just that: obviously popular with its regulars and producing decent food with vibrant Italian flair and smiling, welcoming service. However, if you do indeed have a decent Italian near you, I’m not sure Ziani’s is so much better that it warrants a special outing. For sure the food is great (Chelsea prices of course) but it’s just not special enough to make it a destination place. Plus it’s very cramped inside; they really squeeze the tables in. Try and avoid the banquette seating round the edges, your friend sitting opposite will tower above you and it’s not particularly comfortable. Having said that we had a lovely evening - as ever the staff really make the difference at these places - I’m just not sure I’d make the effort to travel here specifically.

We booked a table to celebrate our friend's engagement. What followed was an extremely disappointing experience. Upon arriving we were told in an abrupt fashion by the maitre'd they needed the table back for 8.30. This wasn't communicated when we made the reservation so was a surprise, especially given the occasion. Before we had even sat down we were being asked what we wanted to drink and it was clear they wanted to hurry us through. The waiter hung around our table pressuring us to order. Things became even worse when the food arrived. Soggy, saltly starters including fried mozzarella and a pathetic portion of scallops which was very overpriced. Main courses were bordering on inedible. An Italian restaurant that can't even cook decent pasta is a cause for concern. After finishing our mains, desert menus were instantly thrust in front of us. When we asked for a couple of minutes we were once again told how busy they were and that we needed to decide promptly. Creme caramel arrived and tasted more like an omlet. After paying the overpriced bill we couldn't wait to leave. A horrible experience unfortunately. One hopefully soon to be forgotten.

I informed the waiter at the start of the meal that I am vegetarian. The starter and main courses were quite enjoyable. When it came to dessert, however, they served me an apple tart with a gelatine glaze on top. After informing the waiter that I couldn't eat it, due to the fact it had gelatine on it, he apologised and took it off the bill. The manager came over and tried to explain to me that it was in fact creme patisserie, not gelatine. I was astounded, as I had never seen a cream patisserie look so gelatinous in my life. At the end of the meal, on my way out, they apologised again and one waiter said 'you should start eating proper food though'. Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect. It is the 21st Century and you are going to encounter people who have different dietary needs. As someone who works in hospitality, I would never dream of saying something so insulting to a customer. Ziani's has decent food, but they really need to re-evaluate their service standards.

Nicholas was an amazing server! So welcoming and friendly. Even being in the restaurant, I can see how friendly and welcoming he is with everybody, not just myself. The food was also amazing and I enjoyed it very much! Grazie Nicholas!

I've been in this restaurant to celebrate my graduation and I loved it. The staff is super friendly and kind. The food is delicious. I've enjoyed the atmosphere as a family. I highly recommend it.
